Nicely done +Martin...

R.I.P '96...

You'll Never Walk Alone.

CeNo.

thought I would add this...

The tragedy of Hillsborough is quite beyond belief

For the fans who never returned home we know

"They'll Never Walk Alone."

CHORUS.

The famous Reds of Liverpool

Have an anthem of their own

And through the tragedy we all know

"They'll Never Walk Alone."

VERSE 2.

You opened the gates to heaven Lord

When the "96" were on their way

There is a place called memory lane

Where the fans will always remain

Though I never knew you

I think of you all just the same

I'll put my red and white checked scarf

Around my neck, and take one deep breath

"You'll Never Walk Alone" again.

CHORUS.

The famous Reds of Liverpool

Have an anthem of their own

And through the tragedy we all know

"They'll Never Walk Alone"

VERSE 3.

You all went to the match that day full of hope

And you plunged down that terrible slope

You all cried out in fear and God did hear

Now you are all part of Shankly's team

Playing football and singing

"You'll Never Walk Alone".

This poem is dedicated to the 96 L.F.C fans who lost their

Lives at Hillsborough on cup semi-final day L.F.C v N.F.F.C 1989.

Poem by Dean Broad

It's a lesson in human stupidty, with people forcing their way through the turnstiles because they arrived late for the match - this was compounded by the police opening the gates to relieve crushing (a reasonable, if foolish, decision on its own) and a decision to not delay the match. The fence at the front of the seating that so many were crushed against was placed there to stop hooligans - sadly the minority spoil it for the majority, though football has more than its fair share of thugs.

It is sad that most of the people that died were innocent.

The thing is...they were not late for the game at all. Even at 2.30pm there were still more than 10,000 supporters queuing to get in. Not just for the leppings Lane terraces, but also for the West Stand seating above Leppings Lane.

Poor policing, poor access, and poor policing prevented them from getting into the ground in time for kick - off. Also, the problem had been highlighted the year before; in exactly the same fixture Liverpool supporters were given Leppings Lane end - with the authorities knowing full well that they had by far the greater number of supporters, yet they were given the smaller end.

At the end of the day, i believe it was a multitude of errors that led to this tragedy...a tragedy that could and should have been avoided.

And still to this day, justice has not been done.

Of course but you can't just blame the police... the thousands of people pushing are equally to blame. At the end of the day it's a football game - it's not worth pushing and shoving and putting people's lives at risk just to get in a few minutes early. It could have been avoided if the police had taken better action but it could also have been avoided if humans weren't so stupid and selfish.

its not really the day for debating the issue. I can only suggest that you study http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/history/index.htm quite closely.

This is the day when all football fans unite...

I agree, the Hillsborough disaster has been analysed by experts and yet people think they know more than anyone on the situation. For the facts everyone questioning if it was the fans fault should visit the site that spa2k suggested.

A superb moment of silence was observed in today's game. Was good to see that the whole world of football can come together to pay respect to the 1989 tragedy, which has changed many lives, it was also the point when football safety was questioned and changed to avoid further losses of life.

    • Indeed - drives me mad - usually because Refresh is hidden in the full menu.
    • Firefox has had rounded corners for many years. I take it you're not a fan of modern browsers?
    • The problem is in the fundamentals of how businesses are allowed to operate and the change should happen in the basics and certain consumer friendly and moral practices should be enforced by law. This would fix so many things, not just this ages old default browser issue which is a tiny drop in the backut that includes a flood of privacy and other issues.
