Top Ten Reasons To Wait For PS3

Recommended Posts

( Not because of this list ) But i'm definatly getting the Playstation 3 (Y) It overall appeals more to me than the 360

586847759

This is one of very few reasons to actually pick a PS3 over a 360. I have a 360, and plan on buying a PS3. Not saying the 360 is better than PS3, but there is not reason to pick one over the other. Why not buy both? Too poor? Well, if you can afford one, you can afford the other- not to mention the PS3 is a while away, so you will have time to save up.

Ooo, I can REALLY connect seven boomerangs? Well, no one will want to play with them, so I guess that really doesnt matter. From what I can gather, Sony has not added anything to the controller, just torn apart the design. Something tells me they saw Microsoft do it, so they had to.

One of the highlights of the PS2 was they did not experiment with a new controller, which was a very good move. When I saw the orignal Xbox controller, I was a little scared. Then I used it. Then I threw it out. The anchor was one of the worst console fumbles in history, next to Sega-CD. Sould have stuck with the same controller, IMO.

How am I "pretending" to be neutral?  I really don't give a damn about either system.  What I can't stand is when people start posting lies and bend and twist the truth (ex. posts like this: PS3 $500, PS3 fans rejoice..when the article doesn't even state it will be $500).  I have noticed stuff like this constantly being posted and it is more of the Xbox fans then anybody doing it.  Then when someone posts any PS3 article that puts the PS3 in a postive light like what I did with in this post, they jumped on.  And as a result it is kind of making me sick being an Xbox owner.

Agreed.

Too bad no one read my post on page 7. Rotparoge you were right.

I seriously do not understand why mods don't immediately close such flame-bait threads. It's ridiculous. Almost all of you are talking out of your ass. I mean most of you have never played an XBox 360, let alone own one, and I know none of you have played a PS3 so you're just spitting bull****. It's stupid. Again, it's not aimed at all of the posters on this thread.

I will be getting a PS3 because I feel it will be better than the XBOX 360. Why? Well, I like gadgets. All of the expansion abilities of the PS3 (PSP connections, etc - since I have a PSP) are what really sway me over. Nothing will change my mind about it, either.

Thanks for posting unrealiable specs. No really thanks.

umm you know PS3 CPU is more power full then 360. When measuring in flops about 2x more power full.

BS. The PS3 CPU is far from more powerful. It's 1/3rd the CPU, plus the SPEs. The SPEs are virtually useless for games. If you want to believe Sony's marketing hype then go ahead. The games will tell the true story.

but it is true the PS3 CPU is  harder to code for the then 360, so PS3 wont be taken full advantage of right away. But I think in the future it will be taken advantage of, So the PS3 is by far more next-gen. Ya it can't be taken advantage of now but will be taken advantage of later witch is why its' next-gen.

Again, you're living in a fantasy world if you believe that's true. The PS3 can't win on numbers, to they make up fake ones. When the first games come out and they look like crap at low resolutoins, you'll say "It's just the first gen! It'll get better!" like they did with the Sega Saturn. "It'll all be okay when they learn to program for it!" Right. No programmer is going to be able to make up for poor architecture.

Omg i have seen anyone so hypcritical in my life.  You stat that you want the PS3 "fanboys" to stop using hardware as a reason, is that not excalty what you are doing to defend your beloved Xbox 360. Agian the PS3 has the upper hand in Performance, the XB30 has no where the capibility to handle decoding 12 HD signals at the same time, the PS3 does.  The xb360 can barely handle 2 or 3.  Hmm that sounds like a a lot more performance in the PS3 to me.

Good job pulling numbers out of the air.

Now tell me... how many games require decoding 12 HD MPEG4 signals at the same time?

You do understand that decoding compressed video and playing games are completely different things... right? For example, just look at the Pentium 4's NetBurst architecture. It's really good at decoding/encoding video streams. But it gets its ass handed to it in games.

The PS3 is a console designed for gaming.  They did it brillintly on the PS2 and it will be shown in the PS3 agian.  The xbox was just using off the shelf processors and was merely nothing more then a PC in a tiny box as opposed to a console.

Umm... which system had better looking and performing games? Oh yeah, the Xbox.

Oh, and how exactly is the PS3 designed for games? Let's break down the two systems:

Xbox 360: A CPU designed specifically for games (three VX-128 cores for vector work, a dot product instruction). A GPU designed over 4 years specifically for the 360, designed to overcome the limitations of current generation architecture (including EDRAM, direct access to the CPU cache, MEMEXPORT, etc).

PS3: A CPU not designed for games. A GPU from PCs that was purchased at the last minute when Sony had no one else to turn to.

I'd also like to point out that there is a huge, massive difference in the way PC's and consoles are designed.

And you do realize the irony that the PS3 is more like a PC than the 360... right?

BTW, to anyone sayign the Sony Rootkit has nothign to do with their games section, only Music.

Need I remind you the PS3 uses BluRay ? wich btw uses the BD+ component of the HD Movie copu protection system, this copy protection systsem could probably also be used for games.

so what does this mean ?

a Faulty game disk or someone on the internet creatign a fake key thet's similar to your PS3's internal key will make your entire PS3 useless. scrap metal, untill you call sony and get a new firmware or something. wich you probably won't get as they'll just claim you tried to use copied media :)

sounds tempting huh ? ;)

And I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I'd prefer both M$ and Sony both burn in hell, but I must agree with this article.

