stormchaser2010
Hello everyone, I have two servers currently running Windows 2003 Standard. One of them is the domain controller and the other is a member of the domain. I want to install exchange on the 2nd server which is joined to the domain as a member. 1. Do I have to run forestprep and domainprep on both servers or just the domain controller? 2. Do I have to install the exchange server on the domain controller as well or can I just install it on the 2nd one? 3. Are there any other modifications I need to make to the domain controller besides forestprep and domainprep? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. MagicMan
1. You can run forestprep and domainprep on any server in the domain - it is the Active Directory Schema that is modified and not a specific server. 2. DO NOT install Exchange on a DC. It is not recommended or supported (AFAIK) by Microsoft. 3. As long as DNS is functioning correctly on the DC, everything should be fine. Hey, thanks for the info. i'm still a little fuzzy though on the forestprep and the domainprep, do I just run it on the domain server and not the member server? I'm sorry for not getting it, I just want to do it right the first time. Domain/Forest prep modify the Active Directory Schema so it is the actual database that is modified and not any actual physical server. Does that make more sense?
