Hiphop, Rap has destroyed Music

Recommended Posts

Sad but true.

All the rap on TV has loads of women in all the time and stuff.

The other rap doesn't seem to make it to TV

Amazing song by Metallica ;)

But i agree with the people here, Hip Hop and Rap is crap, i don't see how it can be music, young people think its cool to run around with guns, cause violence, its become more of a trademark among Yobs.

Just my opinion of it.

the chart topping stuff, yes.

If you look around and listen out for music you like you will actually find quite a fair amount that rap about the exact opposites and have the same opinion on commercial hip hop as you do.

/Rant

Why the hell do people like this crap. this isnt even music. This is one of the reasons channels like MTV and VH1 have become like crap. There is no concept of Music in this genre, only sex, guns and voilence, thats it. Sure im into rock and alternative rock but the definition of music is demolished with this kind of crap. Why the hell do people listen to this and make it go to top of the charts. All the music of this genre has one damn theme. Girls, guns, Girls, guns, girls, guns. Thats all

End Rant/

Agreed.

only rap celebrities are daily shot, have gang members, and shoot each other dead. Sure the older generation thought it would make kids wild when Rock first came out, but no one was becoming Rock gang members and shooting each other. On the other hand every Hip Hop artist has had his day in court concerning voilence and that includes 50 Cents, P Diddy, Jay Z and a host of other TOP hip hop , rap artists.

Point being??? A lot of rock stars are heroined out, coked out druggies who ###### themselves around to all kinds of women. Just cause you like a certain kind of music doesn't mean you mindlessly follow everything they say and do.

Wow. OK, I am not a rap/hip-hop "fan" at all. Come from a rock/metal background. So you all know my influences.

I so 100% totally disagree. Saying Rap has killed music is just fricking lame. Not all rap is about the things you mentioned, and you show the fact that you don't know what you're talking about by making such a sweeping statement. It's the same as saying all metal is about murdering virgins.

There are some amazing rap songs, some middle of the road ones, and some downright lame ones. Artists who make blatant songs about killing and gins and such, are about as rap as I am, just using cliche'd techniques to jump on the bandwagon.

Artists such as Jay-Z, Tupac, Dre are pioneers not only of rap, but of music as a whole.

And also, may I please point out that back in the 40s/50s people were saying the exact same things about Rock N Roll.

You may dislike rap, but don't be so closed minded to make such sweeping and unfounded generalisations.

Eventually rap/hip-hop will become just another part of everyday music, as rock has become. Heck, I personally think we reached that stage years ago.

Why not be a sport and provide 10 different examples then?

yes all celebrities do drugs but no celebrity should potray themselves holding guns in thier music photos or videos.

we have to remember that MTV is owned by a gay black man and a lesbian.. That mostly explains all the queers and rappers and other disgusting **** on that channel comes from. I called my cable company and had both MTV and VH1 perminately removed from my service.

Kanye West - Politically charged, innovative, musical, smart rap

Common - One of the best, talks about love, life, and politics

Nas - A living legend. Incredibly smart flo, politically concious

Outkast - Genre defining

Jay-Z - Two words: Reasonable Doubt

A Tribe Called Quest - Very unique and musical

Atmosphere - Unique, smart lyrics

Dr. Dre - Untouchable beats and production

Eminem - One of the best pure rappers

Eric B/Rakim - Innovators of their time

I deliberately picked some more mainstream artists to just prove this to people who may not listen to Hip-Hop.

I think the real point is that because Rock/Metal is getting ignored by people, and that Rap/Dance/Hip-Hop have taken over most of the mainstream when it comes to Top Charts etc.

But like i said, I've noticed that Yobs use Rap/Hip-Hop has a trademark, you like anything different, you get the **** kicked out of you, which has happened to me once. Just because i like metal. ITs f**king stupid, I don't kick the sh*t out of people who like other music, i respect their musical tastes since i don't really have a problem with it. But, Rock/Metal bands are being ignored, because if you see a Metal band like Metallica on Top of the Pops < Thats just an example, don't give me crap about it. You'll never see them on their because people would said "You f**cking Goths".

I'm bloody sick of it.

yes all celebrities do drugs but no celebrity should potray themselves holding guns in thier music photos or videos.

