I bought this on PC the day it came out (March 23rd...little Australia) and found it to be everything i wanted it to be. One thing: I was in awe about how low i had to have the settings!! I'm running a 6800ULtra, and I was shocked at how low i had to have everything!!

So, my personal verdict: If you've got the money for a decent system (Preferably SLI, if you're running a 6800 Ultra or lower and with 1gb+ ram) Go for the PC edition. Load times are shorter, mods are free, plus its all tweakable. But if not, go for the Xbox and upgrade to HDTV when it comes out.

However most of these arguments mention that it's much better in a comfy chair with a HDTV but how much does one of these high end TVs cost? about 2,500. then there's the cost of a good comfy chair compaired to a resonably comfy PC\desk chair.

end of the day Maxed out system PC (price not an isssue) is better gfx, according to reports i'm not lucky enough to have both. however for comfort and ease of play (price, again not included) console wins out.

the arguments are kind of pointless because they're all comming from people who have one or the other, and lets face it are probably biased either way and dont have the luxury of owning both at a maxed out level.

If you're looking for which to buy for, you have a PC and an xbox I would suggest unless you have a tripped-out PC then go for the xbox version. If you have a high end PC then you'll know the answer to the question already, if you have an awesome xbox setup you will too as you won't have spent all that money on either setup just to buy one of the most technically impressive games of the year to play on a different system.

Cost really is irrelevant here considering that what you view the game on can really sway the price one way or the other whether it be a massive HDTV or some nifty widescreen LCD monitor. Then you have the $400 Xbox 360 versus a $400 GPU...it all pretty much even outs and it totally dependant upon the setup you already have.

Two words: VGA adapter. 360 graphics for cheap.

Luna, I have an x800 pro modded to x800xtpe and it looks pretty nice.

heres a not so good screen shot. I was just benchmarking at the time so it's pretty bland but it does the job. I was testing a terrain texture mod out so I was trying to get a shot with some distant grass ect, thus why I'm on a hill. Im running at 30 - 40 fps outdoors and about 50+ in dungeons. It runs faster if i lower the grass density or disable shadows on grass but I feel the 5 or so FPS hit is worth it for the depth it ads to the scenery.

3400+ x64 amd, 1 gig of ram are the other main specs

Wow, that makes me even more glad I chose the 360 version :)

I just thought of something. Isn't it possible for PC gamers to purchase an Xbox 360 controller, plug it into their PC's and enjoy a more comfortable gaming environment that way instead of going out and buying an Xbox 360 altogether?

Yes. :)

Elder Scrolls is famous for all the user created content, the xbox version doesnt get this - and such the PC version is far better than the xbox 360 version.

Wow, that makes me even more glad I chose the 360 version :)

well yeah it's not the greatest as I have quite alot turned down but it's the price I'm paying for running it at 1280 x 1024 instead os 1024x 768 like many.

Besides I'm too poor to get a HD tv + Xbox nor do I have the room for one anyway. Besides it's a 2 year old card now so I wouldnt expect anything absolutly miond blowing from it compared to a 6month old Xbox.

average person yes. Nah I was interested because I have an X800 and I play with most of the draw sliders apart from grass and trees set half way down. I just wanted to compare performance so I assumed you must be using a lower res than me which you are (1280 x 1024). Was just for my own interest sakes.

I too play with 1280x (X800XL) but I have turned grass, shadows and useless stuff like this down/off. it runs ok but could be better.

sometimes 20fps

Mostly 30-50

I have grass down, last turn was 130 but Ive set its density to 150 (havent actually run the game since). I have tree, player and grass shadows enabled. Theg rass one is a pperformance pig but I feel it adds depth to the environment so I'd rather less grass and shadows than more grass and shadows. I sometimes dip to 20's for fps but thats outdoors and when it happens it rarely matters as long as its not constantly going on since outdoors are pretty slow paced. typically about 35fps here (again before I reduced grass).

Thats using the LOD and Normal map mods too and a few other tweaks.

Because i dont have both...

anyway, using my dual monitors, one a 17" for the PC, a 19" Widescreen for the XBox 360, all i can say is, that the FPS is way higher on the games i have for the pc than the xbox 360.

Quake 4 on the 360 lags, and doesnt have the same gleam as the PC version. COD2 again, the PC whips its ass allover the place, allthough the 360 version i think must run at 45+ fps.

The only place where the 360 is truely amazing is in loading times. it is nearly 2x faster than the pc, mainly because of the multi threaded bonus, but still, its good how the console is a lot faster at loading games in most situations.

NFS:MW, is the exception to the rule, with it loading a lot faster on the pc, quicker race restarts and better graphics, textures, and the ability to turn motion blur off.

So really its up to u, but the whole price bull**** is irrelivant because as you are browsing this forum, u wouldnt b able to do it without a computer. u cant check email, surf, plus there is 10x more flexibility with a computer so dont start with the whole the 360 is better value for money shananigans.

^^^^ yeah I also mentioned...

these threads seem to be more of a "look at what setup I have" competition

lol

nice comments, i'd assume the FPS would be one of the deciding factor in the Vs choice I didn't realise that the 360 suffers from it too, although probably not to the same level . Lucky SOB with both systems.

cheers, but yeah the 360 really does get affected by some serious FPS Drops in some games. The new G.R.A.W looks stunning but suffers some really bad < 30 fps action in a lot of the maps.

I really expect this to change when the developers get to grips with the console, but at the end of the day, the gfx is more the equivilant of a 7800GTX / 7900GTX and wont be able to deliver what they expected.

Once multithreaded games come to the PC hold on to your hat because the loading times will be no existant, like the x360's, thats the only thing that thrases the PC into the floor, the loading times.

I went with the Xbox 360 version :D and it wasn't that expensive, Xbox 360 games RRP is around AUSD$119.95 and I got the collectors edition for AUSD$109.95 (normal version been AUSD$99.95) so (here anyway) it's around Xbox 1 game price (or a bit more if you want the cool extras ;))

EDIT: I wouldn't say Oblivion runs smooth on the 360, on the smaller areas it is very smooth, but when your out in the large areas there is a noticable frame drops here and there..but overall it runs very well on the 360 :)

You see as a console owner I would find that unacceptable. The whole point of having a game on a console rather than PC is that you know it's going to run it properly.

If all they've done is added some good GFX for the sake of making the console look like it can keep up with the PC version then it's another reason for me to not buy that console and frankly i would rather be a console owner knowing that my console can't quite keep up with the PC gfx but at least performs well rather than owning a console that's trying to keep up with upgradeable Pc hardware just at the cost of enjoying a game as it's meant to be played.

If i want low FPS then i'll ramp gfx up on my PC, i don't expect that from a console.

Sounds to me like they've sacraficed gameplay for GFX, which as I say on a console is not acceptable IMO.

exactly why i was reffering to someone elses comments and using such words as "If" and "would" and "sounds like" I was basing my comment on what someone else said and providing my opinion based on that. At no point in my post did i mention that the 360 version is choppy, that was someone (who apparently has played the game) elses observation

I was hoping for a reply close to yours but without the attitude.

Well that's the thing. You shouldn't base your comments if you haven't played the game yourself. Plenty other 360 users are perfectly fine with Oblivion and you automatically say that Bethseda "sacraficed gameplay for GFX". The numerous reviews on the web and many 360 owners even on this forum could correct you and say that gameplay is "acceptable".

No attitude meant. It's hard to convey tone with text. ;)
