Computer won't boot with USB hub plugged in

Recommended Posts

So one of my friends called me up that her computer wouldn't boot after installing some new ram and a usb hub.

The computer works fine, but as soon as the hub is plugged in the computer ceases to boot. Like, the power button just seems to stop working. To get it to start again i unplug everything and plug it back in and it works again.

the only other usb device i had handy (lexar jumpdrive sport) plugs in and nothing seems to be the matter. What the h*ll is going on here?!?!?!

The usb hub is http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/bt-402-44.html this one

Anybody ever have similar problems?

The computer is an AMD athalon at 1200mhz

256 megs of ram

300 watt sparkle psu

radeon 7200 video card

Are there any devices plugged into the hub? Is the hub being powered by the computer itself, or using AC adapter? Try removing any devices plugged into hub, and try using AC adapter.

Also try temp removing the new memory, and just try booting with the hub.

if the power button simply doesnt respond when anything is plugged into that USB drive - there might be a short in that USB socket

have the USB drives worked b4?

do any of the USB drives make a successful boot?

can you access a USB drive after @ a desktop ?

the hub works fine if i plug it in after the computer turns on.

the hub has an AC adapter. I tried it with no devices plugged in, with the jumpdrive plugged in, doesn't work either way.

So anyways i just got a pci usb addin card so there are enough ports for now. Its probably a short or something.

Doesn't matter.
