Has anyone used http://www.loginrecovery.com to recover a forgotten admin account password on XP? Is it any good? Any other better alternatives?

I dont know if I'm allowed to post the resource I've used recently to achieve this, so I wont. But there is a website where you can download a bootable disc, which let you remove the passwords from admin accounts.

I have used Login Recovery in the pasted, when it was under a different name. It use to be free as well, however now it is a paid service it is no longer an option for me, I only used it the once, when I forgot my password after reinstalling Windows XP Professional on a new hard disk. However, the service still seems good, and I reccomend it.

way to make yourself look like a fool pretending to be a mod.

This is a legitimate question about a legitimate program

iam not trying to pretend to be anything. iam just quoting some thing that YOU should have took a look at when you 1st Joined neowin.

its jsut a stupid tool for script kiddies that dont know how the NT password hashes work.

so they can use this dumb tool and pay some one to "crack" the password for them.

lots of other people have asked questions like the 1st poster and they have been removed from neowin.

I have to use this sort of thing at my workshop often and it is always a legit thing! So I suppose a legit question should not be deemed to be breaking the rules!

Agreed. A friend of mine had forgotten the password to his computer and the offline ntpassword program is what i used to get him back into it. Its very useful and the legal uses out weight the illegal ones.

I know how to decode Hex/Binary and ASCII code for your information, i am qualified in that area, but cannot be botthered to sit and decode it myself, and was interested if there was a program. Does the NT Hash Disk do this? Without changing the password and is it for XP? Not NT?

Security cicrumvention of Windows XP isn't a topic that should be discussed here on Neowin.

So if i need to deactivate my windows firewall.... Ops...

Here in neowin we can't talk about thinks that may break windows security... :pinch:

Jesus, where is my old super friendly neowin...

Year 2001 and 2002 please came back to neowin

I thought NT's password hashes were irreversable, so there's no point in trying to decode them.

So actually, I wonder how this tool can reveal the password in 10 minutes...

But, if it's your own computer, use the disk mentioned by Hellbender.

(just to blank the password, changing doesn't work most of the time)

Just remember this: you do something wrong and you might lock yourself out of your own system...
