New information on iRiver U10

(I found this info at CDPkorea.com)

New pictures of U10 has been released, and I must say I'm even more tempted to get my hands on this pretty little thing!

The picture reveals that the screen supports both horizontal and vertical mode, and I expect this feature to be particularly helpful when viewing picture with this.

Way to go iRiver!

I'm considering buying this player, but only 1GB? For the price that iIrver is offering the U10 i get a Creative Zen Micro with at least 4 GB.

The thing is that they are offering a really nice dock with built-in speaker and remote control. But what is to control with only 1Gb of your precius MP3 Collection at hand...

With the docking station the U10 is the most sexy Alarm Clock i've seen though. Sounds crazy but thats one of the main reasons i am still considering this player

I remember hearing they're making an 8gb version.

I'm definitely getting the 1Gb. Just because it looks so cool.

Not because I need an mp3 player (I have a sony hd3).

I just hope this is crackable, so it could be used as an external monitor for my PC. I could make it play visualizations or something. Room decoration, you know?

Looks sweet. My only concern is battery life with such a large color screen.

Actually, the battery life of U10 is much better than ordinary PMP; I think it has lot to do with the fact that flash drive is in it instead of hard drive.

It's supposed to be able to play MP3 for 20 hours, and I'm guessing the video performance is still being fine-tuned.

And I agree with EvErSoR, this will be the coolest alarm clock ever!

do you really need more than 1GB? I got a 512MB SD card in my PDA with MP3s and other stuff and stull only using like 350MB. 1GB should be plenty. You just need to fill it with the amount of media to last as long as the battery.

But this thing looks sweet tho! I'm thinking even tho i got my PDA with MP3s i'll prolly wanna get this thing!

IRiver Unveils Flashy MP3 Players

New models include a touch-screen operated model, and a flash-based version of the H10.

Martyn Williams, IDG News Service

Monday, June 20, 2005

Reigncom, the company behind IRiver-brand digital music players, has shown four new flash-memory based music players ahead of this week's SEK exhibition in Seoul.

Among them is an addition to its H10 product line and the U10, a multimedia player which is operated through a touchscreen display panel.

The U10 marks a design step from other IRiver players in that it's entirely operated via a pressure-sensitive front panel.. It has a 2.2-inch QVGA (320 pixel by 240 pixel) landscape-oriented screen that takes up the majority of the front of the player. Menu choices are positioned in the middle of each side of the display so they are within reach of the user's thumbs while the player is held. The U10 plays MP3, Windows Media Audio, ASF and Ogg Vorbis format audio files and MPEG4 video files.

Other features include an FM radio, voice recording, and photo album. Two versions will be available: a 512MB version will cost $283 and a 1GB version will cost $335. A launch schedule has yet to be disclosed for the player.

    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
