Why don't you? (YYYY-MM-DD)

ditto, same here.

its just confusing when some people put the month first :s

I agree. I don't mind something like YYYY-MM-DD

, but MM-DD-YYYY drives me nuts :p

If there are a range of dates, for example, it's easy to guess the format used. But if it is a single date... blah :s

I use something like 10.Sep.2005 when I write for myself or something

I totally agree with this standard. Here in the US, people write MM/DD/YY because that's how they would sound it out (September 10, 2005). I guess that makes sense, but I love using YYYY-MM-DD. It just makes sense. If you need to sort anything by date, this makes it very logical. Anything files or folder I need to title with a date get this date so I can easily look through them.

Same here, I think when filling out an application or signing a check or anything else like that that 10 Sep 2005 is the easiest and most straight forward. No one has to guess the month and the day. Even 2005-09-10 could be confusing if someone is looking back at the date and wondering what month it was in... if they don't know you are using the ISO standard.

i use YYYYMMDD when i need to name files and have them sorted properly (it's a pretty good standard, cause standard alphabetic sorting just naturally sorts it right, whereas DDMMYYYY doesn't work quite well).

i think it's a standard that would come in veeery handy. much better than DDMMYYYY or MMDDYYYY. It'd confuse people less

Make file names and everything fix the order automatically (Detect the DD MM YYYY automatically), the technology is very much capable of this if only developers would take advantage of that, including Microsoft ofcourse.

So when viewed on a system of some American it can be viewd by his/her preferance.

I've been used to write the date as 20050910 anywhere I go, but didn't really know it was actually an ISO standard. :D

The new format has already been adopted by many organizations worldwide. And many more should do so ? to make their own lives simpler. And everybody else's.

YYYY-MM-DD ftw! ;>

I was also surprised to see it when I first found out that it was an ISO standard. Other smart people also thought of it. And some of them were smart enough to make it a standard. ^^

Yay smart people.

I can't stand anything besides MM/DD/YYYY. Ever. It's been ingrained into my head since age 3 and while I can/do understand when it's written other ways, I could never ever automatically write anything but MM/DD/YYYY. It's instinct by now.

Why don't you? :)

because it's backwards 09/10/05 :p

Funny that it's an ISO standard, my company is ISO certified and I've never seen anything but MM/DD/YYYY at work. Man I used to hate those ISO audits. Glad I'm not in an office job anymore.

I use that format all the time as i find the other confusing (I mean 05/12/05...is it the 5th of Dec. or 12th of May?...at least 2005 12 5 always means Dec. 5, 05)

So i personally use 2005年12月05日 everywhere...I might actually "2005Y 12M 05D" it...but it's always the same...

Some people are saying they use MM/DD/YYYY becouse that is how its said.

What if you did this with time?

You say its twenty past four.

So why not put the 20 first lol?

20:04

Now that would be confusing!!

That isn't an equal comparison. An equal comparison would be saying "its four twenty".

Or you can compare "twenty past four" to saying "fifth of may, two thosand five".

I don't understand the US method of MM-DD-YY - it just seems to confuse the international community. To me it is logical to think DAY, MONTH, YEAR - smallest to largest. That's why 9/11 is completely baffling - to me that is the 9th of November.

That's just because of how they read the date: in English you say "September 11, 2003".

    • It would be surprising if even 3 year old Apple Watches (and not SE models at that) cannot run watchOS 27. Granted, it doesn't mean it would work as well. We'll see.
    • Apple launches new website for parents and a revamped Screen Time experience by Aditya Tiwari At WWDC 2026, Apple announced new parental control features for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 to keep kids' device usage in check and keep them safe online. As a parent, you'll get access to a simpler setup experience, Ask to Browse, Time Allowances, and a redesigned Screen Time. You'll be able to pick exactly which apps your child can access on their device, choosing from just a few essential apps, a curated set, or the apps you feel are appropriate. There will be an option to gradually add more apps. Ask to Browse is a new feature that requires kids to request permission before visiting a new website in Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You can also turn on a setting that requires your kid to ask for approval before connecting with an unknown contact via Messages, FaceTime, or the Phone app. You can manage your child's screen time more effectively with Time Allowances that work across categories, including Games, Entertainment, and Social Media. You can set time limits based on your kid's age and get suggestions informed by expert research. Speaking of expert guidance, Apple added that it's working with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to adapt its Family Media Plan to create a guide parents can refer to when using Apple products. Moreover, the company has also set up a new dedicated website, where you can find tools, resources, and answers to common questions around parental controls and child safety. Apple also allows parents to set daily schedules to manage screen time, configuring access to different apps at different times of the day and across the week. Overall, the Screen Time section has been revamped and provides a bird's-eye view of your kid's average device usage and most-used apps. "For example, to help protect important family moments, parents can quickly limit access during meals, outdoor play, and other times that deserve full attention. If kids need a little extra time to finish something in an app, parents can also easily extend access," Apple said. Apart from these, Communication Safety has been updated to block gore or violent content when detected in shared images or videos. The feature already blurs nudity in Messages and FaceTime calls, and is enabled by default for users under 18.
    • They already threw the Ultra 1st gen under the bus? It really feels like someone screwed up, and that advanced AI features will only be available on the list above but someone screwed up and said that Watch OS 27 in general will only be available for those models. I think they will pull it back. I did see someone also put a snap shot of their series 9 watch being offered the watch os 27 beta. As the backlash online is already in full swing.
    • Right, Google... because that's who this is going to. Google, the company who's entire business model is geared around ad revenue and your personal data.
    • That is the natural course for regulations. First to protect the consumer. Then to protect the business/industry from upstart competition. There are countless examples across history.
