Can i use a generic driver to clear the problem?

Recommended Posts

I have just formatted a computer that was given to me and i don't the drivers....

i have managed to work out and locate the drivers for the Video card, but i still have 2 Warning messages in device manaager indicating that

PCI Multimedia Audio Device

PCI Multimedia Communication Devices need drivers

The board is a MS6191 board running windows 98

is there a generic driver or two that will eradicate these messages please, if so can you point me in the direction

Cheers

Andy

Get SiSoft Sandra or Everest.

They'll tell you what the hardware is so you can find the drivers ( usually from driverguide.com )

If the hardware is on-board, you can also go to driverguide.com and search for the full set of drivers

for that particular chipset.

I'm really surprised though that there isn't a way to fully automate the driver process. Have every piece of hardware of some 'type' have an ID number of some sort ( kinda like a MAC address except the same model cards would all have the same ID ) and then have some sort of driver database that can access the driver based on this 'ID' number and install the driver. It ****es me off that it's so hard to find drivers for some pieces of hardware. It should be automatic.

By the model number it appears to be an MSI board manufactured for OEM use, in an HP or Packard Bell computer, something like that. Get the model number of the actual computer and you can probably find the driver you're looking for. Or, open up the computer and see what sound card/modem/ethernet card is installed.

Wow, that's old school. A Slot 1 processor, and even an AMD chipset! The integrated audio runs on the PCI bus according to the specs, so that audio driver should do the trick. I have no idea about the "PCI Multimedia Communication Devices" though.
