I have a Zodiac 2 that has PalmOS 5 on it. You'll want Agendus for organiser-related stuff. Much better than the built-in software, in my opinion. Adds many great and important features. I also tried Datebk, but it just doesn't cut it for me.

The TX is the best deal on the market, especially the you can get a wireless keyboard for free.

MegaLauncher is the one app I recommend for all Palm users. It's a launcher, file manager, compression tulity, and backup utility in one. http://www.megasoft2000.com/

Agendus 10 is the one app I recommend for all business users. http://www.iambic.com/

Astraware is the by far the best games developer. They have Bejeweled 2. You can easily play this game for 30-40 hours. They have dozens of top games.

PalmGear.com has nearly every Palm app ever created. http://www.palmgear.com/

I'm going to throw another vote in for the Palm T|X (unless you want a cell phone hybrid in which case a Treo will work out nice but make sure you wait for the new models to be released before buying one).

I have a T|X and I must say it's a really nice PDA. Having both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is really nice and the price is very nice. I wrote a review here on Neowin about the T|X which is located here...

Also since you mentioned having a Mac I'm going to make another recommendation to you called the Missing Sync...

http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php

Even though the T|X comes with software to sync with a Mac the Missing Sync allows you to sync with Apple's own PIM programs (iCal, Address book, and other programs) and supports features iSync doesn't (one thing iSync doesn't handle is categories).

It does but only to a limited extent. It allows you to sync Windows Mobile 2003SE and lower (no Windows Mobile 5 support as of right now) devices with iCal and Address book, mount the device as a drive, and hook the device up to iTunes. You can also install .cab files on the device but you can't install any software that is in .exe form which is a pretty big limitation being that most Windows Mobile software is distributed in that way (but then again this isn't a Missing Sync limitation but a limitation of software being distributed via Windows Installer files).

Also the iCal and Address book syncing doesn't support categories yet.

The Palm OS version of Missing Sync allows you to use HotSync condiuts as well so you can use it to syncronize Palm applications with your Mac whereas Windows Mobile devices don't have anything like condiuts and require ActiveSync so the Windows Mobile version of Missing Sync won't be able to syncronize any programs with any desktop software that you may have (granted the said software would need a Mac version as well).

It's a Palm PDA with phone functions. The screen resolution is "only" 320 x 320. The Treo 700P will be released this spring. It will add high-speed network access and perhaps Wi-Fi. You're much better off with the TX, IMHO.

It's going to replace my Vario and Jam, so i don't have a phone anymore.

And i like pda functions and phone in 1 device.

I just saw the 700w device, Is the 700p the same model device with Palm OS on it?

If so, I hope it's going to look like this:

My wishlist:

Wifi

Palm OS 6 Cobalt

Built-in antenna

Built-in GPS

Higher resolution

Too bad most of those things ain't gonna happen...

Yes it's the same hardware just with Palm OS on it.

Well I can tell you Cobalt won't be happening anytime soon. It really is sad that nobody decided to put Cobalt on any devices, it would have been nice to use. Oh well hopefully PalmLinux will be released soon.

That's a very strange comparison. It's like saying someone should get a PDA instead of a phone :s

A PDA is very useful when someone wants to make a call...

If you ONLY want a PDA then get something like the TX or E2 or Lifedrive. If you want a PDA and phone in one device then get a Treo 650.

The Treo 700w is the only new Treo device that Palm announced. The 700p is nothing more but a rumour. PalmOS 6 cobalt for example is DEAD (Sorry Riangelo-D, no Cobalt :(), it will be replaced with the new PalmOS that uses the Linux kernel. That OS will be out somewhere in 2007. So if there is a 700p it will run something like PalmOS 5.4.9 (Garnet).

Palm however announced that there will be 4 new Treo models in 2006. The 700w will be one of them and it will be the first Palm device that doesn't run PalmOS (it runs Windows Mobile 5, hence the name 700w).

The 700w will look simular to the 650 only less rounded but more squared. So the "ugly" antenna is still there.

I find the Treo 650 antenna very useful for pulling out the Treo though and it gives it some soul :p

If you want to get a PDA with phone functionality right now then buy the 650. If you want to wait, then wait for next year when 4 new Treo models will be released.

Great places for info on the Treo's:

Only the crappy CDMA versions with software from the provider. Every treo 650 that has custom build provider software on it is unstable. The unlocked GSM version on the other hand is very very stable.

With the newest update there are a lot of things that get fixed and one of them is stability.

All in all, you need to do some pretty weird stuff to get the treo 650 to crash and installing incompatible software is one of them.

The 700p is still a rumour :(

Just wait till februari, most people think that around that time some new treo will be announced, but don't count too much on it.

I got one!!! An Treo 650.

with treo headset, tomtom navigator + GPS and car holder

love it already :D

the 700p takes to long and it looks like it's going to be the same as the 650 with EVDO wich i don't need because we don't have that in Holland...

And i love the screen (an picture on the 320*320 screen = :| Wow )

it's my understanding that palm is slowly becoming obselete, noted by the treos being replaced with windows mobile trios. any reason in particular you want to go with palm?

"The PalmOS ain't going nowhere". One reason why they made a Windows-based Treo was so many IT departments have been brainwashed into thinking that all Windows software is better. Take the Treo 700W for example, the reviews say that the hardware is great, but it's the OS that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. My sister bought a PocketPC for work since the IT dept. told her that Palms wouldn't work on their Wi-Fi network. Yeah, right. She hates it.
