Top Ten Reasons To Wait For PS3

Recommended Posts

Hardware:

360 has a faster processor and a vastly superior GPU. PS3 has Blu-Ray (which, for all we know, could be the next BetaMax).

Software:

360 has the best development tools in the industry. It has a user experience second to none.

Online:

360 has Xbox Live, the clear leader in online gaming services and it continues to push the envelope. Sony has a PC in your living room... yay?

Games:

360 has Halo. It has Rare. It has Bioware. It has Bungie. It has Microsoft Game Studios. It has Square Enix. It has strong support from Sega and EA and Activision and Epic and Rockstar. Sony has MGS4, which might not be exclusive. Sony might not even get GTA4.

1080p:

If you have the VGA adapter, you'll know that the X360 is capable of running at all different progressive scan resolutions. While 720p is the minimum for games, and 720p/1080i are the only options for Component Video - there's nothing stopping the X360 from supporting a 1080p signal once a standard exists.

With the PS3's hardware it is extremely unlikely that you'll see any games run at 1080p, if it's even truly supported. The hardware just can't handle it. Do the math. The memory bandwidth isn't there. It's impossible for the PS3 to render a game like MGS4 at 1080p with any reasonable framerate. Doing it with FSAA is a pipe dream.

Sony hasn't even announced what minimum resolution they'll require developers to support. I'll be surprised if they can enforce 720p as a requirement, given the limitations of the hardware.

Nice slanted take on the hardware.

Great hardware tools != great games and great hardware tools != more games produced for the system

Metal Gear Solid 4 is an exclusive. The GTA series is a multiplatform series so the PS3 is more then likely going to get it. Sony has support of all those developers mentioned minus Rare, Bungie, MS Games, and Bioware. They have 120 developers already working on games. Big deal.

Man you MS people making up all these lies and slanted truths is getting annoying.

...I should also note I am not a MS fan boy...

hell I use a Mac and own a Sony MD....:/

but come one, you got to agree that post was weak...Blue Ray...fine, Connection and Expension...fine. But COME ON, a game listed down as a reason? You can still pre-order?!?!...

You got to agree that the author didn't put too much thought in making the article an unbiased and fully supported one and so can't we come to a conclusion that he/she must be some kind of Sony Fanboy to push out an article like that?...

I stand corrected...

586849501

oh no, i totally agree with you the article is weak. and i dont agree with most of it- but your post was not very well thought out either, should i throw out your opinion completley?

Actually i admired your post a lot for taking a kind of high ground and explaining yourself to me, until... ouch that vieled insult at the end... thanks :p another valid post :)

Jesus christ.

The "10 reasons to buy an XBOX 360" article was written by XBOX fanboys.

The "10 Reasons the Revolution is better than the XBOX 360" article was written by Nintendo fanboys

This article was written by Sony fanboys.

There's so much one-sided misinformation in this thread it's redunkulous. People, read news articles giving facts about things and form your own opinion accordingly. Trying to get other people to see things your way about a decision that affects you in no way directly is useless and annoying.

I'm not sure what's worse: people who write these obviously biased articles and threads or the people who take them seriously.

Dammit guys, it's just a freakin games console. To play video games. It's not a religion. Why must you fanboys feel the need to bash everything that's not your opinion/console of choice? What are you guys, 12 years old? Grow up and realise that as much as you love your certain company, they are all the same. They all make mistakes. They all lie. They all just want your money. It's business. Now each console has it's advantages and disadvantages. What you need to do is get the one that appeals to you most, or all of them. Now some people are willing to buy a console based purely on the name of the company developing it, even without knowing the game titles or anything else about it. So even if they put out crap, they'd still buy it and defend it. Makes no sense, but that's what happens when people develop a bias towards, or against, something. But fine, if you like something, you don't have to force your opinion onto someone else. You just accept what they like and they accept what you like.

Now about this "Top Ten Reasons To Wait For PS3" article. Who cares? If it offends you so much, you shouldn't be taking it so seriously. Every IGN console channel did one. IGN Cube had an article entitled "Xbox 360 is Not a Revolution". And IGN 360 wrote one being "Top 10 Reasons to Buy an Xbox 360". They all take shots at each other and it's all in good fun with most of the reasons being just opinions and meant to be taken lightly. Since the readers of each respective channel are likely to want that certain console, there's no harm done.

Nice slanted take on the hardware.

not so long ago, you claimed you are not a fanboy. but this thread and particularly your responses clearly show your clear agenda against anything Microsoft/XBOX. So stop spreadig bull****.

I am not going to pretend I like PS2. Eventhough PS2 is the only console lying around in my apt right now....its gathering dust. I prefer XBOX and its superior games for my needs. Apart from the fact that Sony's online service & controler both suck monkey's ass. so yea call me & others on NW forums xbox fanboys if that makes you sleep peacefully in the night.

