Question about iPod Dock

Recommended Posts

I just recently got an iPod and I'm planning on purchasing a dock for it soon. My plan is to keep the iPod in the dock when I'm home and not using it. However, this would mean the iPod would always be charging even when a charge isn't necessary. From what I hear, such practice isn't good for the battery.

For those who have a dock, how do you deal with this situation?

Question: Do I need to completely empty the battery before charging it, and does doing this prevent the so-called "memory effect"?

Answer: You don't need to empty the battery before charging it. Lithium-based batteries, like those used in iPod, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries.

Question: Should I leave iPod connected to the charger or in the dock whenever I'm not using it?

Answer: The battery stops charging when it's full. Leaving it connected won't charge it any more. It's perfectly OK to leave it connected so it can charge overnight, for example.

Straight from apple's website. there is your proof. Just to give you a little more background, I worked in the AppleCare devision doing iPod techincal support up until April '05. I've seen alot of iPod issues... and alot of questions. Never once was I wrong on this issue. Trust me, trust the documentation. :D
