Annoying Issue on Boot with Nvidia 6200 AGP

Recommended Posts

Right, im not entirely sure what this should go under however i am starting to get a little P*ssed off with my pc lol anyway to cut a long story short

I purchased a Nvidia Gforce 6 - 6200 256MB DDR AGP8X VGA + DVI-I + TV-Out graphics card (64 bit dual ramdac's 400mhz, Microsoft Dirext x 9.0 Support card) I also purchased x2 512MB DDR PC2700 Ram this was to replace my old hardware (x2 256mb ram) and Ati Radeon 9000 64mb graphics card

i managed to install the card and ram fine however xp wasnt shutting down i shut down and it says windows is shutting down... i thought oh well ill leave it overnight and it will be shut down but by time i awoke it still said windows is shutting down... so i pressed off button on front of pc.. to restart i then tried to shut it down several times and the problem still happened.. so i looked on Windows XP Support site.. and no luck so i contact PNY Technologies (the people who manufacture the graphics card) they suggest its a drivers issue and issue with xp and best bet is to format (formatting seems to be the fix for every problem now adays with tech support lines) anyway... so i format do a free install of windows, completly update windows, get latest nvidia drivers from nvidia website.. install all my standard driver updates i have backed up ... and shut down ... smile.gif pc shuts down and then gets to a black screen after Windows XP logo on boot... after about 30 seconds im thinking oh crap windows xp has died.. like it does.. so i thought okay ill wait a few minutes see what happens... after about 2 minutes.. windows loads.. so i doa disc defrag and a check disc to see if there are issues with windows... then reboot black screen holds once again after xp logo for about 3 minutes again and windows xp loads.. so i think hmm okay ill google it so i look on google... no luck so i decide to contact PNY technologies again get an email back and they suggest updating my latest drivers on my Bios/motherboard so i update to latest drivers from medion.com (as they are my pc manufacture and also latest bios flash aviailable is there...) so i reboot and hey guess whay black/blank screen again :s so i contact PNY once again they suggest to contact medion and ask for assistance as its probably the mobo so ive emailed medion and now waiting for a reply.. i wanna smash my pc with a hammer lol so i thought hey i will ask if anyone can help me on a few technology/torrent/hardware forums smile.gif as someone may know something

i think my motherboard is as follows

Medion MD-5000

I am running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition

Pentium 4

2.66ghz Processor

on a small sticker on the motherboard it says PhoenixBios D686 106004612

and by pressing delete on startup going into bios config it says Phoenix Award Workstation Bios CMOS

the PC is a Medion Cybermaxx PCMT6

i have unplugged and plugged both the ram and the card back in just incase they wasnt in correctly

 Sorry that you are having such problems. My only guess that may fix the problem is to flash update your BIOS chip.

It seems to be a Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) problem.

some people suggested for me to reformat again which im going to do

i found more information about my motherboard the motherboard itself is a Micro-star MS-6701... apparently its modified by medion itself i looked on Microstar website and havent found it... however i emailed there customer support and ill see what they say.. right im off to reformat windows :) thanks guys thought i post the motherboard type as it may help somesome with a solution.. PC World the place i purchased it from suggest its a faulty graphics card and for me to return it so im going to try a format if that dont help i will most likely take it back
