Top Ten Reasons To Wait For PS3

Recommended Posts

Personally i will be waiting for the PS3 since i am a lot more intrested in the games for PS3 then Xbox 360.  Final Fantasy, MGS, Tekken and a few others.

I will probably end up getting a 360 a while down the track.  But at this point in time i see the PS3 as a true next gen console.  It just seems like the 360 is a normal xbox with some new hardware in it thats about it.  Where as the PS3 has support for things like 1080p blu-ray which comes standard with the console.  I dont like the idea of having to pay more for HD-DVD once it comes out.  Plus with the sd-card readers, usb, bluetooth and god knows what else, it has the potential to become an increased media center over the XB360.  For example just taking the card out of my digital camera and putting it straight into the console and being able to view pictures and recordings straight off the card.  (Though granted my plasma tv can already do that to some extent).  In my eyes the PS3 has more expandibility when compared to the XB360.

Also yes the XB360 processor is faster then that of the PS3, the Cell processor is a lot more powerful then that in the XB360.  It has the ability to decode 12 seperate HD signals at the same time flawlessly where as the XB360 can barely handle 2 or 3.

As for those of you knocking the PS3 controllers. Have you had a chance to try them yet? Oh wait of course you havn't, thus to me your opinions on that matter are null and void.  I will reserve judgement until i have a chance to try them for myself.

Full backward compatibility of the PS Series, giving the PS3 a range of some 1000's of games meaning much much less clutter around my HD tv with only the PS3 there.  As opposed to the compatibility with only selected titles on the xbox 360.

Sony games have online support, granted it's on the xbox live level, but there is still time for sony to develop something similiar even if it isnt ready by release.  Nut that doesnt mean the PS3 wont have online support.

And theres just something about the look of the XB360 that doesn't appeal to me.  Personally i just find it a bit tacky but thats just me. I also pesonaly feel that the Xbox 360 was rushed just so it could get into the market before the PS3.

These are jsut my personal opinions on the console, and sometime down the road i will end up owning both.  Just like i currently own a PS2 and Xbox.

i agree with your post 100%

as for me buying a ps3, its almost a lock to eventually get one- but if they can get it to launch with a GTA or ZOE game, come hell or high water i will get one at launch.

QUote =cloudstrife13 "GET OVER IS PS3 IS MORE POWERFULL THIS TIME AROUND!"

OMG did you read my post?? I clearly say that yes it will be more powerful but only by 10-20 % as the hardware specs are very comparable.

But my main point is that for a truly all power machine that going to be delayed by 1 year to be only 10-20% ibetter is truly a disgrace wouldnt you agree? That why i gave the PS2 and Xbox exampl, look how much better the xbox was 1 year after PS2.

No you are completely missing the fact. You are comparing SPEED. Speed is all but one part of the hardware and one of the most useless.

If you want to compare the PS2 and Xbox like at the size of the new PS2 (The slim one) compared to the XBOX.

OMG r u stupid or something?? IF you remove the cell vs 360 cpu issues then the 360 will destro the PS3.

Look at the GPU the 360 gpu blows teh PS3 gpu out of the water.

Again with PS2 vs Xbox the Xbox has a way better GPU, HDD, etcc which all combine to give it the performance boost.

Where are you pulling this 10-20% figure from??? PS3 specs aren't finalized, you don't know when it's going to be released (probably quite a bit less than a year from now).

Whats my point you ask??

You took me seriously enough to reply

Anyways whats my point well PS3 had one thing going for it which were the amzing hardware specs it was meant to have, In my post I made it pretty clear how the specs yes are great and indeed slightly better then the 360 do not warrant for a person to wait a year for such a console.

Also i pointed out the fact that if a console is going to come out later it should totally anhilate its competions hardware specs which ps3 clearly will not do, at best it will slightly beat 360.

Again I know that the PS2 outsold the Xbox the only reason Xbox is second now is only caus eof its hardware power which DID destroy the PS2 ( dont argue about this point there is no way anyone in there right mind will say PS2 has better grapichs or hardware)

Here are the reasons

Larger User base aka fanboys of PS1

Advantage of Time (1 year)

Large amount of developers and games and exclusives

Now for me I see the same trends in reverse

This time the Xbox360

has a large user base

exclusive and killer apps such as Halo3

its hardware will be able to compete with the PS3

Do you see what im getting at?

586850061

i didnt take you very serious because of the caps, i only replied, because how else are you going to learn? Anyways, your whole argument is a mess, im trying to make sense of it- one of the things you say really annoys me, the fact that you think that the PS2s success if based solely on this fantasy of yours that there is an army of 90,000,000 sony fanboys out there.

wrong.

