Hiphop, Rap has destroyed Music

Recommended Posts

So your telling me that Rock is music? Its ok to Inject H and starting yelling to a beat about death and how stupid yourlife is? Rock is depressing music. Id like to see you right 5mins worth of lines that rhym to a beat, go try. Shouldnt be hard if they are just "talking" about sex drugs and violence.

Definition of Music:

The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

Hip Hop and Rap are not music. all they do is promote Voilence and Sex.

benjeeeboy: Nail, On the head!

MTV has destroyed commercial music definately. Pre-releases are guaranteed success with enough MTV airplay, and that's the problem. Nobody get's to discover music if all they know is MTV, they just have it shoved down their throats. Somgs don't age anymore, they just fade. MTV tells it's viewers what to listen to, wear, eat, drink, think...

Now, at the moment, RnB outsells most other genres. Certainly stateside. And MTV UK so wants to be MTV US, they copy everything. At the moment - this is Rap/RnB/Hip-Hop, but int he 90's it was rock. The music isn't the problem, it's the medium that distributes it.

When you listen to MUSIC, its called music when you admire its composition. Sure the older people though Rock destroyed music but Rock was organised. It had a theme of people admiring the way the song was sung, people would admire the lyrics , the way the guitar was played, the way the piano was played, the way the music was composed. in Hip Hop and Rap its a 6th grade rhyming of words into a compressed form of music instruments with no originality, thats not music, thats a HOAX

/Rant

Why the hell do people like this crap. this isnt even music. This is one of the reasons channels like MTV and VH1 have become like crap. There is no concept of Music in this genre, only sex, guns and voilence, thats it. Sure im into rock and alternative rock but the definition of music is demolished with this kind of crap. Why the hell do people listen to this and make it go to top of the charts. All the music of this genre has one damn theme. Girls, guns, Girls, guns, girls, guns. Thats all

End Rant/

See Post #5. I'd like to see your attempt to make music that people will listen to feel or take something away. Granted some hip-hop leaves something to be desired but really you haven't done your homework.

I'm sick of all you ignorant people saying this - constantly! What is the point? What is your problem? I know majority of you are suburban, and I forgive you for that, but this is ridiculous.

Not music? So it doesn't fit YOUR definition of 'music', but to others it is music. Who are you to say what is/isn't music? As long as it has harmony/melody/rhythm, it is defined as 'music'. They are all artists and they have artistic liberty to express themselves as they wish.

Rap/ R&B music isn't all about guns, violence or girls. Rappers rhyme about what they've been through, or what they feel. A lot of them have come from turbulent backgrounds, so this is their way of coping with it.

And R&B? How ignorant can you get? R&B music covers every single emotion/situation. It is one of the most diverse (topic-wise). If you were more open-minded, I'd recommend Craig David's new release to you. Listen to some R&B. Repeated topics could be said for any genre. Metal and Anger? Emo and Heart-breaks? The list goes on...

Now, I'm not Rap fan myself. I listen to Rock music, however I appreciate every single genre of music. It's all art, and I guess it takes a level of class to be more forgiving to art.

church choirs are unified, melodic, harmonized, rthymed and it and church's down south add the hip-hop flavor into the gospel. You are pwnd.

So hip-hop and rap is not putting sounds to a beat to create an evocative composition? If so, it's non-evocative, how can it ruin anything.

If you want to try and act all smart with this whole "definition" thing - at least have the smarts to not contradict yourself!

All rap does is promote violence and sex? So it isn't about beats then (or timbre if you prefer). RnB isn't about Rhythm? There is no melody in hip-hop (and evolution of rap and gospel)?

Jesus, this just gets funnier and funnier! Oh and hey, your avatar: Spiderman. Int he first film, there was a lot of violence and we saw mary jane's erect nipples. Sex + violence?

Amen.

yes voilent movies have voilence, but they have substance, many video games have voilence, like which one? San Andreas, a game influenced by Rap and Hip Hop if you played the game, Vice City was a little but not as much as San Andreas, All hip hop artists promote thier music (with the exception of P Diddy and 1,2 others) through sex and voilence while games which promote thier game through voilence are wrong and so are the movies.

