AutoPatcher 2000 January 2006

Recommended Posts

download the december release, and run the 'installer' (not the main program), then download the jan update, and run the 'installer'.

You'll now have an up-to-date copy of AutoPatcher 'installed' locally to your heard drive, run the program once (no need to install anything) to extract the modules, and then burn this AutoPatcher directory onto CD. Job done.

Thanks M2Ys4U.

I have downloaded :

- AutoPatcher_2000_Dec05_ENU_Full.exe

- AutoPatcher_2000_Jan06_ENU_Update.exe

I have runned the 1st one.

Then the 2nd one.

Is it correct ?

But I re-installed V 5.01.0035 of autopatcher.exe because of some bugs...

Then I didnt find the "installer" that you talked about : where is it ? What to do ?

So, I just runned once autopatcher.exe : it extracted some modules, and asked me to install, but I exited.

Is it correct ?

So, after that, I dont know if I have on my folder, all the full dec 05 + jan 06 update packages extracted or not.

Could you tell me ?

So now, could I rename the folder "autopather" as "Setup", and burn it onto a cd-rom ?

And I could use this cd to launch autopather.exe from the cd, without the need to copy it on the disk, or to re-install again autopather on my pc, and it will upgrade full my pc, from dec05 + jan06 ?

Could you confimg me that ?

Thanks.

What else should I do that I may have missed ?

And, also, what date for next release in february ?

Frederic Laroche.

ERRATUM :

You may have noticed that I did all what I mentionned before in my previous post for XPSP2 !

But, anyway, I will do the same for 2000SP4 !

So, just tell me if my procedures are correct for XPSP2, and I will do the same for 2000SP4.

Thanks.

Oh, one more thing :

I am downloading and installing and extracting the files under Win98, for autopatcher XPSP2 or 2000SP4 :

Is there any pb about that ?

Or should I do everything under the corresponding OS :

- Patchs XPSP2 under XPSP2 ?

- Patchs 2000SP4 under 2000SP4 ?

Thanks.

Bye.

@bestofcomputer

the procedure is as follows:

1) download release(s)

2) *install* the releases. all this really does is extract and decompress the files. (plus create desktop icons and an uninstaller).

note, you should delete older full/lite releases before *installing* new ones. this doesnt apply to update releases which should be installed on top.

also note that you can install the xp, 2k, and 2k3 releases on top of each other, and this can save space by over writing duplicate files and modules (eg. 16MB sunjava)

3) to run autopatcher and install patches/components/addons/tweaks on the current machine, use the desktop icon, or run autopatcher.exe in the folder you *installed* it to (default = c:\program files\autopatcher).

to copy to removable media (cd/dvd/flash/etc) just copy everything in the folder you *installed* it to, to the media. note you dont need to copy uninstall.exe.

notes:

1) yes, you can rename the folder you installed autopatcher to to anything you like.

2) M2Ys4U mentioned running autopatcher once up to the selection page before copying to media. if you have downloaded anything from the stand-alone modules section, you will notice they come as .amp files. an .amp file is basically just a renamed .zip file which contains a modules files. running autopatcher as described has the same effect as the module installer, the standalone module .amp file will be unpacked and so will be usable. .amp files cannot be unpacked on a cd because they are read only.

however, the modules in the main releases are already unpacked, and so for most people, i don't think theres any point in doing it, and may add confusion.

4) yes, there seems to be a problem with autopatcher.exe v5.1.0.36 on windows 2000, you should use v5.1.0.35 for now, you can just simple replace that file.

5) i shouldnt think there would be a problem unpacking the releases on win98.
