DO NOT USE FRONTPAGE!

dreamweaver is okay, but the only way you can get anything decent out of it is by using code view.

There are NO wysiwygs out atm that produce valid, tidy XHTML+CSS code without javascript for rollovers, etc. learn to code if you want to design websites.

IMO, the easiest to use app for designers (meaning people more graphically inclined than programming inclined), and the one that keeps getting better and better as far as features implemented, is Adobe GoLive, which is not on your list.

Just my opinion, and of course Dreamweaver is still the number one choice.

But if you are familiar with the Adobe apps and interface used in them, I do suggest giving GoLive a try, especially if you are a beginner.

To be quite frank with you a true professional designer isn't going to use any of those. Although, I would pick Dreamweaver MX out of all of those choices. I completely won't even bother looking at Frontpage. The javascript libraries 'assume' that your users are only going to be using Internet Explorer (Go figure it's Microsoft) and have IE specific Javascript libraries. On top of that, they are old crippled javascript libraries at best.

I have tried Dreamweaver but always go back to hand-crafting my XHTML/CSS. I can't believe some people use Notepad for this! Where is the automatic indenting, syntax highlighting, nice easy-on-the-eyes dark backgrounds, multiple buffers, side-by-side editing of multiple files? Try GVIM it's awesome.

this thread seems to be veering of topic slightly but...ah well.

As other people have said it's probably best not to use Frontpage. If you want a free WYSIWYG editor then try NVU or Eclipse, I haven't used them myself but i hear they're good. as for paid solutions, dreamweaver seems popular. having said that, i don't use WYSIWYGs.

It depends what you are making websites for. If you want to learn as much as you can and become a professional webdesigner then it would be a very good idea to learn how to write code (XHTML,CSS) and, later perhaps, probably a server side language like PHP. There are a million text editors out there for writing code. You can use notepad which comes with windows or there's notepad2, notepad++,tswebeditor,pspad editor...and then you'll want something to do graphics, I use GIMP because it's free, photshop is probably better but is rather pricey. But if you've got something you already do graphics with, I'd stick with that for the moment.

If you are making websites for another reason, to show off your stamp collection (or something) and you're only going to make one in the next 5 years and don't want to take the time to learn code then use NVU or eclipse.

I know that wasn't what you asked originally, but it seems you could do with some guidence.

Because I personally like to code to standards. XHTML standards that even with the easiness of the program to code websites it still puts useless extras in your code.

      ChromeOS M137 goes stable, bringing new Face Control policy and more by David Uzondu Google has brought ChromeOS M137 to the stable channel, and it includes a few focused updates for users and IT admins. A key change is a new policy for managing big groups of Chromebooks. The face control accessibility tool, which Google also updated back in ChromeOS M135, now gets a vital control for managers. A new policy called FaceGazeEnabled lets them switch the feature on or off across a whole school or company. The update also brings a new audio feature called crosstalk cancellation. It aims to create a better sound experience using just the Chromebook's built-in speakers. The software processes audio to make it seem like it is surrounding your head, not just coming from two small points. This tries to copy the feel of a surround sound system or good headphones. Any audio gets a boost, but you will notice it most when watching movies or playing games with directional sound. More accessibility tools have arrived, too. ChromeVox now has a direct keyboard shortcut, Search + O + C, that displays spoken text as braille captions on a connected display. For the poor souls in IT, troubleshooting got a little less painful as well. A new event-based log collection system, when enabled by an admin, will automatically upload relevant logs when something specific fails, like an OS crash or a botched update. Instead of digging through mountains of data, administrators get targeted reports sent straight to them. Here's how to enable it: Turn on the Device system log upload setting. Turn on OS update status reporting—For the Report device OS information setting, select OS update status. Turn on device telemetry reporting on crash information—For the Report device telemetry setting, select Crash information. Google also keeps things sane by limiting these targeted uploads to just twice a day per device. As usual, the update is rolling out slowly. If you do not see ChromeOS M137 for your machine yet, just be patient. This phased release lets Google find and address any issues before the update gets to everyone.

      Totally different vehicles. Uber has partnered with Waymo for level 5 autonomous vehicles. Waymo has completed 10 million trips and to date, there have been 696 accidents in 4 years and of those 16 of them appear to have been due to an error by the car. In total airbags have only been deployed 38 times. The technology should always be under review and continued to be improved on, but this is a totally different animal to Tesla FSD PS. no I don't work for them etc. I am an analyst for a market intelligence firm and we have a lot of interest from clients looking at the connected car space for advertising etc. so I have studied them

      But it's not full self driving it's level 2 autonomy. Audi, BMW and Mercedes all have level 3 and make far less noise about it

      Edge for Business gets secure password deployment for organizations by Paul Hill Microsoft Edge for Business now offers organizations secure password deployments as a generally available feature, the Redmond giant said. Instead of users sharing passwords on sticky notes or via email to access certain websites or tools, admins can deploy encrypted shared passwords to specific users within their organization. When a user receives a password, it is stored in their Edge password manager and can be used to log into websites seamlessly using autofill. Microsoft has made this enterprise-grade solution available to customers at no additional cost. How it works and the user experience Administrators have to manage the feature via the Microsoft Edge management service within the Microsoft 365 admin center. From there, they can add, update, and revoke credentials for specific user groups through configuration policies. Once an admin has set it up and shared passwords with users, the users will see the passwords in their Edge password manager and can be used with autofill on corresponding websites. The passwords are tied to work profiles in Edge on managed Windows devices to limit their misuse. Further boosting security, the shared passwords cannot actually be viewed, edited, or deleted (unless the website allows), or exported from the password manager. This is a good addition for security because if an unauthorized user gains physical access to the computer, they cannot learn what the password is. Administrators reading this do need to be aware of an important caveat related to developer tools. A motivated user who wants to reveal the passwords can do so by digging into the developer tools, for this reason, you should consider restricting access to the developer tools by configuring the DeveloperToolsAvailability policy. The underlying security and encryption Microsoft’s new secure passwords feature has been built using the Information Protection SDK. The passwords are encrypted and the encryption is tied to Entra identities which lets organizations enforce them without manual key management. The decryption of the passwords takes place at runtime using the same SDK, validating the user’s identity. Availability and getting started Secure password deployment is available through the Edge management service in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Once in the admin center, you should choose an existing configuration policy or create a new one. Inside the policy, go to the Customization Settings tab and then to the Secure password deployment page. To use this feature you must have a Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3, or E5 subscription.