586445648

Ummm, you just posted about Dead or Alive where the whole point is to beat up the other player. What substance does that game have (I personally enjoy fighting games by the way). Your arguements are so flawed it's funny. You hate rap, complain about their violence but yet you like other things with violence yet don't see the harm in that. You complain of someone trolling yet almost every one of your posts in this thread could be seen as trolling against rap. Get over it already, don't like what MTV or the radio plays, change the channel.

Well I am going to take off. But before I head off Yes music has melody and harmony both of which rap has none the lyrics do not melde with the beat and harmony is thrown out the window voices don't work in harmony at all deep fat guy voices with squirly skinny dudes with skinny girls and so on. It doesn't work want some harmony go check out Nash, and Young , or Ray Charles, Simon and Garfunkel. Now that is harmony.

Yah

well the rap - hip hop music see on TV, is not real hip hop or rap....

it's full of ****, bitches, and stupid southern kids....

I ask you guys to listen tor eal hip hop

1. Supastition

2. Immortal Technique

3. Cunninlynguists

4. Jedi Mind Tricks

5. OC

6. Sage Francis

7. all that 90 - mid 90s

and so on

But foreal rap and hip hop is going down the drain

I give up, you're too stubborn to even read what you're typing or what anyone else is trying to say.

Seems the original posters view on the world is what he gets from MTV and his XBOX. This explains the lack of a decent arguement.

Oh and by the way, I remember Cliff Richard making the same exact arguement in the 80's on BBC tv. Chose you role models carefully!

Rap is music, it just depends on what you listen to.  Lot's of new stuff today is total crap and I agree with you in that sense, but there is some really good, well-produced, and thoughtful rap out there.

As a matter of fact, your statement is incredibly ignorant.  Listen to Nas.  Listen to Outkast.  Listen to Kanye West.  Listen to older Jay-Z stuff, and the old school Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, KRS-One.  Listen to the alternative such as The Perceptionists or Atmosphere.  Listen to Dr. Dre for the most insanely catchy beats, and listen to Big & Pac for the emotionally intense and complex lyrics.

Rap is a lot more than just sex, money, and violence, just turn off MTV.

586445457

Let's not forget about 2 Live Crew. Sex, Violence was the theme.

I dont listen to 50-cent of all them wannabe guys. The rap i listen to is like Tupac, Notorious, Mafia 316, Eazy E. Those rapper came from the heart.

Tupac died in 1996, and until now everyony knows him, u think sum1 that wasnt making music would have such an influence?

Everyone likes diffrent things, u shouldnt go around and hate others cause their not like u.

Love wat u Love and get over it

Hahaha, and your saying techno/heavy metal is?

Holding a gun, with chicks, cars and bling in nice clothes is alot better than wearing a half torn shirt, with hair upto your knees, with those friggin pointy rings and bracelets, wow your cool now.

who said im white, im brown, that was a racist statement even though im not white

BURN! End of story.

Ok, that's a hoax. Making sense is good.

All rock promotes is suicide and a lonely life.

See how wrong generalizations are?

The narrow band that we call 'the mainstream' gently sways through genres on a continuous basis. In the early 90s, it was boybands and girlbands (at least in the UK), and over the years that melted into hiphop/rap and some other genres such as trance and disco house got a brief airing towards the late 90s and early 00s. Now it's mostly dominated by hiphop, though a lot of so called 'alternative' rock bands (coldplay etc) are also creeping in.

('Alternative' is a dirty word, just like 'electronica'. These genres do not exist - They are fabrications from within the minds of the media who insist on classifying enormous amounts of music under single words to the extent that everyone has completely different interpretations. Here ends the rant.)

It isn't that music is being destroyed. It's just that the narrow (but admittedly widening) band is in a crap place at the moment. It will move on, eventually. In ten years time, we may well see an enormous revival of electro that lasts for another ten years, dominated by the next generation who will laugh at our generation's taste in everything. In the meantime, there's plenty of great music out there, genres are being created and pushed forward just as ever - It's just a bit harder to find with every other song containing hos and drugs, with the odd crazy frog rendition here and there.

