Latest Japanese Hardware Sales

Looks like things are up a bit. Mostly for the Wii. But it's good to see the 360 go up a bit more. If MS can stay up around the 5-10k a week number they'll grow at a good rate for Japan imo. The closer they come to selling 1million units in Japan, the more 3rd party jap devs will support it.

Man, I just got back from bic camera, a Japanese version of best buy.

I went to the one near Tokyo station. It is probably the biggest electronics store in Japan.

The game consoles were in basement one, so I went down the escalator and was greeted by a HUGE display of PS3s.

Wiis were displayed on the side.

I couldn't see the 360, so I went looking around.

To my astonishment, 360s were displayed on the narrow passageway to the toilet.

I swear, MS has monkeys running the marketing in Japan.

Hardly, They have all those PS3 sitting in stock that they "really" need to sell. So what do you do if you run the store? You can't have those ps3s you paid for sitting there collecting dust right?

Now i'm sure MS can do a better job of getting stores to show the 360, but in the end it's up to the store manager.

Some new games are probably out I bet. I don't fallow the DS/PSP side of things. It's looking like the 360 is sticking around the 8k a week number, which isn't great but better than 2k a week like before. Maybe it'll slowly go up into 10k and higher with more Japanese targeted games.

Numbers finally updated:

December 24 - 30

DSL - 218,876

PSP - 161,370

Wii - 152,209

PS3 - 52,706

PS2 - 25,569

Xbox360 - 8,304

GC - 67

GBASP - 61

GBM - 58

DS - 18

GBA - 17

Wow, those numbers felt like forever hehe.

Bloody hell, check them out though! Everyone's doing well!

MS still sticking up around 8k a week. Not great, but good for Japan imo. With a better marketing push and more games maybe they'll break into 10K+ a week and stay there. Maybe another price cut will do it.

Doesnt Japan already pay LESS then then any other country for xbox360?

Too bad they can't get over that 10,000 mark huh...

and about time PS3 beats it's older, lesser brother, PS2. Sad to see the successor taking so long to beat out PS2

iirc Japan pays like, if you work out the conversion rates, maybe around $380? Or is it down around $360? Either way, the dollar/Yen rate is always changing, so it probably costs MORE now since the dollar has fallen more vs the Yen last I saw.

I still think 8k a week is good, you have to remember the original Xbox was pretty much stuck doing 1-2k a week forever. If the 360 can get a few more big name games out and up sales over 10k a week, that's enough imo. It's true it's not great like 30-50k a week, but for the outsider/underdog. 10k+ is like a magic mark.

    • I bought this game. Played it for an hour, and then got a refund from Steam. Not a fun game at all.

    • Forza Horizon 6 gets another hotfix for one of the game's online modes by Taras Buria Recently, Forza Horizon 6 players discovered an interesting glitch that allowed farming a crazy amount of in-game credits in a few minutes. Playground Games quickly pulled the plug on the exploit by disabling one of the game's online modes, and today, the studio is rolling out another hotfix. In my review, I complained about the game still showering gamers with cars, credits, and wheelspins. As such, earning money in Forza Horizon 6 is not a particularly difficult task. You simply have to play the game, crazy, I know. However, people still found an easier path to becoming a billionaire in Forza Horizon 6. All you had to do was purchase the Hummer EV, install a specific tune, shift in reverse while going at about 15 MPH, hit a wall, and get launched into the stratosphere at the speed of light. While mid-air, launch Eliminator and quickly get eliminated. Boom, the game just awarded you with a few million in-game credits. Initially, Playground Games disabled Eliminator to prevent people from farming credits. Now, following the release of the first balancing update, developers are rolling out a new update that re-enables Eliminator and gives users a free McLaren Sabre as a gesture of goodwill. Here is the changelog: One critical issue remains unpatched, though. There are quite a few reports of the game wiping gamers' saves, and developers are still looking into that. To avoid potential data loss, Playground Games recommends taking one of the steps outlined in a previously published support article.