586849473

So much for competition. Most definitely I'll be buying Revolution but unlike you I dont hope that either Microsoft or Sony burn down.

The article is about the PS3....

586849589

Is it? Then why does it need to diss the 360.

Well it seems to have gotten a rise out of the Xbox360 people for some reason so it apparently did its job.

586849589

And you being the messenger of this flame bait material are successful ? Is that what you are implying? That this article's flame bait motives were successful and you had the honour of posting it here.

Great hardware tools != great games and great hardware tools != more games produced for the system

586849631

Correct for the first part and wrong on the second

If hardware tools are great, it will be easier to port/code for the platform. However they may not be great games.

PS3 has online play like the PS2, people will deal with it like the have with the PS2.

586849631

I'm not sure they confirmed 100% its going be like PS2 but if it is then it will be a failure again. There is something called 'learning from mistakes'.

If the system couldn't do 1080p they wouldn't say it could.

586849631

1080p remains a fancy buzzword until they actually make it happen. For all PS3 could upscale 720p games to 1080p which will not be real 1080p. (We already know the pixel processing requirements for 1080p)

Jesus christ.

The "10 reasons to buy an XBOX 360" article was written by XBOX fanboys.

The "10 Reasons  the Revolution is better than the XBOX 360" article was written by Nintendo fanboys

This article was written by Sony fanboys.

There's so much one-sided misinformation in this thread it's redunkulous. People, read news articles giving facts about things and form your own opinion accordingly. Trying to get other people to see things your way about a decision that affects you in no way directly is useless and annoying.

I'm not sure what's worse: people who write these obviously biased articles and threads or the people who take them seriously.

586849672

Look Ridley Norfair, normal people also realise that this is pure flame bait material.

Yeah so I clear up lies and misconceptions about the PS3 and now I am a fanboy.  You sure got me there.  I guess if someone doesn't have anything negative to say about Sony then they must be a fanboy then.  I see how it is.

I also must really hate the Xbox so much to have purchased one.  I said in a thread before I like my Xbox, but I am not going to be blinded\brainwashed and declare my undying devotion to Microsoft.  Some of you and your attachment to them is rediculous.  And the fact that you need to defend the Xbox360 by spewing out misinformation and false facts about the PS3 is pretty damn sad.

586850165

So to balance out that lies, you posted this. Wow, now we know where you are coming from.

Oh and by the way, reported to mods as it has already gotten way out of control already.

Need I remind you the PS3 uses BluRay ? wich btw uses the BD+ component of the HD Movie copu protection system, this copy protection systsem could probably also be used for games.

how is the xbox360s copy protection? With live and their silent updates they could lock you out too.

Good job pulling numbers out of the air.

Hmmm good job at taking things out of context and not even reading my post(s).

Pulling number's out the air? Hmmm coming straight from the sony E3 press conference.

I never said the PS3 was designed gaming, i was talking about the PS2 in comparsion to the xbox. Not once did i state the PS3 was built for gaming.

And not all xbox games look as good as the PS2 counter parts. For example, on my 1500cm plasma tv, Burnout revenge looks quite bad, and the PS2 version of the game looks so much better.

So much for competition. Most definitely I'll be buying Revolution but unlike you I dont hope that either Microsoft or Sony burn down.

If you bothered to read my post, you would know what system I was getting.

I just hate trolls/fanboys.

I'm surprised that this topic is still open. It's just a total haven for the fanboys.

I'll buy what ever the **** I want.

As far as I'm concerned, the more of these prepubescent trolls that buy PS3s the less of them will be on X360.

If the PS3 turns out to be good, I'll buy that too. Until then Sony is just bull****ting about everything.

Pretending to be neutral doesn't work my friend. I like Microsoft products but devotion ? even when I don't intend to buy XBOX360 anytime soon ?

I am not defending XBOX360. I am sick of people defending Sony's lies & bull****. I don't think that company is acting fairly with consumers any more. Microsoft (& nintendo for that matter) never made ludicrous claims about their consoles. Sony has used smokes & mirrors at every product launch. Remember their screwed up mp3 players, recent rootkit fiasco ?

Cell SPEs are not CPU "cores". Cell has only 1 core. in fact Cell's CPU & XBOX's core are very similar, both derived from PPC (accordning to my understanding of ars's articles)

leave the RAM part, Xenos (xbox360 gpu) has 48 shaders with Unified Shader Architecture. Which gives it an edge over PS3's GPU.

If PS3 can indeed deliver on sony's claims, well & good.

But dual 1080p & 7 controllers (not practical ?) just sound stupid. There is no way PS3-cell can render 2 screens at 1920 x 1080 and still have enough power left to drive the game engine.

And Gigabit ethernet for "Fast" online play...WTF??? last time I checked even my 100 Mbps connection don't reach top throughput.

Just smoke & mirrors...plain lies.

586850271

he Cell architecture debuted in a configuration of 9 independent cores: one PowerPC Processing Element (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs).  The PPE and SPEs are obviously different, but all eight SPEs are identical to one another.
Source

SPE's are in fact cores, read the article on anandtech it's got some good info.

Any connection never reaches full throughput. Dose USB ever get near 480MBPS no, dose Wifi-G really reach 54MBPS no. Gigabit will be really use full for big LAN games, but besides that it won't do much.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
