"Operating System Not Found" +RAID

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We had a RAID 1 crash, so we rebuilt the array. But now when we boot, we have "Operating System Not Found" error. When we put the Windows 2003 CD in the drive and ran the Recovery Console, it finds our old C:\ and the C:\Windows. Tried fixmbr and fixboot C: and didn't work.

We have 2 Intel RAID controllers in the server, 1 running our Windows RAID-1 and the other running Data in RAID-5. The weird thing is, when we view the partitions on the RAID-1, it says there are none, although the data is all there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Before you want into the recovery console did you add the drivers for your RAID controller? If you look into the RAID controller itself do you see any errors? You might have a bad controller or a missing RAID controller driver. What brand of server is it?

Have Fun!!!

Generally speaking, when you use hardware RAID, the system sees the raid array as a signle logical drive. If one part of the RAID fails and you are using RAID 1 or 5, then as long as the controller can maintain the RAID, you are fine.

When you say, "Rebuilt the array", what exactly did you do? I have seen people put a new drive in a "rebuild the array" mirroring the new, empty drive over the old, full of data, drive. I really hope this is not the case!

I've since fixed it, but no, i didnt mirror it over. Recovery console detected C:\Windows and all that.

Anywhoo i think it had to do with which drive and controller was being passed to the BIOS. Thx guys
