Speeding up your system

Recommended Posts

Please hense this is only a find i thought member would find usful and yet i have not tested because i have a amd cpu.

Any way this program i found by intel for intel systems that will boost the performance of a user's system by optimizing the data between CPU and the HDD disc.

This is done by replacning windows drivers for the HDD and and replacing optimized ones for your motherboard. Overall speeding up various aspects of the system.

What do you need?

Intel CPU and Intel Chipset.

heres a list of supported chip sets.

First, your link is messed up. This is the link :

http://http//www.intel.com/support/chipsets/IAA/

Kept just redirecting to Microsoft.com till I actually looked at the link and removed the part I bolded there.

I went through all the steps, read everything, before trying it, made sure my chipset is compatible. Installed pretty easy, used steps in readme file to verify its installed right and working. My system was pretty well tweaked and maintained before installing it so was pretty fast already. Does seem to be a bit of a differance I guess, certain things do seem faster and smoother now.

And now for the question I probly should have asked before trying it. Is it actually recomended to use this, as it says this on the site.

End of Interactive Support Announcement

These products are no longer being manufactured by Intel. Additionally, Intel no longer provides interactive support for these products via telephone or e-mail, nor will Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with third party devices and software products.

Don't nVidia have a similar feature in their nForce chipset drivers? Nice find mate, just a couple years too late :).

They put these in the chipset drivers now so these are useless.

I'm not sure that's true. Intel has newer versions of the Application Acclerator, but now it is called Matrix Storage Manager or Matrix Storage Technology. It is required for various RAID configurations, but Intel also recomends it for single HDD systems to boost performance, just like the Application Acclerator. Maybe someone who understands this stuff better than me can check it out and tell us all who might want to try this out and who shouldn't bother. I'm wondering if I should install it.

FYI, if you want to install the newer version of this utility/driver, which is called Intel Matrix Storage Manager, you have to enable certain options in your BIOS before/during Windows installation. I just figured that out after wasting a bunch of time reading the support pages on Intel's website, which makes it sound like all you have to do is run the .exe installer and reboot.

Here's a guide to enabling the BIOS functions after Windows is already installed, but it sounds too risky for me. I'll just have to wait until I do a clean install:

how can i know,if my hardware is compatible?

I downloaded that to see if I what my chipset was and I got this.

Chipset

Detected Chipset:

Chipset Components

Memory Controller: Failed to identify your chipset

I/O Controller: Failed to identify your ICH

Don't worry, got it through Device Manager anyway.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
    • you can also do this with this tool: PowerSettingsExplorer made by mbk1969 at 3dguru forum.. I found it by accident researching on modern standby and annoying quirks of it in 2022
