Resetting Password on Windows 2k Server

Recommended Posts

Hi, I work for a campus radio station @ my school, but we have an issue. We have a win2k server (I dunno why they installed server, the machine isn't serving anything) that we have become locked out of. Someone got mad at the exec board of "radio club" and quit the club. Before leaving however, he changed the only password we had, and now we can't log in! Is there a way to get around this and make another account/change the password?

We have a large collection of CDs that the club gets in the mail that are ripped to that PC, and I dont want to lose them... Thanx!

edit: I know I can use knoppix and back them all up, but it would be alot better if I could just reset thee account, that way everything is set up the way people are used to.

Google for Windows 2000 password cracking. As long as you have physical access to the machine, it is easy. I used to have a floppy disc with all the things I needed. It would take between 15 minutes and 8 hours to find the password. It all depends on the speed of the machine though. We used to use it all the time when working with repoed machines. I personally don't think we need to be linking to such utilities on Neowin though.