This post is a reflection of opinion rather than fact. If you disagree, so be it, just make sure you carry your Maturity Hat? with you at all times.i>

Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. Windows 11 version 26H2 is now official. Alongside Windows 11's new preview builds released this week, Microsoft confirmed version 26H2, which is coming later this year as an enablement package based on the same platform as versions 24H2 and 25H2. A newly published blog post details what IT admins should do to prepare for the upcoming launch. Next, we have new Windows 11 bugs. Users report that this month's security updates for Windows 11 cause all sorts of issues, including BitLocker bugs, OneDrive issues, black screens of death, and third-party integration in Office apps. Microsoft has not confirmed those yet, but it acknowledged other issues with its operating system. What Microsoft has confirmed is a bug where Recycle Bin delete prompts display internal file names instead of actual ones, and a year-old Windows JScript compatibility bug caused by security-focused engine changes. Moving to more positive news, Microsoft and Adobe are working on improving Windows performance in popular creative apps like Photoshop. Thanks to SPGO optimizations, users can expect up to 20% better performance. Finally, we have a few useful articles that can help you recover your PC or make it perform better. For one, we published a guide detailing what to do if your computer cannot boot after a clean Windows 11 install. There are two important steps you can try to get your system back to working in no time. Additionally, there is a more detailed guide on various CPU performance modes that could notably improve performance. Windows Insider Program Here is what Microsoft released for Windows Insiders this week: Builds Canary Channel Builds 28120.2315 and 29613.1000 These two builds include a new built-in audio driver, improvements to audio Settings, and more. Updates are available This section covers software, firmware, and other notable updates (released and coming soon) delivering new features, security fixes, improvements, patches, and more from Microsoft and third parties. This week, Microsoft announced its newest Surface devices powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 processors. There is the 12th-gen Surface Pro and the 8th-gen Surface Laptop. Both devices feature little to no visual differences compared to their predecessors from 2024, and most changes hide inside, including a better processor, faster graphics, enhanced NPUs, and more. The Surface Laptop also received a new haptic trackpad. Mozilla is currently working on a major Firefox redesign, and earlier this week, it published a roadmap of upcoming features and highlights of the upcoming "Project Nova" rework. Files, one of the best file managers for Windows 10 and 11, has been updated in the Preview channel with a long-requested feature. Tree View is finally available in version 4.1.4, allowing you to quickly browse deeply nested folders without leaving the main view. In addition, the update improved the Windows Fonts folder, allowing you to preview each font without opening the default viewer. Rufus, another useful Windows 11 utility, also received a notable update. Version 4.15 arrived as beta with important fixes for silent Windows 11 installation. It also includes patches for ARM-based Windows PCs, OneDrive removal improvements, and more. Here are other updates and releases you may find interesting: Microsoft faces shareholder lawsuit over masking AI costs and slowing Azure growth Microsoft now allows you to tweak Visual Studio to new extremes Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users Microsoft fixes one of Excel Copilot's most frustrating limitations Microsoft will finally let you sign in to Edge with a Google account Here are the latest drivers and firmware updates released this week: NVIDIA 610.62 with support for Empulse and various fixes. Reviews are in Here is the hardware and software we reviewed this week Earlier this week, we reviewed the DuRoBo Krono, a portable, phone-sized e-reader with some interesting physical controls. This device has an Apple Watch-like dial for page turning, frontlight adjustment, and more. Software is simple and no-nonsense, but it also lacks some useful features and customization. Overall, the device proved interesting, but not flawless. On the gaming side Learn about upcoming game releases, Xbox rumors, new hardware, software updates, freebies, deals, discounts, and more. Forza Horizon 6 received two big updates this week. Alongside the Series 2 content update, developers pushed plenty of bug fixes and balancing tweaks. However, they also had to acknowledge the Eliminator CR-farming exploit and shut down the online mode temporarily. Luckily, only a few days later, another fix arrived, which re-enabled Eliminator and patched the exploit. Microsoft announced new games for Game Pass subscribers. Those include EA Sports FC 26, Junkster, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Abyssus, RV There Yet?, and more. Some existing games are leaving the catalog, so be sure to check out the full list here. New games are also available for GeForce NOW subscribers, and they include Embers of the Uncrowned Demo, Aphelion, Megastore Simulator, OPERATOR, Citizen Sleeper, and more. Rockstart Games had plenty of GTA-related news this week. For one, the company gave GTA V players another free update. Those still playing the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are no longer required to pay $40 to upgrade to the latest-gen version. More importantly, Rockstar Games revealed the GTA VI cover art and announced the preorder date. The Epic Games Store is giving away two games: Citizen Sleeper and Roboeat.
