Thanks for all the great tips guys; that is so much better. Only one issue though:

I edited the InstantMessageWindow.Strings and now I get:

[MSNM Icon] IMWarning

at the top of every window... Any idea what I have done?

Did you by any chance remove all the default text? I think you always have to leave some text there.

May have... Anyone able to PM me the full contents of the file as it should be when edited (obviously a "known working copy")?

Just download Messenger 5 again and extract it from that copy.

Hi, I'm making a Family Guy styled messenger thanks to all the tips here, but has anyone been able to locate/extract the sound files?

The sound files are located in the Microsoft Messenger.rsrc file. I'm afraid you can only change those with a hex editor. Not sure in what format they need to be either. :(

sorry, bumping an old thread..

how do I change the background image in the contact window? - the one with the faded msn logo?

I looked in the resources folder for the image so I could get the right size etc to make a fresh one but couldn't find anything.

anyone?

Go to Microsoft Messenger.app/Contents/Resources > Open Microsoft Messenger.rsrc with ThemePark > In the left pane select "PICT" > Navigate to ID 3905 > Replace it with any image sized 160x138 pixels.

Haven't tried replacing it but I think that's the image you're looking for.

Sorry if this sounds like a thread revival, but I do have a question concerning MS Messenger modding:

Where can I get the icon and sound resources for iChat? It's just that I removed it with the fact that MSN is the only thing I use for instant messaging, so it's pointless to have. However, I'd like to make the MSN interface look as similar to iChat as possible.
