Coach Beamer to suspend Marcus Vick Indefinately

Report: Hokies intend to suspend Vick

Virginia Tech will discipline Marcus Vick for his behavior in the Hokies' bowl game, with an announcement of the penalty possibly coming Monday.

The junior quarterback will be suspended for an undetermined number of games next season if he returns to school, The Hampton Roads (Va.) Daily Press reported, citing two athletic department officials.

Vick stepped on Elvis Dumervil's calf after the Louisville defensive end tackled Vick on Monday during the first half of the Toyota Gator Bowl. Vick was not penalized, but school officials later apologized for the play.

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer is scheduled to meet with Vick and his mother, Brenda Boddie, on Thursday to outline the player's options.

"Before a final decision is made, we've got to talk to the young man," Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver told The Roanoke (Va.) Times.

Weaver already has talked to school president Charles Steger and Beamer about the play.

"I suspect that [the decision] will rest with me," Weaver told the Times. "At this juncture, all three of us are on the same page. ... We're going to deal with it in what we think is an appropriate manner, and one that's fair and firm."

Vick was not penalized but was rebuked at halftime of the Gator Bowl by quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, who said he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup.

Vick said later it was "an accidental play, and football is football." He also said he had apologized to Dumervil. Dumervil said no apology had been offered.

"A no-character individual," Dumervil said after the game.

Marcus Vick, eluding a Louisville defender in the Gator Bowl, stepped on the leg of another Cardinal player who tackled him in the first half.

Vick threw two touchdown passes and led a 22-point, fourth-quarter rally for the No. 12 Hokies, who beat the No. 15 Cardinals 35-24.

Rogers, who has mentored Vick in his on-field and off-field behavior, was livid with his quarterback, chewing him out at halftime, and after the game.

"There's no reason for that in the game," Rogers said. "It's flat-out embarrassing. I don't coach that way, and I don't expect him to play that way."

The incident is the latest trouble for Vick since he elected to follow his brother, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, to Virginia Tech. The elder Vick led the Hokies to the 1999 national championship game and was the first pick of the 2001 draft.

Marcus Vick played in 11 games as a backup in his freshman year, then was suspended from school last season after he was arrested, along with teammates Mike Imoh and Brenden Hill, for giving alcohol to 14- and 15-year-old girls. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge.

The younger Vick also later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession after a police stop in July 2004.

In Vick's absence, the Hokies won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in their first year in the league, then lost 16-13 to No. 3 Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Local news here in Roanoke and Blackburg is reporting that Marcus has the following options:

1) Accept the suspension (please leave our program)

2) Transfer to a 1-AA college (that would be stupid)

3) Enter the draft (good luck)

I wish VT would say enough is enough and kick him off the team...

Looks like the Roanoke Times is set to report that Marcus Vick has been cited for driving on a suspended license too...

Vick was charged with driving with a suspended license on Dec. 17

Updated: 3:03 PM

The Roanoke Times

Virginia Tech football star Marcus Vick was pulled for speeding Dec. 17 in Hampton and issued summonses for speeding and driving with a suspended license, authorities said today.

Police stopped the sport utility vehicle Vick was driving sometime after 2 a.m. in the 700 block of Settlers Landing Road, said Hampton police Cpl. James West.

Vick was driving 38 mph in a 25-mph zone, according to online court records.

The 21-year-old quarterback was not taken into custody. ?There was nothing aggravated about it,? West said. ?He wasn?t driving recklessly.?

One of two other men in the vehicle drove after the stop, West said.

Vick, the brother of NFL star quarterback and Virginia Tech alum Michael Vick, has a history of on- and off-the-field troubles.

The most recent occurred in Monday?s Gator Bowl, when Vick appeared to deliberately stomp on the leg of University of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil. Vick was not penalized on the play because official didn?t see it. However, television crews covering the game for NBC captured the incident on tape and the scene has received numerous national replays.

Vick?s previous troubles include a one-game suspension in 2003 for an unspecified violation of team rules, and a suspension for the entire 2004 season. The season-long suspension came two months after Vick was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and on the day he pleaded guilty to reckless driving and possession of marijuana. In October, Vick flashed his middle finger to West Virginia fans during Tech?s win in Morgantown.

Well I think VT is doing a good thing by punishing his behavior.

And of course I say the same thing about Claude Wroten, a defensive tackle at LSU who just got arrested on drug charges. If he weren't already a departing senior, they should kick him off the team immediately.

In one of the papers from his hometown, they have the same article as quoted before in the thread, and further on down in the article, it mentioned the stipulation from his previous suspension (which was brought on by a another speeding violation) that he would be suspended indefinitely.

so I say stick a fork in him.

when he was convicted of getting 14 & 15 year old girls drunk, did they ever prove if he had sex with them or not?

University President Charles Steger Statement on Marcus Vick

January 6, 2006

Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been permanently dismissed from the Hokie football program due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play.

Virginia Tech had suspended Vick in 2003. The university provided one last opportunity for Vick to become a citizen of the university and re-admitted him in January 2004, with the proviso that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team.

