Can't delete a file in XP

Recommended Posts

This file is called "yp.yahoo[1]." And yes, there's a period [.] at the end of it. It resides in the "\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\452N4HQF\" folder. Unfortunately, this file is from an old OS backup, so its NOT the same folder as my active Temporary internet files folder, meaning emptying from IE won't have any effect.

I think the period at the end of the file name is the problem, I don't know how it got there, but I can't rename, delete, move, or copy it. Tried also in DOS and it still won't delete. I haven't tried in Safe Mode, but not sure what difference it would make. I hate to format a 200G drive just because of one stupid file. Any ideas on how to delete this thing?

Used this app or something similar to it before a long time ago, but forgot what it was called. Anyway, thanks heaps, it works. Damn yahoo file is gone. :)

When you tried to delete it in DOS did you use MSDOS? If you did try ending the explorer.exe process. I had a similar problem and that did the trick. Good luck with that.

Forgot to mention I already tried the kill the explorer.exe trick, but that usually works on "in use" errors. This was a illegal naming error, was it was access denied. But thanks for the advice anyway.
