One of my friends is a registered nurse and he uses his PDA for the purpose which you describe. He also has a Powerbook. He has a Tungston T3 with programs for different prescription drugs. I know, because he demonstrated it to me several times but I don't remember what the actual programs are called. Hope this helps.

My fiancee is a senior (final year) nursing student who has a Palm Zire 7 something with bluetooth and it synch's just fine ... the crappy thing is the software is only compatible with Windows and I think that is with almost all medical software unfortunately.

By the way, medical PDA software is amazing ... at least the stuff she has. Saves me loads on doctor bills

ok let's take what palm can do and multiply that by 10 and you have the pocketpc at the same cost or less.....and yes it would be worth the hassle of emulating windows if you needed to.

I've seen both platforms, I used to sell them and I have done a lot of research into both and it really doesn't take long at all to realize all the software and innovation is going into pocketpc's and that they are a lot more powerful spec wise and even bang for the buck ratio is a lot better considering price vs performance and usability between the two.

Also the place I used to work at had one of those electronic inventory guns and it was running off of Windows CE, not sure exactly which version could have been the new renamed windows mobile versions, but I never had a problem with it crashing or throwing out errors(also if Window CE/Mobile does crash a soft reset 99.9% of the time fixes it, it is like the reset button on your computer). But where I work now they just got a similar device powered by palm and it constantly crashes and throws out all types of errors.(btw a soft reset did not fix this device, I had to unscrew the back of it and take out its battery before it would come back w/o the error)

When my fiancee was looking into which platform to buy she went palm because most of the medical software only runs on it (at least that's what I recall).

I remember seeing pictures of houndreds of flash cards that were going to be used on PocketPCs for medical-students so I'm not sure it's stricktly for Palm anymore, plus you can emulate Palm OS 4 apps on your PocketPC...

OH and BTW http://www.handango.com/SoftwareCatalog.js...&addDevices=add

well that may be the case, some software is specifically writtin for just one pda platform and if it was meant to intergrate with a specific program that the hospital uses then you may not have a choice. But normally speaking there is always an alternative program on windows mobile for any palmos software. Also I am no programmer but I believe it is easier to program for pocketpc because of the sdk and similarities probably to other microsoft programming languages.

Another plus for me was playstation games at playable frame rates on my pocketpc  ........who needs a psp? I had a playstation portable years before the psp came out =)

One thing I will say the PalmOS has going for it, is a much nicer default interface where as the first thing I have to do when I get a pocketpc is download wisbar 2 and snoopsoft dashboard and the OS X theme. Their is a program I used a long time ago called eXPerience and it kinda like simulated the xp interface fairly decent.