Head Football Coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother this afternoon and informed the quarterback and his family of the University's decision. His recent actions are unfortunate and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

****

Said Coach Frank Beamer, "I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending. We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best."

I'd say he is lucky to get drafted at all...Maybe in the last round or so...

He has been in trouble numerous times, he isn't a good leader (accoring to VaTech players), he only has one season as a starter under his belt, the one season he HAS started he really wasn't all that great. What a waste of a talent. He expects everything to be given to him and he has never had to answer to anyone until now...

Now its time for me to design a new sig

Probably 5th round or later. I think he is a better pocket thrower than his brother, however, he hasn't really done anything great. I've never liked him from the start though, so I'm biased. I hope he doesn't make any NFL team, people like him need to learn their lesson once in a while. He got away with that crap he did 2 years ago in the off-season.

And somehow, I bet when he got the news Tech was kicking him off the team, he just said "Oh well, I'm going to the draft." No remorse at all.

The problem is that these college players/stars think that their abilities and achievements on the field will carry them any where and that they are immune to the law just because they develop these inflated ego's. Eventually all schools have trouble players such as Maurice Clarett - Ohio St. /, Nebraska, Miami, FSU, just to name a few in the last few years.

when he was convicted of getting 14 & 15 year old girls drunk, did they ever prove if he had sex with them or not?

I'm pretty sure they did, but don't quote me on that.

As for Vick being kicked off the team. (Y) Now that the school did something good, I'll start supporting them!

Well I think VT is doing a good thing by punishing his behavior.

And of course I say the same thing about Claude Wroten, a defensive tackle at LSU who just got arrested on drug charges. If he weren't already a departing senior, they should kick him off the team immediately.

I think Vick should declare for the draft, although who wants to draft a player with that kind of baggage?

It is sad to hear that about Claude, he was a great Tiger, that is going to cost him a few million $$$.

Why would anyone with the amount of talent (and potential to make a rediculous amount of money!!!) put theirself in these kinds of situations is beyond me

Remember good ol' Cecil 'The Diesel' Collins? - That has to be the biggest waste of talent I have ever seen!!!

Yeah considering the miserable failure the Broncos had by taking a chance on Clarett I think other teams will become more wary of drafting guys with obviously shady characters who have had more than enough chances to change for the better and have continually failed to do so. That stunt he pulled in the game was so bush-league. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Something like that can cause serious injury and shows a complete lack of class. With all the off-the-field crap you could still say once it got to gametime he was a fine player. But now he even tarnished his on-field image. I hope no one is ludicrous enough to draft him.

Transfer to a 1-AA college (that would be stupid)

that is the only option but cant he just transfer to a 1 A college be cause he will lost all scalorship because he cant play with VT?i dont know what is the rule of it, can someone clare it up for me.

but no NFL team will take him, he is to much of a risk in 2 ways. the way he plays, he needs more time at this level or a lower level of college football. and out side of the games. he will need to go 1-AA is his only opption. if he has a good year then more NFL teams will look at him.

lol.

And I think you guys are wrong thinking that no team will Draft him. The NFL draft is quite long, and SOMEONE will draft him, I guarantee it.

He may not go first round, but, when you are in the 9th or 10th round?

Actually, I predect that some team will make a "shocker" and draft him in the first round.

will I dont think he would do bad, C'mon his brother makes millions

Nice way to look at it. So now that Carson Palmer is making millions, his little brother from UTEP will be good because Carson is making that much money. Correct?

    • Here is the new Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper in high resolution by Taras Buria Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its brand-new high-end laptop powered by NVIDIA's brand-new RTX Spark processor. As usual, Microsoft gives each new device a unique wallpaper, and the Surface Laptop Ultra is no exception. While the device is not publicly available yet, somebody has already extracted its wallpaper, giving everyone a chance to get a piece of the upcoming laptop in its full-resolution glory. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a very dark, abstract wallpaper that resembles the stock wallpapers in Windows Server, albeit with much less color. Having this dark, grim wallpaper highlights the laptop's mini-LED display and its ability to cut off parts of the screen's backlight to achieve OLED-like black levels. However, if you also like light wallpapers, we made a white version by simply inverting its colors. You can download both wallpapers below (click the image, right-click it, and select "Save as"): The Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to launch later this year. Microsoft is not revealing full details yet, including the price. However, Microsoft confirmed up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and RTX 5070-level of GPU performance. The heart of the laptop has up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Additionally, Microsoft and NVIDIA boast high CPU efficiency for all-day battery life. As for the display, it is a 15-inch mini-LED display with a pixel density of 262 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Of course, not everyone needs this amount of power, and certainly not everyone can afford it. For those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is also preparing the next-generation Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Weeks ahead of the announcement, details about this computer were leaked by a retailer. Do you like the Surface Laptop Ultra's stock wallpaper? Share your thoughts in the comments. • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.

    • BTW DXVK is also available on Windows and offers similar benefits like on Linux when it comes to performance, at least in some titles. The Raceroom racing sim for example even offers DXVK as one of its officially supported options and it can achieve ridiculous improvements in certain situations, like quite literally doubling (or more) the framerates
