Choosing a 64-bit AMD cpu with SSE3 support

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

Recently, I've been having trouble looking for any AMD cpu socket 939 with SSE3 support, I tried searching this on google and also tigerdirect, which tigerdirect doesn't seem to give that kind of info.

And no, this isn't for OSX some people assume, I just need something faster as my PC is already out of date. I've got the mainboard/motherboard/mobo part covered, just need to know which AMD cpu has SSE3 support, it can be from an AMD Athlon 64, and AMD Athlon 64 FX to a AMD Athlon 64 FX-2 cpu, but I'm also on a tight budget, I'm willing to spend anywhere from $300.00 and below for the AMD cpu alone.

So which AMD socket 939 cpu should I go for?

Thanks for helping, I really appreciate it! ;)

I just got a 3200 Venice core, and have it OC'ed to the same speed as the 3500 on stock cooling and it runs great and very cool. For the price the 3200 is great.

All of the following AMD processors support the SSE3 and the AMD64 x86-64 instruction sets:

AMD Sempron | "E6" Revision on "Palermo" Core | Socket 754

AMD Athlon 64 | "E3" Revision on "Venice" Core | Socket 939

AMD Athlon 64 | "E6" Revision on "Venice" Core | Socket 939

AMD Athlon 64 | "E4" Revision on "San Diego" Core | Socket 939

AMD Athlon 64 FX | "E4" Revision on "San Diego" Core | Socket 939

AMD Athlon 64 X2 | "E4" Revison on "Manchester" Core | Socket 939

AMD Athlon 64 X2 | "E6" Revision on "Toledo" Core | Socket 939

AMD Opteron 100-series | "E4" Revison on "San Diego" Core | Socket 939

AMD Opteron 100-series | "E6" Revision on "Toledo" Core | Socket 939

So, in other words, look for Athlon 64 processors labeled as "Revision E" or something similar to that. Also, all Athlon 64 X2 and all Opteron 100-series processors (on Socket 939) contain the SSE3 instruction set.

Thankyou for the list of processors that support it, the AMD Athlon +3200 Venice core cpu is just within my budget range too, around $152 at www.newegg.com website. :D

Thanks to all that have helped here in this thread, this is "just what I needed".

Thanks again everyone! ;)
