Secondary video: PCI ATI Rage

Barton XP @ 2500+

AND THE MOST UPDATED VIDEO DRIVERS!!

try reinstalling on another account, if this doesn't work post in steampowered.com in support. Don't update your question too many times though becuase that will send it back to the end of the line

Fist turn off the automatic restart:

1. Right-click My Computer

2. Properties

3. Advanced

4. Settings under Startup and Recovery

5. Uncheck Automatically Restart

And watch the sparks fly from the processor when it heats up...Trust me m8,this is most probably an overheating problem

Not necessarily, I had the same problem. It was Counter-Strike: Source doing the damage and no other game I had this problem with.

Looking through the BSOD and other error messages helped me solve the problem.

Also the sparks won't fly, it's a BSOD, it's not an intensive program, the CPU won't overheat displaying a BSOD.

i know what this is as this is what caused the massive mess up when valve added HDR into the game

you need to remove your current drivers using Driver Cleaner Pro, and then download thenvidia 81.85 from the site, install and restart then you will be fine.. there is an artical on thr steam website about it

EDIT: also after installing the drivers i did this:

<direct from steam>

Next open launch options and add -autoconfig

-Open Steam, then Play games

-Right click the Source game, click properties, then Launch options

-add -autoconfig, click ok, then close

after the hdr demo and steam update... my CS:S stuffed up to... except i could still play.. the graphics were screwed tho.. i could see through walls and stuff.. it made it fun for a few rounds, but then after pwning it was boring... i watched guys walk behind walls and as soon as they came round the corner i awped their asses! mwahahah...

its fixed now btw... the next steam update fixed it.. i dunno what it was tho!

Right... I did evrything you guys said on this page, but still my cs and DoDS reboots my computer.

When I:

Fist turn off the automatic restart:

1. Right-click My Computer

2. Properties

3. Advanced

4. Settings under Startup and Recovery

5. Uncheck Automatically Restart

Then My comp just turns off instead of restarting...

I've reinstalled everything, after a HD format & windows reinstall, It still won't work.

I thinked i'm just screwed...

Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Event Viewer -> System, and see if it gives you anything around the time where your computer restarts. I doubt it has anything to do with overheating.

    • Plenty of info (benchmarks etc) out there about how turning off e-cores can increase performance in certain workloads. Which tells me that Microsoft or Intel can’t get this mess of cores sorted out. At work we have this lab and someone was testing (TrueNas performance testing) ESXi on a white box setup that had a 13700K in it and ESXi would purple screen every time until they turned off ecores.
    • I've been using OneDrive for photos and documents since Windows 8.1 came out and it's been the best way to keep a backup of what I have. I also use GoogleDrive on my phone with Android 15 to back up my phone. Over the past 12 years, I've seen people losing data on their PC or phone because they don't use cloud services. Even though I warn them to use them. Especially those who make money working on their PC with thousands of files. A 1TB cloud service is extremely cheap these days and there's no reason for you not to use one. I've seen people losing valuable data on their phone because they don't use GoogleDrive on their phone and this is much more common than on a PC. On Windows, I've seen people having hardware problems with their HD and SSD and losing all their data just because they refused to use OneDrive, which offered the backup option. There's still an external SSD as a second copy to be used together with your OneDrive. Bitlocker is completely safe, you will only have problems with it if you use bad programs that mess with the integrity of Windows. Your iPhone and Android also have encryption and if you mess with the system gears it can bug and you can lose your data too. Windows 11 is perfect if used correctly. But people are stupid enough to buy a brand new car, open the engine and start messing with it until it stops working, and then go to the car manufacturer to complain that it stopped working just because the user messed up the engine.
    • Hey it's not my fault a politician's team made a tech blunder; a significant one at that, is it?
