I finally decided to move to 1.5x... main reason I havent yet is that I was simply too busy and the "Check for Updates" function never showed 1.5x... so I just assumed the code base was different enough to warrant a complete install, not an autoupdate... because of that, I kept telling myself Id download it and install it later, but never did...

I was wondering tho, should I backup my bookmarks, uninstall 1.0.7 and then install 1.5?... I know its always been recommended to uninstall previous versions... besides, Ive always had problems with new versions when I didnt uninstall the previous version... I was just wondering if thats still the case with the new builds

Also, anyone willing to let me know if the extensions I use are compatible with 1.5x?... Download Manager Tweak, Adblock, Titlebar Tweaks, NoScript and Tab Mix Plus

Just updated to 1.5.0.1

Adblock Plus v 0.6.0.4

NoScript v 1.1.3.9

Tab Mix Plus v 0.3

All working fine. :p

Don't know about your other extensions. When you do the 1.5.0.1 update FF becomes very polite and checks your extensions and themes and tells you which ones are not compatible. Quite nice after the upgrade problems everyone seemed to have going from 1.0.7 to 1.5.

I also run:

DownThemAll v 0.9.8.7

Linky v 2.7.1

Magpie v 3.2.4

FoxClocks v 1.2.60

Hope this helps!

alright, that answers my extensions question... now about the other question...

should I still uninstall 1.0.7 before installing 1.5x?... is uninstalling the old version then installing the new version still necessary?

when I tell Firefox to check for updates, it never shows 1.5x... so Im assuming autoupdate doesnt work because the code base is so different

I've always uninstalled to avoid problems. It's not that big of a deal really, and you don't have to back anything up as it keeps your profile and everything. Just uninstall 1.0.7 and then install 1.5 and you'll be good to go. And I think they changed the whole update process, so that's probably why it's not showing for you?

In the past I always installed on top of the previous version. But with 1.5 I actually back everything up and wiped clean old installs before installing 1.5.

Your choice. But back up everything before hand anyway. Also get actual downloads of all the extension .xpi files before wiping your previous install.

I used to install new versions over the last version I had installed but it would act as a brand new install instead of just an update... so Id have a new folder for each version, a new instance in Add/ Remove Programs, etc.

Like I said earlier, I assumed autoupdate didnt work because the codebase for 1.5x was so different compared to 1.0.7

Ill just download 1.5x later and uninstall 1.0.7 right before I install 1.5x... Ill just export my favorites, thats all I really need... I can download all of my extensions again after the new install
