Age of Empires 3 Demo is OUT!

Saying dark reign did better is an overstatement.

I didn't mean that Dark Reign 2 was better graphically... what I meant is that it did better at 3D five years ago than AoE3 did today with all the hardware advancements.

The main problems I have are that the interface doesn't scale and is ridiculously huge... and that scrolling around the map isn't smooth. But the menu system is poor, those tool boxes popup all over the options screen making it hard to see things, the town centre view is horrible, etc. On the plus side the loading times are incredibly short.

Anyone noticed how to rotate the camera? There is an option to do it but I don't see it having any affects.

I enabled that option as well and couldn't figure out how to rotate the camera.

Ok, decided to download anyway :p  (i have the geoforce2 440mx 32mb)  Got a warning about lacking system requirements when i started it up, but continued anyway and i was shocked at how well it did actually run.  The scrolling was a little sticky (i decided to full on everything i could in graphics options :D ) but it still ran.  Didn't keep it on for long, so no idea how it would run once the map had expanded more and more objects/people were onscreen.  Tested it again with lower graphics options (but not too low to make it "2d"ised ) and it ran pretty well then too (less stickiness in the scrolling and it didn't lag as the map grew.)  Good stuff.

Oh sweet, downloading now. Better work on my GeFore 2 MX 400 64MB ;)

It probably will :p

man... this game looks like a toddler designed it! C'mon. I was looking forward to this, and thought that it would at least have a decent interface, but the food/gold all those icons look like they are blown up 2 pixel crayon drawings, and the images and huge bar at the bottom look ridiculous and low quality. The graphics when I first started up the game at the menu screen scared the crap out of me! It looked like a picture out of a colouring book with low quality textures and flat buildings... the water DOES look good though, but the trees look like crap! And the units and buildings don't always look great either. AOE 2 still seems nicer in terms of solid graphics and playability. This is a joke... even at 1680x1050 everything is HUGE and the bar is HALF THE SCREEN! I can't play with this kind of garbage... and I still consider AOE 2 one of the best games of all time, but this is just...

It doesn't even scroll smooth, and the graphics are blocky, especially the units and the animals... PLEASE GET THIS STUFF FIXED OR LOSE THE FRANCHISE FOREVER! This is worse of a layout and demo showing than AoM and not nearly as many people fell in love with that game

Right click on your desktop and go to properties, then click on the settings tab, then click on the advance button, then click on the troubleshoot tab and drag the hardware acceleration slider all the way over to full

i have the same problem and tried what you said. mine's already at the fullest and still doesn't work.

I am extremly dissapointed with this and dungeon siege 2. both games look and feel like they were made in 1997

Micrsoft games are really becoming  a big dissapointment for me.

uh that's because the best games go to the xbox

Heres a ss of the menu, click for full size, NOT 56k friendly

well that looks different than AOC. i thought the specs were low for what they were saying to expect, d/ling now though.

Villagers on roller skates? No, actually it was more like a Segway. I was exploring and came across a native village, and one of them was moving around without moving his legs at all; just gliding. I was looking forward to this game so much, only to find out it's horrible. I think I'm going to cry. :(

Well...I believe all these issues are fixable easily...except for the graphics which people seem to be complaining about...

Heh, remember those beautiful preview screenshots!

Btw, the water in my game ( main menu) looks way too bright...like glowing lava...

We have created a new e-mail address to collect your bugs. If you encounter anything please send an e-mail to [email protected]

Be sure to include as much information as possible about your system, any logs you received as well as error messages. If you provide reproduction steps that would also be helpful.

Common fixes for most problems

1.Make sure your system supports the minimum requirements.

2.Make sure that your video card and sound drivers are updated.

3.When you install be sure to turn off any antivirus software.

4.Make sure the game is not blocked by any security software.

My excitement turned to bitter dissapointment.

The game runs very poorly on my pc. Sure it has a X300SE Video Card, but HL2 works fine on it and AOEIII works like a dog.

I'm cancelling my preorder shortly.

A big fat (N) from me for AOEIII - fizzer.

it is a demo, not a full version so bugs are still there.

    • BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 by Razvan Serea BetterMediaInfo is a modern, open-source graphical user interface for MediaInfo, designed to improve metadata inspection workflows for audio and video files. It extracts and presents technical parameters such as codec profiles, bitrates, resolution, frame rate, stream ordering, and container-level attributes in a structured, readable layout. The interface is built with clarity and responsiveness in mind, supporting drag-and-drop functionality. It preserves the full feature set of the MediaInfo library while making the data easier to parse for users working in media management, encoding validation, or post-production environments. In short, BetterMediaInfo takes the power of MediaInfo and makes it much easier to use. Whether you're checking video quality, verifying audio settings, or just curious about a file's details, it gives you clear, organized info without the clutter. Requires Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is included in most Windows versions. BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 changelog: Added an Image stream table to the card view and detail view, including type, color space, resolution, and size fields. Added View settings to toggle Image stream tables in card view and detail view. Added BatchMkvMerge to the welcome page with localized descriptions and a GitHub link. Added a portable 7z archive to the Windows release artifacts. Improved first-run language selection by detecting the system language and saving it to configuration. Updated Italian translations. • We wrote about it here https://www.neowin.net/news/browser-vendors-pen-open-letter-to-microsoft-saying-enough-is-enough/ the open letter itself is here https://browserchoicealliance.org/open-letter/
    • Someone forgot to mention EDR in the title ? I think I will not click anymore on the articles written by this author. All are click bait.
    • Browser vendors including Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have jointly written an open letter to Microsoft saying enough is enough regarding Edge being pushed on Windows users without consent. Microsoft makes it difficult to change the default browser, promotes Edge throughout Windows 11, and has made the uninstall process unnecessarily complicated compared to other apps. Does anyone have more details on what exactly the open letter demands and whether any regulatory action is being considered? Also curious whether this could lead to antitrust investigations similar to what happened with Internet Explorer back in the day. Would love to hear from anyone following this closely.