I faintly remember reading your posts in a thread when this article was posted for first time on Neowin forums. So this is just another useless thread to satisfy all sony fanboys who are currently feeling down.

If the system couldn't do 1080p they wouldn't say it could.

And about Sony wouldn't say 1080p thing, I have PS2 currently (only console). Show me how I play "Toy Story" graphics in real time on the emotion engine.

Microsoft has delivered so far on both consoles. At least to me they haven't lied in terms of capabilities of their console(s).

Its time Sony deliver on all the bull**** Ken Kutragi has been spreading around. :x Its sick.

Man you MS people making up all these lies and slanted truths is getting annoying.

There is no lie in what he said. XBOX360 was out on tuesday with whatever hardware spec MS promised. PS3 is still in air. Read arstechnica's reviews of both systems. XBOX360 has advantage in its overall architecture eventhough PS3 cell has more raw power.

I only hope you don't cal Ars biased now :D   :woot: :x

SHUT. UP.

586849911

yea I know. but there has been a lot of spam on this forum currently. I stayed off so far but just couldn't resist in this thread. :D

So yes sir I will shut up now. kthxbye

Holy crap... THEY ARE VERY COMPARABLE!!! In my opinion, PS3 and xbox360 are equal. People are subject to their opinions. xbox360 was out first, it gives it the upper hand; Sony will use Blu-Ray which pulls MS's hand down to their level. And finally, the systems play games, some are better than others, some are "only on xbox360/PS3". Get over it, THEY ARE FOR PLAYING GAMES. And, really, if there were good games still being made for psone, we would still be playing it. It isn't all about hardware, or graphics, or 1080p, or playing DVD's, its about PLAYING THE GAME!

Wow, just noticed how unorganized my post is, sorry! It may seem like my opinion keeps changing. My final point is that PS3 and xbox360 are equal, it depends on your favorite games, and we don't need all of these console improvements, we could get by just fine on psone. Before that, though, we'd suffer.

How can anyone prove PS3 is better?? It dosent even exist yet, only in small fanboy minds it exists.

Wow sony are going to produce a 3.2 GHz cpu near 2007

Guees what MS have already got a 3.2 Ghz 3 core Cpu in 2005 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! which is more advanced then anything available for PC, WHEN PS3 REALEASE NO ONE WILL BE AWWED BY 3.2 GHZ IT WOULD BE MAINSTREAM.

SO much for superiority The PS3 cpu that will come out after 1 year after 360 will only have maybe 10%-20% adavantage if that.

Now look at what Xbox did to PS2 , the xbox came out one year later and had specs almost double of the PS2

PS2- 433 mhz Xbox 733 MHZ SEE THAT WHAT A COMPANY SHOULD DO IF ITS GONNA TAKE A YEAR TO COME OUT IT SHOULD TOTTALY KILL ITS COMPETITORS HARDWARE.

PS3 WILL NOT DO THIS IT WILL PROBABLY BE EQUALL IN TERMS OF POWER OR MAYBE MAXIMUM 10-20% BETTER. SO MUCH FOR SUPERIOR HARDWARE.

umm you know PS3 CPU is more power full then 360. When measuring in flops about 2x more power full.

but it is true the PS3 CPU is harder to code for the then 360, so PS3 wont be taken full advantage of right away. But I think in the future it will be taken advantage of, So the PS3 is by far more next-gen. Ya it can't be taken advantage of now but will be taken advantage of later witch is why its' next-gen.

I think all three systems are going to preform great and do well. I don't know what I'm going to buy I'm going to wait for all three to come out. In the end it comes down to games and we only have seen some of X360 so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Don't bother, Mojo, no one's going to read your post. If anything, someone'll call you a fanboy and move along to some X vs. Y rant.

586849889

Yeah I know, seems to always be what happens here. *sigh*

Anyway, I'll post it once more and since it's on a new page, maybe someone will take notice...

first off, you need to stop using all caps, or noone will take you seriously, and second- yeah the xbox came out a year later with better specs, whats your point? the ps2 still outsold the xbox 4:1

Personally i will be waiting for the PS3 since i am a lot more intrested in the games for PS3 then Xbox 360. Final Fantasy, MGS, Tekken and a few others.

I will probably end up getting a 360 a while down the track. But at this point in time i see the PS3 as a true next gen console. It just seems like the 360 is a normal xbox with some new hardware in it thats about it. Where as the PS3 has support for things like 1080p blu-ray which comes standard with the console. I dont like the idea of having to pay more for HD-DVD once it comes out. Plus with the sd-card readers, usb, bluetooth and god knows what else, it has the potential to become an increased media center over the XB360. For example just taking the card out of my digital camera and putting it straight into the console and being able to view pictures and recordings straight off the card. (Though granted my plasma tv can already do that to some extent). In my eyes the PS3 has more expandibility when compared to the XB360.

