shihchiun
If they look old enough they might be able to get in. Not that I support that kind of thing... Pete Zaria
Some friends asked me to buy them tickets to an R rated movie. Their parents said it's OK. The problem is, I can't go to the movie with them, and the local theater requires that someone 17 or older attends the show with the minors. My question is, if I bought them tickets online, could they just walk right in? Think it'd work? Peace, Pete Zaria. YBG
Why don't they just roll through confidently and try to get in? We seriously just buy tickets and walk right in to every movie, maybe we look older than 16.. Are the movies there really that strict? I don't think they really care unless your friends are 14 or something. Pete Zaria
Nah they're both 16. I used to get carded at movies all the time, especially on friday nights... But they card you at the ticket booth where you buy them, not inside the theater. So my question is, if I bought them tickets online, do you think they'd get in? I dont see any reason why not... I'm hoping maybe I can get off work early and just go with them, lol. Is Jarhead any good? Peace, Pete Zaria. Edit: BTW I wouldn't buy them tickets except I know it's OK with their parents. Shetland
ok it seems R means 16+ so i'll assume that, Either take an adult or find someone there to say your an adult. OR if at least 1 of them is a girl then just partner with one of them and make it look like your together, you'll get in. Borbus
No need to buy online. Just go to the booth without them and ask for however many tickets you want. They won't ask you who they are for and if they do just act like your a bit offended because its none of their business and just say they are for your friends. The problem still lies with getting them into the screen. If you can, try to avoid the people who rip your ticket in half. Once there was a massive queue for the ticket ripping in half man so me and my brother went under the rope that was supposed to keep you out and nobody even noticed. NC-17 is basically the same thing only it?s 17+ (17 exclusive) and you can?t bring people underage. Napalm Frog
well, all what they asked me for (the rare times i actually went to see a movie) they just asked for my high school student card, which didn't even have a birthdate on it. and when I saw 14A movies, they just asked what year I was born in. Basically, they are usually only strict on "just opening" films, after a week or two they don't really care. then again... esco
mmm, the days before I turned 17 ;) my gf's 15 though, so that's a little of an inconvenience. My suggestion though: wear a college shirt. I have my gf wear my Johns Hopkins shirt all the time, and it's not a problem. crimson
i dont know how your theaters work, but here there is a ticket guy upfront and then you basically have free reign to the whole theater, just buy a ticket to a pg movie, and goto the rated R movie. Objexxx
Where I live, they don't card or anything. I mean... there's 12 year olds buying tickets for R-rated movies with no problem. I guess it's just where I live in a somewhat small town. youm0nt Veteran Posted November 12, 2005 Veteran Share Posted November 12, 2005 depends on the theater.some may or may not let you in.i know the local one here asks you for ID and if you dont have it,you'll probably get the ticket anyway.depends whos at the register. kylejn
Didn't read the whole thread, but just buy tickets to another movie (non-R) in the same wing as the one you want to see and just walk into the R movie rather than the one you bought a ticket for. *shrugs* Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/396765-getting-into-an-r-rated-movie/#findComment-586798996 Share on other sites
PLCorndog
some people will have an easier time getting into an "R" rated movie than others... it is the theatres discression whether or not to use the ratings... they are only guidelines placed by the MPAA Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/396765-getting-into-an-r-rated-movie/#findComment-586799005 Share on other sites

dior_addict
Rated R means 17+ can go in without an adult. And "adult" is considered 21+. So in order for them to get in legally, they have go in with someone 21+. For me, before I was of age, we never went to R movies on opening night. There's too many ushers and I.D checking to get in comfortably. We usually wait a few weeks and wait for the hype to die down. Even so, some theatres are still picky. So we have to know the environment of each theatre. If when me and my friend wanted to go to an R movie, we would goto the theatre where the staff is limited, in which I.D checking is not really necessary. Or, you can just buy the tickets for them, and hope they don't get carded. Tell them not to shave for a few days and let the stub grow in. It adds to the age. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/396765-getting-into-an-r-rated-movie/#findComment-586799484 Share on other sites
