If people want different colors etc they can do that themselfs. I cant make 20 different version for everyone just because they dont like a color. And people can use mods for personal use only. It's been that way since LE 1.

You know that's not true. That was a policy adopted since LE5.

It seems that on every page of this thread, the whole mod issue is brought up. At least if it's not something about orange or shellstyles. I'll try and reiterate what was posted a while back regarding the mod issue. I just happened to have read it. It's also linked to in the first post.

Mods are not allowed because not only does it degrade the original themer's work but it makes things very confusing for everyone.

Suppose an artist painted an incredibly detailed and stunning bowl of fruit. The artist is very proud of this painting so he takes it to the local gallery to let everyone see. When he gets there, all the visitors claim that the painting is nice but "isn't perfect" and needs some changes. The artist is hurt because he spent a lot of time working on this particular painting but doesn't think too much about it and goes home. When he returns to the gallery the next day, he notices that there are "duplicates" of his painting hanging all over the walls. Each painting was exactly the same but had some very VERY small changes such as the banana being turned a different way or instead of red grapes, there were green grapes.

Now how would you feel if you walked into that gallery with no knowledge of what happened or which painting was the original or who painted that original? It would be confusing, yes? The point of the no-mod policy is to try to prevent this exact thing from happening. If there were 700 mods of Luna Element and every mod just had a very small change not only does it really degrade the value of the original theme (and **** off or hurt the original themer) but it will confuse the common computer user who is looking for LE5 and not knowing which one it is. Bug reports will get sent to all the wrong people and credit to the original theme would most probably NOT be given in any way shape or form. Does any of this make sense?

You could always read the original post here :p

I love how em3 and Capric0rn act like their work is so original. If Microsoft had said no "mods" of Luna, would you guys have respected that request? Oh; Actually they already have - it's called a copyright. I'm pretty sure anyone can freely edit and release any mods of this visual style they want and release them regardless of what you say - because it isn't hardly original. I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous. I know this sounds extremely harsh and I don't really mean to be an ###### - but I think that we should be able to work on Element collaboratively - especially if the original author is abandoning the project. It isn't an extremely original Visual Style. It is a Luna mod that has been worked on extensively and a beautiful theme - but it is extremely egotistical to act as if you have the ability to lock out the user base from customizing a theme in which you have stopped work on - but oh wait, only to open the editing to one artist who seems to have done little to the theme in the first place. If a mod is uploaded and noted as a mod of the original theme, with a link back to the original theme and the changes made noted, I don't see what the problem is rather than your ego being lowered by a more fully developed and superior mod. And that is exactly what you are afraid of happening.

Quoted for Truth.

thats exactly my point of view on the whole thing about mods.....

I regress. You make a very good argument. Yes, this skin is a Luna/Vista mod and yes, the whole "copyright" and "no-mod" thing obviously applied to the original styles from Microsoft. However, the original skinner still has to overall say as to what he wants done with the skin. Because it isn't an exact rip, he has every right to ask that others don't distribute mods. We could probably argue this for ten more pages and em3 still won't allow us to release mods :p

em3 is not abandoning anything :/ And if say that LE is not original then you say that other visual styles arent original either. They are all based on Luna. LE might look like Luna and might still have a few parts from Luna but every other single element in LE is originaly made from scratch. I'm not afraid if my ego is lowered. I'm just sick and tired off all the whining in every single page in this thread about mods, part that people dont like etc. If you guys wanted the black theme and now all of the sudden hate parts of it. You should have said so in the beginning. Then I wouldn't had finished this Black version and everyone would have probably been happy. Creat your own visual styles and see if you can build the perfect one, without the need of mods etc.

A reply to a few of the posts above.

First of all. This project is NOT abandoned. Just because I don't make updates all the time doesn't mean it's dead. I try create a 100% finished theme and do as little updates as possible. More development time means a theme that is well tested, have less bugs and overall good quality.

The only thing that is still original from Luna theme in LE5.x is the background toolbar image, and some of the "syscolors". Everything else I've created myself. Sure, some things are inspired by other themes but I've never ripped anything.

I really don't like discussing peoples opinions of mods. Feel free to do whatever you want for personal use, but if you release a mod you only hurt the community. You might not realize it but that's too bad. There are a limited number of people who create popular themes. It's up to you people if you want them to continue doing so. I stand by Bants point of view: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;p=587150257

Enough said please.

Creat your own visual styles and see if you can build the perfect one, without the need of mods etc.

For me and ~95% of the other Users LE Blue and LE Black are Perfect as they are. If anybody don't like the Themes as they are, they should build their own VS and don't hope that anybody release a Mod.

Some of the last Posts in this Thread are not fair against em3 and Capric0rn  , think about it.

@Elektro: I haven't done little to this theme. Dont know if you noticed all the updates etc that I made. And the 2 months that I worked on it. Dont know man.. since you already know it all, that must indeed be little.. heh. Stupid of me ey? To think that I've only worked 2 months on it etc and then think I did a lot of work on it.

Ugh. I hate to see this thread turn into a big fight. As em3 stated, the mod policy isn't changing. My opinion is that we all just forget about releasing mods and be thankful that the skin is freely available in the first place. Besides, we can always release modded parts of the skin can't we? Like modded start buttons or modded "colors".

The skin is an excellent one, it's completely free to everyone, and I for one am incredibly glad to be able to use it. There really isn't any need to fight over this issue, is there?

@Puner (Sorry, I'm just so used to referring to you by your dA name :p) I've had that happen to me with the LE5 skin. Have you tried refreshing your icon cache? It appears to have something to do with the actual highlight color or function.

A lot of themers don't allow mods of their themes. That's been going on since the beginning. If you don't like it, tough crap. Get over it. Nobody is forcing you to use the theme.

I'm surprised you've never just completely given up on this theme with the constant whining you must get em3. It would have driven me nuts long ago.
