CS:S - I am crap

Recommended Posts

I lay my hands down and admit that I am seriously crap and Counter Strike: Source, and that I desperately need help to get the hang of it and to actually be able to kill people. So, what do people have to offer me in terms of tips, considering at my stage actually killing someone is a breakthrough?

The key is to know the maps, their little crevices, etc so try running through them a little on your own, see where they go and where the objectives are.

Key is to watch how other play them... a good tip is to die and enter fisrt person of someone at teh top of the score chart and watch how they play.

It will take a few weeks to get used to but eventually you will find you inner and dare I say it "1337n3ss"

Clan servers are also a good place to play as you will learn alot more from these players then you will from the average public server. Plus they may help you out a little. ;)

All that does is buy you things when you press F1...it doesn't make you a good shooter :p

To use it though, go to options > keyboard > advanced options > enable console (or something along those lines).

Then press ` or ~ or whatever is assigned to it and a window will come up. Copy that bind line in there and then when you press F1 at the start of a round it'll buy you a vest, helmet, primary ammo, secondary ammo, defuser, HE grenade and flashbang

Counter-Strike: Source is all about common sense really, use it, and you will do well. A few random tips:

-Don't be the ass that runs out in front of everyone, unless you know what you are doing, you won't pull it off. Let the experienced guys take care of the business, and watch how they do, you will learn something.

-Get out of spawn as soon as possible, a few seconds could mean that you have lost the round. On maps like De_Dust 2, delays at spawn could get you killed within a matter of seconds.

-Try every weapon, and see which ones you are good with. Unless your enemy is right in front of you, spraying is bad. Once you find out which weapons you like, start using binds.

My configuration looks like this:

bind "F1" "buy famas; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F2" "buy m4a1; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F3" "buy ak47; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F4" "buy sg552; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F5" "buy m3; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F6" "buy scout; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"
bind "F7" "buy awp; buy primammo; buy vesthelm; buy deagle; buy secammo; buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade; buy defuser"

F10 is unbound, so all of those noobs saying press F10 for <Insert something desirable here> are just making asses of themselves.

;)

Practice practice practice.

most people on CSS have been playing it for years and as such it's not going to be easy to get into the flow on a majority of servers. Take your time, as others have said, learn the maps as that is vital to a good game.

try finding a noobie server.

don't buy anything, this works at introduction level really well as there are alot of guns to choose from and everyone else know's what's good, hold back a bit and pickup guns that drop from others. It builds your cash up and will get you more accustomed to the standard issue weapons. It also means you wont be let at the start area pressing 3....1....2 etc and end up without a clue where everyone went. Some people look down on this but believe me they'll look down on you running out in the crossfire with a knife alot more.

The most important thing is HAVE FUN. alot of experienced players forget that.

Don't worry, I suck monkyballz at CS:S, although I'm fairly good at UT. The REAL key to any success, is taking pride in every kill you do. I go down like 1 kill / 15killed ratio (15x I'm getting killed), but every time I lay someone down I go like "Who's the noob now, biatch".

I find CS:S very easy, but then again, I have been playing CS since early 2002. My tips are just to practice and don't spray your guns ;)

I've found it to be a joke in terms of difficulty and gave it up completely. But it was damn addictive timewaster while it lasted.

I played in this server where there was this stupid map called iceworld. God, I just sat below the stairs, pointed, and shot. That was a wakeup call for me to go do something more physical such as play sports.

For tips: Try to guess where the enemy is, if you know they are around, try to last. Follow your teammates but not too closely, mantain a distance. And crouch, use flashbangs around corners. Watch out for dark spots such as the tunnel barrel spot in de_port.

CS:S is a very strange game, i have been playing since it was released with HL2, (over a year) and i'd still do incredable awful at times.

One tip is to work with your teammates, i know that can be hard sometimes if you get a bad team.

Also take your time aiming, and fire your shots slowly, if its not working retreat.

Iam guessing your a beginner so try consentrating on staying alive while still getting in on the action

O and bring your senstiveity down low

I play CS:S for 5 months now and it's like other mentioned before: one day you can own everybodies ass big time but the other day you're acting like a total n00b.

Yesterday I played 1 game (15 minutes or so) and score was 5 and killed was 12

The day before I played 1 game and score was 14 and killed was 4

Go figure....

In my experience a good computer helps. Im currently using an old computer (by todays standards) and got an awful fps, which in turn effects how you kill. However one asset i always use is sound. With my headphones on I always use footsteps to my advantage in combination with the radar. Its tense as when you hear footsteps you just walk or hide and then take them out. Its a great realistic tactic i love.

Your never going to beat everybody and its luck of the draw with servers. You could get owned by everyone on one server one day and be top of the list the next. Its just a bit of fun.

ive been playing CS since 1.3 and CSS since its beta days, but i hardly ever play anymore, but when i go for a weekend of playing, im really good at first, then the more i play the worse i get! its really odd, just my Steam is sucking ass at the moment and its really hard to join a server for some UNKNOWN reason, but yeah, imo its pretty much down to luck and team mates when you play.

I'm pretty new, 6 months CS player, my best KD ratio was i think 18 kills 7 deaths. Lately my ratio is 1:1. All i can say is, learn to spray good, and or crouch and jsut do three round bursts chest upwards, or head if you think you're accurate. Otherwise, practice, practice, practice. But don't be like me and take CS for real life, meaning don't go walking around pretending you're holding an M4A1 and you're walking towards a room which is filled with Terrorists therefore you need to smoke and flash and rush in and headshot everyone. :$ I do that sometimes, my friends just call me obsessive.

