How To: removing badges

Recommended Posts

this is going to be a straight foreward guide on how to remove the badges you don't want on your car.

first thing, you want to make sure the badges you want to remove are not bolted/riveted on. you can usually tell if double sided tape is used by looking real close between the badge and the body of the car.

once you've determined its double sided tape or glue then you can continue.

for this guide i did not need any floss or a fishing line. just a few things.

- blow dryer

- small cotten towel

- fishing line (works best) or a small pocket knife, but be very carefull.

- lighter fluid

- polish or wax

- patience

this the lighter fluid and polish i used

with the dryer heat the surface and make sure that you are moving around and not overheating in one area so that you do not damage the paint. its important that you keep moving.

after about 2 - 3 minutes you can take your pocket knife and apply slight pressure to MOVE the badge. you DO NOT want to remove it yet.

here i am applying slight pressure and once the tape is exposed, use the dryer to directly heat the tape, but do not continue heating it for a long time, you can feel it peeling away as you are drying and pulling with the knife. spend 5 - 10 seconds at a time so that you do not overheat it. (after all even the badges are plastic and you don't want to deform them or damage the paint)

as you apply more heat, the tape loosens up.

This took about 8 - 10 MINUTES to remove the badge.

here you are left with the other side of the tape that is attached to the body.

Continue the heat treatment with one hand and take a cotton towel and wipe while applying pressure slowly and moving in one direction.

you will not get ALL of it completely off.

to remove all of the remaining tape, take some lighter fluid, apply it on the towel and rub it back and forth applying slight pressure until all of the tape is removed.

There will be a visible traces of the badge... we'll fix that later on.

-----------------

after cleaning with the lighter fluid, wipe the surface dry then apply an ample amount of polish and use your finger to spread it and let it dry for about 5 - 10 minutes because you want to make sure that the polish has enough time for its abrasive effects. (ya, i know my polish says non abrasive, but it still works)

then take a clean towel and while applying enough pressure rub the polish off. its best that you rub in circular motion for about 1 - 2 minutes. (until there is a gloss finish and no trace of the polish)

here is the before and after.

the entire process for this took me about 30 minutes.

At some angles you will still notice traces of the lettering, but this a normal thing and it will disappear on its own in time.

It will take 1 - 3 months for it to completely disappear, since its an area that has never been exposed to the sun, it will take a while before the sun does its job and you will not notice it at all.

NEVER USE SOLVENTS!!

this is only a guide and if you screw up, its not my fault. :p

EDIT:

removed the vids..

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for Dark Scrolls, Empulse, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The final update of June for Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce NOW is now available, and it is touting support for six more games. The company is also drawing subscriber attention towards the summer sales kicking off across stores, so they can stock up on more cloud-supported titles. Of course, the Steam Summer Sale is the biggest promotion, which is kicking off later today. "Supported Steam games can be streamed across devices with GeForce NOW, making it easy to buy a game once, keep progress synced and pick up where the gameplay left off on PCs, Macs, handheld devices, phones, TVs and more," says the company. "In other words, the Steam Summer Sale brings the deals; GeForce NOW adds the flexibility." Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active as well. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, available June 22) SAND: Raiders of Sophie (New release on Steam, available June 22) Deer & Boy (New release on Steam, available June 23) EMPULSE (New release on Steam, available June 24) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) With the June expansions coming to an end, Nvidia should be announcing its July GeForce NOW plans next week. Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
