well, if anyone's interested, here's how the script for fading stuff in is going.

i've been pretty absorbed into my Trim template recently, so i have been polishing it up with fancy things :p and making it better? :D

here's the flash video (pretty crappy quality, just look at the avatar :p)

also, select "Wide" for view size when you open the page. the borders on the avatar do not look like that in reality, the recording just sucks

it's safe to say that this has been discontinued for the time being (or for ever?). the effect, as i have messed around with in the trim template, will cause text to be very very unattractive during fading and will also be very slow as the message load gradually increases. mind you, this is evident even only with the avatar fading (as shown in the trim 'prototype'). it would be a lot worse when it comes to having the entire message "area" fade.

later news may/may not come.

sorry for the lack of updates. just recently been really busy with work. be ready for good and bad news (if you will consider this bad news).

the bad: i have switched [almost] full time to ubuntu linux. which means, for the most part, there will not be that many releases of skins from me anymore. think of it as a long temporary break. sometimes i'll boot into windows and skin the occasional app here and there. but don't be expecting anything big and giant (although i MAY take up a big thing now and then).

the good: someone has emailed me about having almost finished their own port of renkoo and asking for a bit of code for the fading that i have done in trim. this email was pretty much what prompted me to do this reply. anyway, i have replied to the email seeing if he would release it or not. i have encouraged him to release it, which is the wonderful news for you all. besides that, i have also decided to release my Trim mod (which includes the fading) as well, sort of like a "final" release. i will probably release this in an update of Trim.

i hope there won't be any angry reactions to this. keep in mind, i won't be leaving indefinitely. i will try to return on longer holidays and after i get into university. since this year is my final year of high school, a lot of importance is put on every assignment, project, test, and exam. that's where my priorities are. i also have a social life (you might find this typical of what every skinner/developer/whatever-computer-dude says when they leave). since there is so much stress due to school, i need to balance my life out by relaxing and whatnot with my friends and significant other. making skins will only add to the stress. its not that making skins is something i don't like, its just too much when theres a problem that i just can't fix and i have to resort to scrapping everything and starting from scratch.

well anyway, i don't know if any of you bothered to read that, but those are my reasons for slightly removing myself from the skinning community for the time being. i will update you guys when i get a reply from the dude who almost finished porting renkoo.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
