Windows XP Pro Setup Fatal Error

Recommended Posts

Hi, first topic here.

My computer was acting sluggish, and after 3 years of random stuff loaded onto my computer, I decided to do a clean install of Windows.

So I booted with the CD in the drive, and formatted my drive, did a New Install of Windows Xp Pro, and let it install the neccessary files in the blue DOS-like screen.

After that, it took me to the Windows XP Installation screen, the one that has Collecting information, Dynamic Update, Preparing Installation, Installing Windows, and Finalizing Installation; and lists the Features of Windows XP.

Well, it says Setup will complete in 39 minutes, so I decided to leave it installing. When I return, I get a Fatal Error:

One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

"DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNANCY CHECK)"

If you are installing from a cd, there might be with the disc, try cleaning the disc or using another disc."

I've tried cleaning it with alcohol, but that did not work. What should I do? Am I going to have to get another disc?

It's your CD. I had the same problem last month when I was going to do a fresh install. The problem was the disc, it was scratched up on the back. Luckily I had already made a backup of the disc previously.

Best thing to do is rip that CD at a slow pace with Alcohol 120%. Make an image and then burn the image slowly also. Maybe at 10x? DVD's are known for "DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNANCY CHECK)" but I never had a CD that did that not matter how scratched it was. Is it a DVD or CD??
