Windows Media Player 10 Stream Error

Question

Hi everyone, hope this is the right place to ask here. Most relevant place I found, I am having problems at the moment with Windows Media Player 10 because when I go to Stream anything from the Internet using WMP10, I get the following error message:

  Quote
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

But I get that message if I click on any Internet Media stream, does anyone know for a fix for this, details are below of the WMP10:

Windows Media Player 10

Version: 10.00.00.3802

Product ID: 69808-807-1187882-04048

I can't figure this one out, so I am relying on you lot!

Thanks and Regards,

JMann

Well you could go into the Preferences dialog and make sure all the settings are fine (like connections settings have been entered that could stop it from connecting properly), and that the file associations are correct (the tab might be called File Formats, can't remember).

If that fails a codec or something might have become unregistered (although that would most likely produce a different error message). You could simply try reinstalling Media Player 10.

Wilhelmus, I did this and checked all of them to be sure, same error still occurs.

Virtorio, did all that, same thing. Just re-installing the player now, I will let you all know in due course with the result..

Excellent, all working now. Thanks everyone.