Like someone said learn the maps. You will be imensly hindred if you cant navigate them or know the common route enemies will take when doing a rush. Also you need to know the most common hiding spots of your foes and be able to adapt for the fact people camp in different spots, especially when your a CT and you have to defuse a bomb and you know T's are still around. Unless you can get the m or keep an eye open going for the bomb is pointless unless you also have team mates sweeping the area as you do it.

Flashes are great but use them with caution. Theres nothing worse than being killed by a team mate who carelessly flashes you (or blocks).

Also work as a team. Even if what the yare doing doesnt fit in your normal play style. If the entire team rushes then you may as well be rushing. I mean if the rush fails and you are the last one left behind then you have to take on the entire other team anyway. On the reverse if you rush and your team is holding back you will very likely be anihilated (although sometimes I will sacrifice myself with a flash and RP90 if my team is struggling consistantly to get into position, a flash and some spreying can often buy them time...not a great tactic but an effective one and it can be done with the flash alone if you wana try and not die...depends on the map)

Dont crouch to much, it improves your aim but the lack of mobility is usually worse. If you stand still you are just as fast and can get away faster. Especially at close range if the enemy is aiming at your chest and you duck your head is now where their gun was pointing. That said dont never crouch, just do it whan appropriate.

Guns I recoment are the M4, Deagle, AK and defender, pump shotgun, a sniper rifle (scout or awp although awp has a hower learning curve) and lastly the RP90 (or whatever). they are good basic guns and will do well in varying circumstances. Always buy armour where possible including a helmet and as a CT you should probably get a defusal kit when you have the money to spend unless you are absolutly confident you wont need it or will get one of a dead teammate.

To me, it's mostly about determination and practice. Well, the determination part is kinda bull****, but it's really if you want the kill. I remember on my old pc, I could only get a maximum of 20 fps. And guess what: I still ended up semi-owning. Practice with every weapon. Practice with every route. PRACTICE, BITCH, PRACTICE!!! [Not to be offensive]

    • You make it sound like Microsoft’s success was inevitable—like they just coasted to the top because the system is broken. But that ignores how deep in the gutter Microsoft was. A bit more than a decade ago, Microsoft was a bloated, boring giant—universally hated by developer communities and seen as yesterday’s villain. It was well on its way to becoming the next IBM: slow, corporate, irrelevant. The company had a horrible public image, a toxic internal culture, and leadership plagued by stagnation. It was losing the browser war, failing at mobile, and completely missing the open-source wave—pouring good money after bad into battles it had already lost, playing an impossible catch-up game. Even tech enthusiasts openly wished for its demise. Microsoft’s comeback was nothing short of a miracle. Most companies that size, once caught in that kind of death spiral, never climb back out. But Microsoft reinvented itself—against all odds.
    • Samsung's profit nosedives again as chip division bleeds cash by Paul Hill Samsung has shared its second quarter financials for 2025. Unfortunately for the company, its operating profit plummeted to KRW 4.7 trillion, a sharp decline from KRW 10.4 trillion in 2Q24 and KRW 6.7 trillion in 1Q25. The Korean smartphone giant also recorded a significant drop of net profit to KRW 5.1 trillion in the second quarter, down from KRW 9.8 trillion in 2024 and KRW 8.2 trillion in the first quarter. Finally, overall revenue for the second quarter was KRW 74.5 trillion, a decrease from KRW 79.1 trillion in the first quarter. These figures are based on the consolidated financial statements that have been shared before the external review is completed, so some parts could change once it’s done. The worsening of performance doesn’t seem to be a Samsung issue, but rather a wider industry issue as Intel and LG Electronics have also seen poorer results in the second quarter. The Device Solutions (DS) division, which includes Memory and System LSI/Foundry, saw a big fall in operating profits to KRW 0.4 trillion in 2Q25 from KRW 6.5 trillion in 2Q24 and KRW 1.1 trillion in 1Q25. Despite an 11% increase in sales quarter-over-quarter for the Device Solutions division, profits were severely affected by one-off costs such as inventory value adjustments. The company said that its Foundry earnings were weak due to inventory value adjustments arising from US export restrictions on advanced AI chips to China and prolonged low utilization at mature nodes. Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX/NW) division maintained double-digit profitability and grew both its revenue and operating profit year-over-year. The Samsung Display Corporation (SDC) saw revenue increase from new smartphone models and growth in IT/Auto segments, and Harman also improved profitability with increased audio sales and cost optimizations. On the flipside, smartphone shipments fell compared to the first quarter when new models were released. However, good sales of the S25 series, A series, and tablets contributed to year-over-year growth. The Visual Display (VD) division saw earnings decline due to intensified competition despite improved premium sales mix. Going forward, Samsung wants to focus on improving Exynos competitiveness for its 2026 flagship lineup and expand sales of advanced sensors. It also said that its Foundry business will ramp up mass production of a new mobile System-on-Chip (SoC) with the GAA 2nm processor and improve factory utilization. The Mobile eXperience division is also looking to achieve solid profitability by reinforcing AI In tablets and wearables. It’s also planning to launch new form-factor products like XR and TriFold. With US trade tariffs not expected to go anywhere in the near future, Samsung has acknowledged that its Harman and Visual Display/Digital Appliances divisions will be under added pressure but plans to mitigate the impact through its global manufacturing footprint.
