DeviantArt Alternative?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys : )!

Well I'm starting to get annoyed, by the fact that on dA 70-80%+ of it's content is complete crap o_O! So I was wondering any alternative websites like it? To spread exposure of photography / poetry etc.

I'll openly admit my stuff isn't 'pro' in anyway shape or form, but I try my best - and it just annoys me reading some 12 year olds poem / song about suicide and wanting to slit their wrists yada yada yada yada.

So any alternatives?! I was thinking of setting up a wordpress journal, and just submitting stuff there - but i'm not sure if that's against the TOS or something :ermm:

Thanks!

Ian.

DA will be the best one for quite a while, just because to you some is "crap" doesn't mean the same to others, it's just your opinion

But it is crap. There are some good themes and icons, but no art at all, just half-assed photoshop drawings, illustrations, over-edited photos and emo girls.

Opinions are made when you dont posses enough knowledge to support your claims. I do have the theorical knowledge to evaluate a visual production and determine if its a viable art form or not.

You need to re-evaluate the content then. There a many very accomplished artists on deviantart, with astounding works in there gallery.

If someone shows me something exceptional there I'll glady revaluate. However, one good piece does not make it for the entire database.

I knew one celebrity photographer that posted in DA, he was great, but was among the few ones. In the other hand you have people like Lara Faire that are quite mediocre, but people love her because the same reasons people love Justin Bieber.

There are some brilliant artists on dA you just have to look for them.

yes i know most of the work there is not professional. But you know about quality and quantity.. But there still is alot of good work there.

Go to my page .. and check out my favorites. i have favorited some great painting and stuff.. u can then mark some artists and look for their other work.

I know your profile and I will say two things:

1.- You are a phenomenal themer. I would use your themes as default if I didnt use Ubuntu.

2.- That why I'm talking about. Deviant art is great for customizations. But thats it, there are some capable artists, but nothing impressive. I see many people that can create life-like illustrations, for example, but that's not enough to make a piece of art, not in these times.

I don't really browse the photography there, but the drawing/painting scene there seems really strong. One of my favourites being Denis Peterson who is one of the prominent & premier photo/hyper-realists in NYC. Through his favourites you can check quite a community of talented artists.

i agree with you on that. I can create illustrations aswell. But mainly they are private so i dont put them on dA.. and its not that hard to make them lifelife.. it just takes alot of time. But what is hard is to make it a piece of art!.. something that has character... But there are many such pieces on dA.. leme link a few
