No, that would be a rediculous thing to do.

It's a beta, for testing.. it is not meant to be used as a primary operating system yet.

Would you switch to a half built car if you already had a fully functioning one, it just wasn't the newest model? Would you move into a brand new, but half built house if you already had a house that was a few years old?

Note the rhetoric.

Yeah you can't really answer that since it's only beta. It's nowhere near done yet. What if you planned on keeping it as your main OS then bought some new hardware and it didn't work.

Just because it has all that eye candy doesn't mean it's usable right now. IMO that's all this beta is right now is eye candy to show off part of the new look

Stupid thread, it is beta because it is not ready to be primary OS.

actually, if you want to use it as your primary OS, fine go head and do it, but if it crashes on you are wonde why there are no security updates for it. An't our problem

oh I have a better title for this thread

"Should I stick my head in an alligators mouth"

Yes

No

mntbikeracer1:the thread is not stupid just the poster should look for other threads that answer that question instead of making a new thread about something thats already been asked.

anyways

i would advise against using it as your main os.for one thing it is beta quality and that in itself is not very stable and there are lots of bugs still,i would wait till the final product arrives but testing vista would be alright but stick to xp for now.

andykling:read above where mntbikeracer1 is mentioned and you will get the idea.

well i dunno about vista but i think he's prolly asking because alot of us used whistler as our main os (i know i did with no dual boot) and while it crashed a few times but i loved having something to work on, test and try and fix. Windows 2000 is stable as a rock and that gets boring after a while.

I would do vista but i know my laptop can't run it ...

1.2Ghz P3-M

512MB Ram

40GB

So that's why i haven't.

I am running Vista 5219 MSDN as my day to day box. I of course still have XP on dual boot when I run into issues. Actually the only problems I am having is playing videos with my 6600GT. Since I am using it at work, its not really an issue.

Just dont use Vista if you expect to play any games.

I'm really liking the search bar for the start menu, other then that I havent found much of an improvement over XP. Maybe Beta 2 will bring alot of new features.

Glass is pretty, but most of the stuff can be done in Windows XP with a few tweaks.

Most of the features such as stack by author and what not in Explorer are too slow to even think about using.

The question is somewhat pointless.

If you are a Microsoft Beta tester than you have an obligation to run Vista for testing purposes.

If you are not a Microsoft Beta tester than you shouldn't be using Vista at this time.

still in beta.. don't knock it until you've tried it...

it will be worth switching. sure its gonna cost $$$, and people like there uber pirated XP

can you really put a price before your privacy and security? Windows Vista is gonna have a major overhaul of improvements.. specially for security. so, switching worth it? Yes, 500%

I'd love to try vista if I could get my paws on it, but replacing XP with it is just nuts in my humble opinion. It's beta software and so 1) it is likely to be riddled with even more bugs than the "official" releases of windows and 2) Beta software almost always comes with little or no support. I'm not saying I know what the support situation with Vista is because I'm perfectly willing to admit I haven't checked, but I just don't trust beta software as a rule.

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
