Can't Uninstall in OSX

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new to OSX, but not a complete moron. I can't figure out how to get rid of Net Barrier X4. I already deleted the program file itself from the Applications directory, but there is still a menu item up near the clock. I've tried restarting, I've tried going into the Activity Monitor to see if I can find the running process but I can't seem to find antyhing that seems to obviously it. Thank you for any help all might OSX helpers :)

Go to system preferences then users and check in "Login Items"

Hi, I'm a V. n00B with OSX so be gentle  OK....I read the post about uninstalling. If I just delete all files RE any prog will this work. Or is it the same as with Windows? Namely, If I just delete stuff my Mac will just get lost .dll files etc and get lost in the wilderness? Someone Please Help!

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

i wish os x had an uninstaller like windoze

God. I don't. I like the simple approach to apps that OSX has. Having an Uninstaller like in Windows would be a nightmare. If it worked like the one in Windows does. It would probably leave crap all over your HD.

God. I do.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to track down startup items items and things that pop themselves up into the Finder's menu bar. Things like Norton AV are a bitch to remove manually. The problem is that once these things are installed, they are not aware of the status of the parent application. Once the application is removed, things start breaking and there's always a whole lot of garbage that gets left behind.

Case in point: a machine I manage at work has "Now Up to Date" and "Now Contact" installed. Both of which install icons into the menu bar. The parent applications have since been "uninstalled" and now clicking on either icons crashes Finder. A Spotlight search turns up nothing.

Yay for OS X.

Because Spotlight doesn't index System folders and such, would you like searches pop-ing up .kext's and cache files?

Those would be either Menu Extras, or App's that are auto-loading on login.

u have to command f to find all the files spotlight does not

so command f to erase

bad thing is moldy preference files don't really matter/take up much space

i'd worry about the unix executables that run in the background and are called 'asdflkj48u29098'

finding those may be hard but they are usually in their own folder

Here's an uninstaller that is supposed to be quite good...and it'll be free if people just keep blogging it

http://maczot.com/

(Y) So everyone go blog it and then post your link on there site...each blog post brings it down $0.05

This is free right now I just got it and its actually pretty cool.
