Secure File Sharing Over Lan

Recommended Posts

I'm sharing some files over a lan, and i want to have control over who can access them.

Ive read a bit about it and found out i need disable simple file sharing, which i have done.

This has made more options appear on the sharing and security tabs on the properties of folders.

In the share permissions where you can select users, it only lets me choose users on this computer, not on other computers on the lan. If i click locations, it only shows my computer.

So my question is, how do i use these options to select users on the other computers, to give them access to my folders?

I hope ive made it clear what im trying to do!

"Sharing files in workgroup mode requires that each computer have a local account for each user who will connect. If you take this approach, you can toggle the Windows firewall settings to block file sharing when you are not using it."

so you need to re-create the user accounts/groups (mmc, add/remove snap in, local users and groups, groups, right-click new group, place all users that will have the same rights levels into a group together) on all of the machines