Also yes the XB360 processor is faster then that of the PS3, the Cell processor is a lot more powerful then that in the XB360. It has the ability to decode 12 seperate HD signals at the same time flawlessly where as the XB360 can barely handle 2 or 3.

As for those of you knocking the PS3 controllers. Have you had a chance to try them yet? Oh wait of course you havn't, thus to me your opinions on that matter are null and void. I will reserve judgement until i have a chance to try them for myself.

Full backward compatibility of the PS Series, giving the PS3 a range of some 1000's of games meaning much much less clutter around my HD tv with only the PS3 there. As opposed to the compatibility with only selected titles on the xbox 360.

Sony games have online support, granted it's on the xbox live level, but there is still time for sony to develop something similiar even if it isnt ready by release. Nut that doesnt mean the PS3 wont have online support.

And theres just something about the look of the XB360 that doesn't appeal to me. Personally i just find it a bit tacky but thats just me. I also pesonaly feel that the Xbox 360 was rushed just so it could get into the market before the PS3.

These are jsut my personal opinions on the console, and sometime down the road i will end up owning both. Just like i currently own a PS2 and Xbox.

one sony has had the "Cell" CPU out for a while, there has been a few artivles on it. Its running in the PS3 devkits @ 2.4GHz and truely its 8 cores.

and get you're facts right ps2 was 300MHz (294.912 MHz to be exact).

MHz IS NOT A SPEED! Yes it dose effect CPU speed but there is a lot of other factors.

Note: sony designed the ps2 cpu for gaming, xbox took a pentiumIII/celeron from intel.

I am no fanboy of any kind. I admit xbox is definitly more powerfull the ps2 and has a lot more features like harddrive and what not (ps2 hd was a joke). I own 2 xbox's and one ps2 and I am very happy with both.

Truefully right now i'm playing ps2 more (god's of war, shadow of the colosis)

GET OVER IS PS3 IS MORE POWERFULL THIS TIME AROUND!

I still think X360 and revolution are great systems and i'm not even sure witch one i'm buying and once prices go down I might buy multiple.

Whats my point you ask??

You took me seriously enough to reply

Anyways whats my point well PS3 had one thing going for it which were the amzing hardware specs it was meant to have, In my post I made it pretty clear how the specs yes are great and indeed slightly better then the 360 do not warrant for a person to wait a year for such a console.

Also i pointed out the fact that if a console is going to come out later it should totally anhilate its competions hardware specs which ps3 clearly will not do, at best it will slightly beat 360.

Again I know that the PS2 outsold the Xbox the only reason Xbox is second now is only caus eof its hardware power which DID destroy the PS2 ( dont argue about this point there is no way anyone in there right mind will say PS2 has better grapichs or hardware)

Here are the reasons

Larger User base aka fanboys of PS1

Advantage of Time (1 year)

Large amount of developers and games and exclusives

Now for me I see the same trends in reverse

This time the Xbox360

has a large user base

exclusive and killer apps such as Halo3

its hardware will be able to compete with the PS3

Do you see what im getting at?

Well i will say that. Burnout: Revenge looks so much better on PS2 then it does for Xbox. So very much better. The PS2 was develped for gaming, where as the xbox was jsut using normal PC parts in console form. The PS2 didnt need the power to do what it did. CPU Speed makes little to no difference in a console. As i said in my post above, The cell is way more powerful then the processor in the Xbox 360.

As for Halo 3, it's not even out yet, how can you claim it to be a killer app? And quite a few of the developers working on XB360 are also working on PS3 and vice versa