And you like videogames with guns I've noticed in prior posts. Nobody should play videogames with guns, just promotes violence.

Why not be a sport and provide 10 different examples then?

not ten because I can't be bothered, but I'll give you something.

Good artists > Jurassic 5, Ugly Duckling, old De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, 5 Fingers of Funk, Abdominal etc..

And a verse you might like.

Do you kiss your mother with a mouth like that?

Can't you find another way to make people react?

It ain't the way you're supposed to behave when you're grown

Potty mouths stinkin up the microphone

Your vocabulary's germ-ridden, I will call a septic

A fungus among us, spray the disinfective

You talk and spreads it, better get a medic

Or everybody gets it and it's an epidemic

You're like a trash truck, so keep your trap shut

All you really wanna do is make a fast buck

That's why rap sucks, it's too limited

Potty mouths wanna keep hip-hop primitive

I'm not sayin that I never cuss

But profanity shouldn't be a crutch

So now you been caught, shoulda thought when you spoke

Wash the potty mouth out with soap

Oh please...

I'm not the biggest fan of rap/hip hop in general, but to scapegoat this style of music for "what's wrong" with music today is self centered, ignorant and shows a lack of musical/cultural appreciation.

Let's take a look at today's alt rock/metal and a lot of common themes you'll find there:

Depression, suicide, drugs, death, loneliness, etc. You'll also find more positive themes in these genres as well...as you will with various rap/hip hop artists.

Now, quite frankly, I would rather hear a song about a big booty girl over how much life sucks...but that's just me. I personally enjoy music from groups like Tool to Nirvana to The Roots to Coldplay to Portishead to Bob Marley. It's just music man...chill and enjoy it!

This is the typical attitude and generalizations i've come to expect from many of the members around here. You obviously know only what you see on MTV, which is a very small part of what is available out there. Grow up, and do some actual thinking and research before you hit the post button. Your comments are as ridiculous and brainwashed as if I had said that all metal music was about worshipping satan and was turning children into zombies so they would commit suicide. Or that all country music was about killing my wife and being sad because my dog died.

Ok lets see first off where is your research I see no proof for what you are saying here.

I believe that all current day rap truly is crap. I see nothing original about it. And your comments about metal and country music are so retarded I won't even touch them. Show me some good rap and I will drop my argument but the fact is everytime this debate comes up people like you say well you are just looking at the surface of rap music and don't know anything. And guess what when I ask for proof you all whimper to your little wigger holes.

Now I will admit that old school rap was sweet, funky original beats and lyrics free of the word n#$$er and the likes.

No you can't. Good rap producers can easily make $50,000 a song. If you could make that kind of money then you'd be doing it instead of typing crap onto a message board. Discussions on rap always brings out the little trolls who know nothing of rap beyond what they see on tv, then they call it crap like that's never been heard of before, and try to act knowledgeable on the subject. MTV and the radio plays all kinds of crappy music in any category. That's like me saying all rock sucks because of the crap MTV puts on when there is way more out there than just that.

Actually I do know what I am talking about. I am in a band and we use Sonar 4 and Fruity Loops a lot. And ya a rap producer can make a lot of money. But that not what I want to do. And is why I am in school for a job in Endo-dontistry a job that can rake in 3-15 million a year depending on where I live. Agreed however all rock on MTV sucks. I can figure out the guitar on most of that crap in about 10 minutes and emulate the drums in Fruity in less time. It is quite easy to emulate rap almost perfectly through a combination of software programs. And no I am not a little troll. And I am actually quite knowledgeable on the subject it seems however that you may not be.

Most music today that is mainstream is quite unorginal. The rap and hip hop stuff that you hear on the radio is like you say but there is more to the scene then just that. Gorillaz are hip hop artists and they are not all about sex drugs and violence

Mainstream music is quite unoriginal. Cannot blame them though they found a way to grab your money. They take a song that mede them money. Remix it slightly. And boom the next big hit. ****es me off but hey as long as people are going to eat it up it will be there.

I also Agree the gorillaz are a sweet band. So many genres put together it is amazing. Their lateset album is great. They are very original and quess what actually quite clean and not endorsing underage drinking or crap like that.

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
