Alright. I just installed Windows 2000 Advanced Server and installed SP3. I am having a problem with playing games. Whenever I try to start them up, it either freezes or the game is all messed up (ie color boxes and stuff). I have an AMD Athlon @ 1.4Ghz and a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 with latest drivers. If you need more info, just post the question. Please help!

server isn't designed to play games, thats why its called "SERVER"

Windows 2000 Pro and Windows 2000 Advanced Server use exactly same binary the only difference is a couple of registry settings which can be changed by using NTSwitch so theres no disadvantage of using Win 2k Adv Server over Pro on a workstation they just created "seperate versions" so they can charge big corporations more money for what is essentially the same product.

Ok I think I found out my problem I'm hoping to God someone can help me. I know this is not good but I don't know how to change it :ermm: I have my video card, my sound card, my ethernet card, and 2 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controllers on the same IRQ (IRQ #11) I was wondering if anyone could lean me in the right direction to help me change those IRQ's!

same irq? what? how can you have all taht installed on one irq? why don't you just format and do a clean installation and reinstall all the drivers. Or, if you don't want to do that, go into hardware profile, delete all the current hardware you just said, and use a regcleaner [i recommend jv power tool, www.jv16.org] and manually look through the registry and delete the left over keys of the current drivers, then reboot, and windows should detect the hardware in its correct irq. I don't know how you can get all this mess into 1 irq.

That's normal. IRQ sharing. :) my Graphics Card, Modem and Soundcard are all on IRQ 09 for instance.

    • I mean, it's fairly self explanatory isn't it? It's part of the reason Apple don't include all features on all supported devices with new iOS releases (another reason is probably a subtle nudge to upgrade sooner), but there's a balance between the remaining features that are added and the impact on performance/battery life on those older devices. There certainly have been times when devices have really received a practical (performance/battery life) quality of life improvement via a software update, but like absolutely every damn app update log out there currently, "Performance and Security improvements" basically mean nothing of real world impacts these days. Just what I've seen of this new interface, the rendering of that glass effect would surely be more complex and intensive than the previous transparency effects, there's no way they couldn't be more efficient. It's probably quite a small impact, otherwise they wouldn't be releasing it, but it all has an impact. Even Microsoft backtracked from Acrylic to Mica material, which is prerendered blur of the wallpaper. All the Acrylic material is rendered live, so has a greater impact, hence why windows use the newer, lower impact Mica material as their base material.
    • This is the reason Microsoft stepped away from Aero for a more subtler transparency. Apple I believe had the perfect balance of transparency and readability, but not with this redesign in its current form. As for people who believe Windows has an 8-bit interface, well, at least you can read stuff.
    • who ever thought this looked good needs to rethink their design credentials.....
    • There's a few here upset Kamala Harris never got the Presidency! lol....
    • Yeah, he identified a whole lot of wasteful spending of US taxpayer money. What's wrong with that? Nothing, unless you had your fingers in the pie of course.
