30" Cinema Display Vs. Enraged Signifigant Other

Recommended Posts

The display has been replaced (arrived yesterday). I didn't really like the Travelmate anyway so I replaced i with a MacBook Pro.

I hope the cost of the display didn't come out of your own pocket. I can never forgive people who have damaged my property.

I hope he never had to pay for the replacement as well, never mind all the other stuff.

It breaks my heart to see that happen :p

I paid for it myself. The alternative was my old pinkish-hue 15" panel and since I use this for free-lance work I couldn't use it for long.

Besides... you know how painful it is to go from that glorious display to anything less? Almost as painful as shelling out the cost for it twice!

The Story..

(This was posted earlier as a reply but I keep getting requests for it so it must not have been obvious)

It's a simple case of lack of communication *and* being tested.

The lesson I learned is this:

Never, ever do a 3-way even if you're convinced it's ok and a good idea. And if you do, act like you didn't like it and couldn't care less. And failing those two things and you're tossed out of your own house don't go outside for 5 minutes to let them cool down - TAKE YOUR GEAR WITH YOU. 5 minutes is enough time to take out the display, a brand new Travelmate 8204 and a Cingular 8125 phone.

As for the relationship, eeehhh... We'll see.

Good question..... and NO! It did not. It was specified that it did but I could only get the non-dual-link dvi resolution out of it. And worse, the DVI connector on the Travelmate had a plastic ridge that made connecting the ACD DVI connector very, very difficult (I had to shave a small piece out of the ridge to even get it to slightly fit (part of the problem? Not sure). I did note with some irony that the DVI plug on the new display is smaller and fits just fine but since the laptop is destroyed I can't test it.

I am very, very happy with the MacBook Pro, however. Another major flaw about the Travelmate I didn't like was that the CPU fan exited out the right-hand side of the laptop and would parbroil your hand if you used an external mouse for any length of time (if you are right-handed). The only reason I got the Travelmate was I needed at least one Windows compat machine, and with recent developments I now have both in one laptop. It would *killed* me to have lost the ADC and the Macbook at the same time

Slightly off topic, but I'm curious: did the Travelmate 8204 have dual-link DVI to support the 30"?

so let me get this straight.. you had a threesome? and your gf found out- you blagged to your gf that it was good. and then she got really really pi$$ed of with you and became a racoon (i.e. trashed your stuff) ?

unless the threeway was with her, you got was was coming.. :/

Of course it was with her :-)

I'm not *that* stupid ;-)

Yeah, so if she went along with this...then what the hell!?

Was it with another man or woman?

If a guy enjoys a 3 way, of course he'll pay. After all, it's making that a statement that he enjoys the 3 way more than one-on-one intimacy :p Are you sure it was just that though :s At worst she should only get in a long fight about it... not trash your stuff.

I will wholeheartedly agree with 2 and 3. Can't do anything about #4 at this point.

Still mulling over #1. It was *almost* worth it :)

What an interesting thread.

Reminds us all to:

1) Not have threesomes.

2) Don't buy travelmate laptops

3) 30" Displays are good when they aren't destroyed

4) Be glad it wasn't us

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics.
