Removing Duplicates in iTunes

Greetings.

I'm having a bit of an issue concerning importing songs in iTunes. It's concerning the duplicates that always come up and while there is a way to view duplicates, I don't know how to set it so it only deletes duplicates, but still keeps the originals. Also, I was wondering how one could fix iTunes so that it automatically updates the listings from a folder. Any help on this would be appreciated as I got over 2 500 songs on this iBook and doing it manually is too time-consuming.

iTunes does not have a "watched folders" option. You can view duplicates in your library by going to edit--> Show duplicate songs. With that being said, I have a bunch of duplicates. Not songs with the same name, but actual duplicate files. The second set will have a "1" at the end of the name, so I can delete them in Windows Explorer. Good Luck.

its the lack of those two features that really turns me off to using itunes as my main media player. it is also really heavy on system resources. Usually every couple of weeks I just purge my library and then re-import all 25 gigs of music. takes a little bit of time, but whatever.

Ah, my bad! I forgot to press "Placer dans la corbeille" (yeah, I installed the French version) when I removed the songs from the library, so that was why I got the duplicates. It's strange how Apple copies instead of symlinks the music to the iTunes folder when it is already on hard disk! Weird! But still liking the iBook, that's for sure!
