Can a Amd Duron handle windows xp?

I have an old comp lying around and was wondering whether I should reinstall windows me on it or try to install win xp. I don't have the original me disk though, so that's why I was wondering if xp would run on it. It would only be used for simple tasks like web browsing and so on. Nothing too rough for it, would it be able to handle it, or would it be too slow?

shouldn't be a problem.. as long as you have at least 128 mb ram.. and you'll be able to listen to music and see movies with a decent video card (at least 32 Mb)..

might even be able to play a few games - older games - if you're not particularly charmed of high resolutions and graphic details..

And you can browse the net (with minimum details, of course!) using just a 486 dx4 100MHz.. 16 MB ram.. i did.. :p

O yea 1.3 ghz is just fine to run xp have 128 mb of ram or better 256.

As a matter of fact, I was running XP on an AMD Duron 850 for quite some time. It works well..

Not going to be an issue. When WindowsXP came out a 1.3 Duron would be considered pretty darn fast.

I personally would tweak the hell out of it though. Disable all unneeded services. Maybe use nLite to remove unneeded components. But I do that on all XP installations regardless of CPU.

He didn't ask for requirements. As many know just because you meet requirements doesn't mean something runs very smooth. People like you are no help and just annoy me. This forum would be dead if everybody just went straight to google. :wacko:

But anyways, yes duron 1.3ghz will run XP just fine.

Good boy! Why not 3.11 for Workgroups? or MS-DOS 3.2? (i actually have it on a disk, somewhere!) or maybe Win 98 se Chinese? (i have that too! plus win xp pro German!)

yeah windows xp will run fine on a 1.3ghz, providing you have a decent amount of ram (128 or more). i've been running windoes werver 2003 on a 700mhz duron wil 512mb ram and it runs fine.

The duron's are good solid chips, far superior to the Celerons.

A duron can easily run Windows XP.

There were Duron 1.3's with 128MB RAM running Windows XP at my old college - ran very quick considering that they are budget chips!

My second system has an AMD Duron 900MHz and 128MB SDRAM 133MHz with a Geforce FX5600 128MB.

Windows XP Pro is performing perfectly fine.

never seen XP running happily on 128mb RAM myself...i'd always get at least 384mb on any machine i was planning to put it on...

as for the duron...no problems.

XP runs on P3 500's if you are willing to wait a little during the install :D

I ran Whistler on a AMD K6, you won't have any trouble.