People that have never gamed before were buying PS2s, face it man- Sony had a good campaign going for it, they made the ps2 something you NEEDED to get and they succeeded based on their marketing and 3rd party support, not because of a year headstart. Outselling the competition 4:1 does not coincide with the year long headstart they had, the xbox hasnt been around only a year. What is the excuse for the last 3-4?

Get over IT. The article is biased as hell, and for the most part opinions not facts. If I go throw out something on the Rev or 360 saying why its better, what will you then all ramble on about it. The god damn author took in no consideration into whats a fact and whats an opinion. For me I chose the 360 since A. I only have an sdtv, so whats 1080p going to do for me. I was more impressed with the xbox then the ps2. And I love live. CASE CLOSED.

not so long ago, you claimed you are not a fanboy. but this thread and particularly your responses clearly show your clear agenda against anything Microsoft/XBOX. So stop spreadig bull****.

Yeah so I clear up lies and misconceptions about the PS3 and now I am a fanboy. You sure got me there. I guess if someone doesn't have anything negative to say about Sony then they must be a fanboy then. I see how it is.

I also must really hate the Xbox so much to have purchased one. I said in a thread before I like my Xbox, but I am not going to be blinded\brainwashed and declare my undying devotion to Microsoft. Some of you and your attachment to them is rediculous. And the fact that you need to defend the Xbox360 by spewing out misinformation and false facts about the PS3 is pretty damn sad.

Ok lets take this slowly

CPU to CPU comparsion

3.2 Ghz Cell Processor vs 3.2 Ghz Triple Core Processor

Ok What is the maximum percenatge differnec between the two, Honestly it will be nomore then 10-20%

GPU vs GPU

Ati Chip with 10 mb embedded ram, with industry first combined shader (500mhz)

vs

550 MHZ Nvidia chip ,no embedded ram, still uses current technology with the shaders

Even though the 360 is better ill give this to you PS3 fanboys again what would be the likely difference? again i say about 10-20%

See what im getting at now, they are very similar and overall performance will be very similar, All i want is for PS3 fanboys to stop using hardware as a reason.

586850092

Very true. thats why I'm waiting for all three. I think ps3 is more powerfull but if its games suck then what dose it matter?

Hitman you said its about 10-12% faster, and that sony has no CPU I stated that sony has the "Cell" CPU compleate and when measuring in flops is about 2X faster.

Sony, IBM, and Toshiba spent a good time designing "Cell". The X360 CPU had a lot less production time.

PS3 CPU had lots of time spent on it and I do not think they would design a CPU for gaming and not make it good.

The first core (of 8, 9 with 1 disabled (don't know why)) on Cell is almost the same as the one that is used for all three cores on X360

check out this link on the "Cell" CPU

Ok enough arguing about this, I have got a headache now. Lol

The thing is no matter how much I convince you , or how much you convince me isnt gonna change anything. The misconception out there with the general public is that they believe PS3 will be better in every aspect which is not true and you must admit this aswell. I will say this again PS3 will be a very powerful machine and will be SLIGHTLY better then the 360 hardware wise. But in all honesty anyone that knows about computer hardware will know that both systems are very closely matched and either one can win out in different tasks.

Goodluck playing with your PS3 when you get it, until then I will enjoy my 360.

Stop using hardware as a reason for what!? i still dont understand your argument. And if everyone else in this thread countering your points is a Sony fanboy, then you my friend are the best example of a Microsoft one.

I want sony fanboys to stop using hardware as reason for PS3 superiority.

Ummm the differnce with the CPU is 3 cores and 8 cores. Athough cell is 1 main core and 7 sub-type cores. but still preforms a lot better. But I know won't be taken advantage of anytime soon.

Yes 360 has 10mb embedded ram in its GPU but the ps3 has 256MB of ram for the GPU and 256MB ram for the CPU. Insted of 512MB shared (shared bandwith). I know the 10mb embedded ram is going to help a lot and I don't really know what GPU is better.

I know it's about the games and hardware dose matter but nearly as much as games.

I have to say I really don't like that PS3 probaly won't include a HD @ launch.

586850175

Omg i have seen anyone so hypcritical in my life. You stat that you want the PS3 "fanboys" to stop using hardware as a reason, is that not excalty what you are doing to defend your beloved Xbox 360. Agian the PS3 has the upper hand in Performance, the XB30 has no where the capibility to handle decoding 12 HD signals at the same time, the PS3 does. The xb360 can barely handle 2 or 3. Hmm that sounds like a a lot more performance in the PS3 to me.

