Where to get & how to implement Vista icons in XP

It depends on how much you know about XP. You can use ResEdit or ResHacker and hack the main files with icons like shell32.dll, explorer.exe, Mydocs.dll etc. You then have to change these hacked files for the ones in XP. I would use Replacer for that. You can also find icon themes on this site in Icons, Cursors. Icon Packager will do it for you but you can only use it for 30 days then you have to buy it.

One thing about hacked files, if Microsoft updates any of the files through Microsoft Update it will change all of your icons back to XP.

The best icons I've found, by far, are included in CrystalXP's Vista Brico Pack, which can be found here:

I use a high res monitor, and 99% of the Vista icons currently available on the web look kinda bad on my machine... raggedy edges, etc. These ones don't. They're clear with nice clean edges.

Of course, the Brico Pack will allow you to change a lot more, than just the icons... if you want. But during installation, you can check or uncheck which things you would like to change. If you wanna change just the icons, just leave the icons box checked, and uncheck everything else.

Anyhow, installation is about as simple as it is for any other program, and the uninstallation (in case you don't like the results) is pretty simple, too. Personally, I just use this pack to install the icons, the "System" files (for those great Vista images when you open your control panel), and the bootscreens... which can't be beat, either...
