Hiphop, Rap has destroyed Music

Recommended Posts

/Rant

Why the hell do people like this crap. this isnt even music. This is one of the reasons channels like MTV and VH1 have become like crap. There is no concept of Music in this genre, only sex, guns and voilence, thats it. Sure im into rock and alternative rock but the definition of music is demolished with this kind of crap. Why the hell do people listen to this and make it go to top of the charts. All the music of this genre has one damn theme. Girls, guns, Girls, guns, girls, guns. Thats all

I agree with you, as I do not like rap at all either. I have found an old article that a friend of mine put up on his website (which is now long gone), and I have posted it on another friend's forum for everyone to see again. If you would like to read my friend's article "Is Rap Music?", you can view it here: http://drakeshangout.com/index.php?showtopic=1321

I'm going to have to agree with this statment, though I find it difficult to completely agree.

Reason: I grew up and hip-hop was my choice in music for years. But I found myself listening to the music and production of it, not the lyrics. From there I progressed to faster and faster rap, needing that harder bassline, more uptempo feel. And now you have the Trance DJ, who has evolved from Hip-hop into dance. Go figure ;)

i don't really like rap but you're looking at it the wrong way, the genre isn't to blame for sucking but mtv and the music producers or record companies are. there is bad music in all musical genres including rock that really sucks.

there is good rap and there is excellent rock music, you just don't see those two on mtv or radio these days.

This is the typical attitude and generalizations i've come to expect from many of the members around here. You obviously know only what you see on MTV, which is a very small part of what is available out there. Grow up, and do some actual thinking and research before you hit the post button. Your comments are as ridiculous and brainwashed as if I had said that all metal music was about worshipping satan and was turning children into zombies so they would commit suicide. Or that all country music was about killing my wife and being sad because my dog died.

Give me 30 minutes and a computer loaded with Fruity Loops, A Keyboard and a vocoder and I can emulate and or create an original rap crap song. It is not music it is crap. It is rushed into creation. The people making this music don't care about moving lyrics, or making great music they care about taking your music and nothing more. SO stop handing it over to them. Support real music.

And the same can be said for power chord playing, no talent, girl pant wearing punk rock.

Lets hear something original, something funky, something groovy, something acoustic, something different. PLEASE>>>

This reminds me of when Tom Cruise opened his mouth about psychology when he knew little to nothing of the subject. You clearly have no knowledge of the culture at all. Hip-Hop goes as far back as slavery, and well before The Beatles and don't always revolve around guns and violence. I could go on for many paragraphs about your ignorance, but it is a waste of my time.

I had to edit this and laugh at you for saying Coldplay was a great band. They are a below average group, with mediocre singer, using the same drum pattern and tempo for every song. Take your metrosexual music and opinion elsewhere please...

Just for the record I love all genres of music and find the 90/00 generation to be the least inspiring and talent free of all.

Some actual thought to their post! Thank you Quantum! :)

Whilst i agree with you in as far as theres been a turning towards sexy woman, etc in video clips, you'd also have to have noticed theres been a turn towards that in movies, tv and other mediums. Magazines etc have always pushed the idea of the perfect woman, now it's just the perfect sexy woman.

Plus, im sure the older people in the 50s had the same feelings when rock music was taking over. It was trash, evil and turned kids wild. Unfortunantly, once a genre of music comes out it's tough to make it disappear. I personally dont like the suedo rock/punk stuff brought out by banks like sum 41 and simple plan. They all sound they same to me. But. i'll live with them, because you can enjoy all sorts of music. You dont just have to listen to the top 40 :p

Rap is music, it just depends on what you listen to. Lot's of new stuff today is total crap and I agree with you in that sense, but there is some really good, well-produced, and thoughtful rap out there.

As a matter of fact, your statement is incredibly ignorant. Listen to Nas. Listen to Outkast. Listen to Kanye West. Listen to older Jay-Z stuff, and the old school Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, KRS-One. Listen to the alternative such as The Perceptionists or Atmosphere. Listen to Dr. Dre for the most insanely catchy beats, and listen to Big & Pac for the emotionally intense and complex lyrics.

Rap is a lot more than just sex, money, and violence, just turn off MTV.

why would you go around saying that about hip hop. that is your opinion. since we are staing our opinions i feel that EMO (wich is for bitches) and mtv have destroyed music and that your "charts" are horribley flawed. every person on the charts (almost) is a bread product that has come out of some stinky record execs anus!! ...i listen to nothing but the dopest hip hop that would make your jaw drop (it had flow hehehe) and if you would like to retract your statement or if anyone who reads theis would like to learn more about this type of music just pm me and i'll hook you up ;)

nothing but underground baby ;)!!!!

No you can't. Good rap producers can easily make $50,000 a song. If you could make that kind of money then you'd be doing it instead of typing crap onto a message board. Discussions on rap always brings out the little trolls who know nothing of rap beyond what they see on tv, then they call it crap like that's never been heard of before, and try to act knowledgeable on the subject. MTV and the radio plays all kinds of crappy music in any category. That's like me saying all rock sucks because of the crap MTV puts on when there is way more out there than just that.

Edited by mufdvr3669
real music is u2, coldplay, even other alternate and hard rock and some pop music is original music like it was in the 90's but hip hop is all about bikini clad women shaking thier booty

Most music today that is mainstream is quite unorginal. The rap and hip hop stuff that you hear on the radio is like you say but there is more to the scene then just that. Gorillaz are hip hop artists and they are not all about sex drugs and violence

I will give you the advice of turning off the radio and throwing your tv out the window if it has MTV on it.

What really is killing music is the repeatative radio forcing the "popular music" down our throats.

Oh and by the way I listen to jsut about everything that sounds good too me

only rap celebrities are daily shot, have gang members, and shoot each other dead. Sure the older generation thought it would make kids wild when Rock first came out, but no one was becoming Rock gang members and shooting each other. On the other hand every Hip Hop artist has had his day in court concerning voilence and that includes 50 Cents, P Diddy, Jay Z and a host of other TOP hip hop , rap artists.

    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