And your 10-20% difference, i would like to see how excalty you came to this point or is it just one of your wild guesses based on absolutly nothing?

The PS3 is a console designed for gaming. They did it brillintly on the PS2 and it will be shown in the PS3 agian. The xbox was just using off the shelf processors and was merely nothing more then a PC in a tiny box as opposed to a console.

I'd also like to point out that there is a huge, massive difference in the way PC's and consoles are designed.

Hitman it sounds to me like are just getting caught up in the argument, you made a point and it was counter argued, now you are arguing on just that one point trying to defend yourself. Doing whatever it takes to do so.

Yes i will admit the MS has learned and used some more specialised parts in the 360. Oh and the GPU in the 360 is not using an industry standart. to be an industy standard it would need to be either supported and/or used by both Nvidia and ATI. It is just as of now an ATI standard

well said kussie :) i completley forgot about the 12 hd signals and the fact that the xbox was off the shelf products, both very valid points. I think however M$ learned from the xbox and the 360 has more specialized parts,. But yeah, i dont mean to kick a dead horse, but hitman, u just got caught up in the argument and are now frusterated and are arguing for the sake of arguing.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Who cares if one is more powerful? It's games that count. If you buy a game system because it's more powerful than the competition, even though there are few to none in terms of good games, you're gonna be a very bored gamer.

Yeah so I clear up lies and misconceptions about the PS3 and now I am a fanboy.  You sure got me there.  I guess if someone doesn't have anything negative to say about Sony then they must be a fanboy then.  I see how it is.

Pretending to be neutral doesn't work my friend. I like Microsoft products but devotion ? even when I don't intend to buy XBOX360 anytime soon ?

I am not defending XBOX360. I am sick of people defending Sony's lies & bull****. I don't think that company is acting fairly with consumers any more. Microsoft (& nintendo for that matter) never made ludicrous claims about their consoles. Sony has used smokes & mirrors at every product launch. Remember their screwed up mp3 players, recent rootkit fiasco ?

Ummm the differnce with the CPU is 3 cores and 8 cores. Athough cell is 1 main core and 7 sub-type cores. but still preforms a lot better. But I know won't be taken advantage of anytime soon.

Cell SPEs are not CPU "cores". Cell has only 1 core. in fact Cell's CPU & XBOX's core are very similar, both derived from PPC (accordning to my understanding of ars's articles)

leave the RAM part, Xenos (xbox360 gpu) has 48 shaders with Unified Shader Architecture. Which gives it an edge over PS3's GPU.

If PS3 can indeed deliver on sony's claims, well & good.

But dual 1080p & 7 controllers (not practical ?) just sound stupid. There is no way PS3-cell can render 2 screens at 1920 x 1080 and still have enough power left to drive the game engine.

And Gigabit ethernet for "Fast" online play...WTF??? last time I checked even my 100 Mbps connection don't reach top throughput.

Just smoke & mirrors...plain lies.

Pretending to be neutral doesn't work my friend. I like Microsoft products but devotion ? even when I don't intend to buy XBOX360 anytime soon ?

586850271

How am I "pretending" to be neutral? I really don't give a damn about either system. What I can't stand is when people start posting lies and bend and twist the truth (ex. posts like this: PS3 $500, PS3 fans rejoice..when the article doesn't even state it will be $500). I have noticed stuff like this constantly being posted and it is more of the Xbox fans then anybody doing it. Then when someone posts any PS3 article that puts the PS3 in a postive light like what I did with in this post, they jumped on. And as a result it is kind of making me sick being an Xbox owner.

I'm not gonna try to help you Hitman since I would lose my temper and get banned for sure there are so many silly comments being made.

x360 seems to have slightly more advanced GPU, Xbox live and FAR SUPERIOR development tools.

PS3 has a slightly more powerful CPU capable of about twice the flops x360 can. However flops have been proven partly by Sony to be the least important factor for video game performance. GPUs are far more important for example and Xbox 360 appears to have a slight edge over PS3 there.

Yes PS3 might be capable of rendering multiple HD sources at screen at once but what kind of crazy game developer would put HD video content on many surfaces in a game?

Every developer I've read about keeps mentioning how little difference there is in performance so should you believe them or should you belive the proven to be liar: Ken Kutaragi?

360 has pretty good changes in America and Europe although we all know it will lose in Japan just because it's American made.

