ShaneSparky_YYZ
I got this in my e-mail and figured what the heck, post it and see what people will say and think. I think we all should do it.. lol ;) ---------------------------------------- It has been caculated that if everyone in the United States and Canada did not purchase a drop of gasoline for one day and all at the same time, the oil companies would choke on their stockpiles. At the same time it would hit the entire industry with a net loss of over 4.6 billion dollars which affects the bottom lines of the oil companies. Therefore September 1st 2005 has been formally declared "Stick it up their behind" day and the people of these two nations should not buy a single drop of gasoline that day. So stock up the day before! The only way this can be done is if you forward this e-mail to as many people as you can and as quickly as you can get the word out. Waiting on the government to step in and control the prices is not going to happen. What happened to the reduction and control in prices that the arab nations promised two weeks ago? Remember one thing, not only is the price of gasoline goin up but at the same time airlines are forced to raise their prices, trucking companies are forced to raise their prices which effects prices on everything that is shipped. Things like food, clothing, building materials, medical supplies etc. Who pays in the end? We do! We can make a difference. If they don't get the message after one day, we will do it again and again each month! So do your part and spread the word. Forward this e-mail to everyone you know. Mark your calenders and make September 1st a day that the citizens of the United States and Canada say "Enough Is Enough" Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/363774-september-1st-dont-buy-gas-day/ Share on other sites
XgD
Good idea (not): Rinse the companies of $4.6 billion. sciguy007
when are people going to realize that these little 1 day boycotts DO NOTHING! people will just go out and fill up the day before or after. its not like the email says "dont drive anywhere." if people are still driving, then they are still burning gas that they will fill up sooner or later. airplanes will still be using gas, industries will still be burning oil, and most of the world will still be driving and filling up. ShaneSparky_YYZ
Like I said, I found it funny and figured i'd post it. Its interesting to see what people will say. I agree and don't agree with it but meh. I could fill up the day before and not buy gas the next day. And wait til the next. Recently gas prices here have been changing every 6 hours here, from 0.90/L to 1.05/L  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/363774-september-1st-dont-buy-gas-day/#findComment-586432381 Share on other sites
JodyWatts
so we hold out ... and not buy gas. In the long run, who do you think is going to win??? gam_EZ
Do you really think that if someone is low on gas they won't buy it becuase its 'dont buy gas day'? Also...the gas companies would make that money up the next day....day to day flucuation will not affect the overall revenue for such a demanded, and highly inelastic product. episode
Same as the last time idiots tried to do this, it makes no sense. So you don't buy it the 1st. Well, then you'll have to buy it on the 2nd. Boycotts have to be long to be successful. Years, decades. Not a single day. Draconian Guppy
I've seen this email going around the inet for quite some time, way back from january I think, first it read "new year and no gas day" or something, people aren't just going to stop getting gas, there's our side of the consumers who actually get owned by the gas prices and there's people who just don't care how much they pay as long it fills their tank.. cyclingplatypus
In theory a great idea but I doubt we'll ever see it unless the governments of the world get together and close down the stations for a day (or one day a week)...but I don't think that'll ever happen either. Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 26, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 26, 2005 These things don't work. People either get gas on August 30th or September 2nd. The weekly sales of the gas companies are unaffected. JayV
The only real way for something like this to work is to boycott all gas stations execpt one for a long period of time. Sure there will be long line ups at that gas station but eventually the others will have to do something to bring customers back. nmuibm04
If you want to do anything to hurt the oil companies, you all should pick ONE gas station, and use them EXCLUSIVELY. The US Department of Energy (too lazy to find the link, google it ;)) has a good listing of what percentage of foreign oil is imported by the major gas companies. If you want to hurt the arabs, fuel up at a different station... Simple as that people. And you all are right, these "Don't Buy Gas on xxx" are just bunk. A similar thing would be "I don't like Kelloggs Corn Flakes, but I like corn flakes, so I just won't buy Kelloggs for one day." Yeah, that one day really put a dent into Kelloggs sales. Just switch to a different brand. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/363774-september-1st-dont-buy-gas-day/#findComment-586432792 Share on other sites

Joseph Zollo
Gas in my town was pretty cheap today, normally it's 2.50ish but some kids pulled a prank on our local BP and changed the price to 2.05! BP decided to honor the price for most of the. I filled up two gas cans! I really am still hoping that the government will step in and help reduce the costs, because these prices are only going to go up up and away. I still say bring on the Hydrogen cars!!!