    • Hey Google, these are the Gemini features I want in 2026 by Aditya Tiwari Google Gemini has been around for over three years. The AI chatbot started its journey back in 2023 (as Bard) when ChatGPT was already a talk of the town. However, it quickly attracted criticism after misrepresenting facts about the James Webb Space Telescope. The search giant spent a year fine-tuning Bard before rebranding the chatbot and its underlying generative AI model to Gemini, drawing inspiration from NASA's first human spaceflight program. Note that Bard was initially powered by LaMDA and PaLM 2; Google has since added several new features and integrations to Gemini. That said, there is scope for improvement and a gap for new features. I have been using Gemini for a while now and have realized that the chatbot lacks several features, making it harder for me to research across topics. These are mostly function-over-form updates that can improve the overall experience. Delete individual messages from a conversation Image via DepositPhotos.com One good thing about Gemini is that it can maintain context throughout the conversation. But things might get chaotic when you want to ask a related question, but don't want it to be part of your conversation in the long run. You can't ask that related question in a fresh chat because Gemini will lose the active conversation context of what you're trying to research. If Google allowed you to delete individual question/answer pairs, you could simply ask about a sub-topic and remove it from the conversation to create a smooth flow of important stuff. Offline mode Image via DepositPhotos.com A big pain of using Gemini daily is that everything loads from the cloud. It takes time for your chats to appear, and you can't view your conversation history while offline. To get a better idea, you can open the Gemini app and see how it looks without an internet connection. While Gemini models run in the cloud, it wouldn't hurt if Google could store chats (at least the text part) on the device so we can refer to them when offline. Google can also offer a lightweight version of its AI model to help with basic drafting, summarization, and other tasks. It has the Gemini Nano model, which can perform on-device processing on Google Pixel, Samsung, and some other Android brands, but it's a system feature and not related to the cloud-based Gemini app. Make temporary chats permanent I can't thank Google enough for taking the time and effort to add incognito mode or temporary chat mode to the Gemini app. It lets you have conversations without worrying that the topics will end up in your chat history or used for model training (at least on paper). Google claims that it doesn't use your temporary chats to "personalize your Gemini experience or train Google’s AI models." However, the data is stored "up to 72 hours to respond to you and to process any feedback you choose to provide." That said, I often start researching something in a temporary chat, only to realize the chatbot's answer is good enough to refer to later. Sadly, Gemini doesn't have an option to make such temporary chats permanent. In other words, I won't be able to follow up on it if I close the temporary chat. I'm left with alternatives like copying the answers into notes or another app. My digital life will get a lot better if Gemini gets a button to make temporary chats permanent. Collapse answers for a cleaner view You're heavily invested in your research game and suddenly feel the need to go up in the chat to recall something. This is when the conversation thread starts to feel like an overwhelming, unending wall of questions and answers. What if Google added a way to collapse Q&A pairs in the Gemini chat thread? It would look quite clean and easy to navigate. You'll quickly get an overview of everything you have discussed with the chatbot. Add buttons to jump between messages Suggested mockup of the feature. This reminds me of a small but useful Gemini feature that Google could add to its chatbot: the ability to hop between prompts in a conversation. Just add simple up- and down-arrow buttons, similar to YouTube Shorts, so people can quickly scroll through the messages. A table of contents or Chat Overview It's hard to get a bird's-eye view of everything you have discussed with the chatbot during a lengthy conversation. This is where a table of contents, or Chat Overview, displayed at the top of the screen, possibly in a drop-down button, might come in handy. You'll be able to get an overview of the chat and jump between messages, serving as an alternative to the up/down arrow buttons. Temporary mode for Gemini Live Image: Google You can use Gemini Live to have real-time conversations with the chatbot, which feels like you're talking to someone in the same room. However, a downside is that Gemini Live doesn't work in Temporary Chat mode, so all your conversations end up in the chat history. Google should consider expanding the temporary chat mode to include Gemini Live. Default to a specific chat One thing that feels somewhat annoying to me is that Gemini always opens in a new chat, whether on web or mobile. Sometimes, you want to return to your last chat. Google can take cues from web browsers, which let you choose whether you want to go to a new tab or a specific web page(s). Gemini can also have options to default to a specific chat when reopened. That said, generative AI chatbots have endless possibilities given the vagueness of their work. You can mold them the way you want by attaching different connectors, adding custom instructions, and including source files. It remains to be seen what Google has in store for future updates and whether anything from this wishlist gets the green light. The search giant released a stream of new Gemini updates in recent months, including Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni Spark, adding that it now has 13 products with more than a billion users each. What do you want to see in the Gemini app? Tell us in the comments.
    • Thank you for the post. Just a FYI that links to an outside site or promoting specific software is considered spamming here. Asking general questions is fine.
    • I have been thinking about AI detector tools as a software workflow rather than a single "AI score" widget. When someone pastes text or uploads a document, the UI can return a report with a probability-style score, sentence highlights, reliability notes, and limitations. The useful part is that it can point a reviewer toward passages worth reading again. The risky part is that a polished score can look more certain than it really is. For people who build or review web apps, what should happen before the user copies or exports that kind of report? The minimum I would expect is: A clear input boundary for pasted text versus document files. Limits shown near the workflow, including minimum text length and maximum file size. A report label that says the result is a signal, not proof of who wrote the text. Sentence highlights and evidence notes alongside the global score. Reliability notes when the sample is too short or lacks enough sentence variety. False-positive and false-negative caveats that remain visible in copied/exported summaries. I am trying to avoid the pattern where a clean report card becomes the whole product story. For AI detection, "review this evidence in context" seems more honest than "trust this score." Would you keep the warning text visible on every report, or make it collapsible so the main result stays easier to scan? Disclosure: I work on a small AI detector/reporting workflow, but I am intentionally not linking it here. I am asking about software and report design, not promoting a site.