    • Google adds built-in computer control to Gemini 3.5 flash by Karthik Mudaliar Google has added Computer Use as a built-in tool in Gemini 3.5 Flash, giving developers a single model that can reason about a task and operate graphical interfaces across browsers, mobile devices, and desktop environments. The feature is available through the Gemini API and Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, although it remains a preview feature for now. Computer Use enables an AI agent to examine screenshots and return actions such as mouse clicks, scrolling, and keyboard input. A developer’s application must execute those actions, capture the resulting screen, and send it back to Gemini, creating a continuous loop until the task is completed. Google says the integration can be used for activities including repetitive form filling, application testing, research across multiple websites, and longer enterprise workflows. Gemini 3.5 Flash can work with browser, mobile, and desktop environments, whereas Google’s earlier standalone Computer Use model was primarily positioned around browser interaction. The main change is consolidation. Computer control was previously offered through the separate Gemini 2.5 Computer Use preview model. As Neowin reported when that model was introduced, it was designed to interpret a visual interface and generate actions without requiring a website-specific API. Google later brought Computer Use to preview versions of Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash in January 2026. The latest release now incorporates the tool into the stable Gemini 3.5 Flash model rather than requiring developers to select a specialized model solely for interface automation. Gemini 3.5 Flash itself was announced in May as Google’s latest fast model for coding and multi-step agent workflows. It supports a one-million-token input context window and up to 65,000 output tokens, along with adjustable thinking levels that let developers trade additional reasoning for lower latency and cost. Google also added that Gemini 3.5 Flash received targeted adversarial training for computer-use scenarios. The company is also offering safeguards that can require user confirmation before sensitive or irreversible actions and automatically stop a workflow when suspected prompt injection is detected. Its developer documentation describes configurable protections for areas such as financial transactions and changes to sensitive records. Google isn't the first to bring Computer Use to its platform. Anthropic has made computer control available through Claude, while OpenAI has continued improving computer-use performance in its recent models. Microsoft has also applied the concept to business workflows, including a Computer Use capability for the Researcher agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

    • Google begins rolling out its post-Epic Play Store billing model next week by Karthik Mudaliar Google has confirmed that its redesigned Play Store billing and fee structure will take effect on June 30, 2026, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Economic Area. The changes will let eligible developers offer their own payment systems or send users to an external website for purchases, while separating Google’s platform service fee from the cost of using Google Play Billing. The rollout puts concrete dates and detailed rate cards behind the broader Android policy overhaul Google announced in March. That announcement followed a proposed settlement with Epic Games intended to resolve their long-running disputes over app distribution and payments, although the U.S. portion of the agreement still requires court approval. Under the new billing choice program, developers selling digital content or services can display an alternative payment option alongside Google Play Billing. They may also direct users to their own websites to complete a purchase. Developers can use Google’s standard payment-choice screen or design one that complies with the company’s user-interface rules. Choosing another payment processor does not eliminate Google’s cut altogether. The company will continue charging a service fee for transactions associated with apps distributed through Google Play, regardless of whether payment is handled by Google, an alternative provider, or a developer’s website. Google argues that this fee covers the value and infrastructure provided by Android and the Play Store. For developers earning up to $1 million annually, the service fee will generally be 10 percent. That rate also applies to auto-renewing subscriptions. When Google Play Billing is used in the U.S., U.K., or EEA, Google will add a separate 5 percent billing fee, and developers processing payments elsewhere will not pay that additional charge. This means Google’s familiar flat 30 percent commission is disappearing, but developers will not necessarily see a dramatic reduction on every transaction. An in-app purchase from an existing user processed through Google Play Billing can still reach a combined 30 percent. The biggest savings are likely to come from subscriptions, smaller developers covered by the $1 million tier, and companies able to move customers to their own payment infrastructure. Google is also offering lower rates through its Apps Experience and revamped Games Level Up programs. Apps and games that satisfy the company’s requirements can qualify for 15 percent service fees on new-install transactions and 20 percent on existing-install transactions. The criteria include performance and reliability standards, support for additional Android device categories, and selected platform features. Those program rates are scheduled to become available in the initial markets and Australia on September 30. For consumers, the immediate effect will depend on whether developers adopt alternative payments and pass any savings on through lower prices. For developers, however, June 30 begins a more flexible but considerably more complicated Play Store economy in which distribution, billing, install dates, revenue thresholds, and program participation can each affect Google’s final cut. Google is also separately developing a Registered App Stores program designed to simplify the installation of qualifying third-party stores. That initiative is expected to arrive with a major Android release later in 2026 and will launch outside the U.S. first. Google says the rest of the world will receive the changes by September 30, 2027, although billing rates for markets outside the US, UK, and EEA have not yet been announced.
