I suspect you may have a logonUI modified by something else - did the GANT pack include a modified logonui? The modification the Tango patcher does to logonui.exe only works on a normal WinXP logonui.exe file. If that's the case, restore that file, and let the reloader do its work. If you don't have access to a backup copy of it, and want the previous version back, use the uninstaller to uninstall just that component.
a feww icon is not changed
It's normal for those icons not to be modified - the version of the Tango patcher you're using doesn't touch them; eventually, they might be supported, but that depends on how lazy I am.

What?
..., and spin a new release of STTP:XP that I've been meaning to in a bit. Won't say "next few days" since I have a history of way overpromising on that account, but it's coming. Minor stuff, really - updates to GIT2 and Tangerine, and more one-shots than just my mouse - but enough to be worth putting out.

Any news on this, Vert? I'm fed up with the Vista icon pack I've used for the last few weeks and want to go back to TANGO. If the new version is imminent I would wait for that.

I'd say tomorrow. I finished up the new documentation last night, so all I need to do now is get OpenOffice working again (2.2.1 breaks things again, yay!). I'd actually have it tomorrow night probably, but I'll upload it at work, where I have a fast connection.

  1. Ask stuff once, ask right. If you have to take extra time to put something in words clearly and concisely, do it - save it in a text file and come back to it later - language is useless if it's not used in a precise and specific manner.
  2. I check the thread when I check the thread, asking more than once just confuses the hell out of me, and annoys everybody else. I sleep while you're posting, so it's not like it would do any good anyways. If I find somebody standing over my bed screaming at me to wake up and fix their Tango, I'm going to explore the nukular option...
  3. Yep, that's probably why your logon screen is breaking. The normal XP logon screen is calling for a certain image, which doesn't exist in the Gant version of the logonui.exe file; the Tango version inherits the use of that image. On getting your original LogonUI.exe: Grab your Windows CD, and google for instructions on using the "extract" command.
  4. You can't make high-resolution bootscreens. Windows just doesn't support that. 640x480x4bpp is really as good as it gets.
  5. You can't just convert icons of one size to ICOs. You either have to only use the one size you have, or resize them into fuzzy blobs, which breaks Tango's guidelines. Some of those icons look neat, though, got a source for 'em? The source material might have the normal array of sizes. I'd use something like @icon sushi to convert them, but it needs source images - there is no "isolate and magnify" command.

Strictly speaking that is not true, One of the versions of B??f contained a lovely little console program called png2ico with instruction on how to use it. All you need is a png file larger than 128x128.

Place the png(s) to be converted into a subfolder called thepngs and run the batch script. You get a single icon per png containing all of the sizes specified in the batch script. Of course, the batch files can be edited to select icon size ranges and color depth, and the subfolder can be named changed. I use this program all of the time to create 32bit icons and it does a fairly good job of resizing without distortion.

I'm attaching it with the readmes and the batch scripts that I use.

png2ico.zip

Yeah, it works within a range, but not at the lower sizes that icons normally use - 16x16 through 32x32.

Yeah, I know, trying to get any Windows-customization people to care about the Tango guidelines for their Tangoing is a lost cause, and just makes me look anal... but it's my lot in life :/

I don't find that the case, the icons I've created loss some details at the small ranges, but then how much detail can you back into 256 to 1024 pixels?

Anyway, here is an icon I created for myself for Halloween, it's not strictly tango, but...

wizardpumpkin.ico

^ That's how much. It's not just detail - it's also clarity, and sharpness.

Those fuzzy blobs were made from the original 48x48 vector - it loses a bit more pixel-resizing.

Point taken, I accept your argument. Though I generally have no problem with the icons I create, for myself, with Png2Ico, for a professionally finished look, it is not the best tool.

I think RkohhH is using English, though not normal written English, but the Cell Phone Text Speak dialect.

i agree i don't write normal english i will use short words instead of full words no punctuation is used thats why these guys thinging that this is not the english any way come to the point

vertigosity : On getting your original LogonUI.exe: Grab your Windows CD, and google for instructions on using the "extract" command.

RkohhH : bro i will grab the original logonui.exe file from anyother computer and replace with mine modieifed logonui.exe after

replacement. I will restart my Computer after retsrat the default windows xp logon is set all error are gone Then i will

run ur patch and after patching then i will restart the computer but after that nothing happen only the default screen is

come again bro one thing that i want to tell u that there are four types of file save in my windows like :

logonui.exe (Logon screen file) ,

logonui.backup (i know this the backup file ),

logonui.exe.manifest (Don't Know)

logonuiX (logonstudio is installl in my pc i thing thats why this file is come but i will remove that software form my pc )

Anyone,

On the 2600-7.08 front, I rewrote the OpenOffice detection code. The code looks cooler, and it actually works now... at least until 2.2.2 comes out. I'll poke around to see if there's any last minute stuff I want to finish up, I'll spin a finished build, and upload it sometime tomorrow. Anybody who has trouble... well, you're still gonna have it.

Edited by vertigosity

2600-7.08 is out.

Changes:

Add support for the new Windows Update client, more of IE7, OpenOffice (again). Added a few more one-shot mods (now called mini-mods). Synced up with recent major upstream updates to GIT2 and Tangerine (Gutsy Gibbon), as well as a tweak or two to Tango. New CHM-based documentation.

Now, back to work on uselessly next-gen patcher tech, and Vista!
