first of all.. should I forward it manually if I'm going for UPnP?

I have the same router. Personally, I wouldn't rely on UPnP to solve your uTorrent problems. You need to set up a static IP so that you can correctly forward the uTorrent port (default: 32459) to your computer. Open up the Speed Guide, run the test, and then it will bring up a webpage telling you that your connection is setup correctly for BT. If it doesn't follow the directions given to you at www.portforward.com.

UPnP is nice, but it won't solve all of your problems. Best to fix it at the source.

I use uTorrent, and UPNP with no issues.

When you say that the service is enabled, do you have an extra entry in 'Network connections' that points to your internet connection, along with your network card? (red box in my screenshot), note that the connected NIC is the one I highlighted in blue

When clicked this should give you a status window (see my screenshot).

If this isnt present, then UPNP discovery hasnt occured, and ports cannot be opened on your router, check for any later firmware versions that may fix this.

My router is a Linksys wrt54g, running DD-WRT v23 SP1 (beta), the original linksys firmware didnt efficiently open/close ports for me, so I would end up with errors.

Also, do you run a software firewall?? If you do, it might be worth checking the settings on it. Here, I run Kerio PF, and had to allow all traffic within my LAN. I still have full control over application/port blocking, but internal traffic isnt hindered unless I specify to block anything.
